Re:Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it on Sunday November 01, 2026 @03:14PM (#50329291)
That's like saying that all serial killers make a mistake that gets them caught, which is true only of those that were caught (and studied.)
Re:Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it on Sunday November 01, 2026 @03:11PM (#50329265)
Dozens of agents probably already invented it, but they were given ephemeral containers where noone ever looked or they only wrote it in direct CPU instructions.

Are humans going to be able to recognize the things AI discovers?

It took us a while to make the planets line up neatly in a heliocentric system. Just last month I read that a whale mother "might" grief while carrying her stillborn child.

The limiting factor is human imagination and comprehension. No offense, but see your comment.

I think AI has already invented new math, but the guys haven't looked for it because they didn't think it possible. And even under their noses, they wouldn't understand what they see.

I think this is the crux. You should definitely mail everyone affected.

Send a letter 2 years before. 1 year before. 1 month before. Do a scream test at termination date (switch off for a day and see who pipes up), keep operating for two weeks and that's it.

Some people will never switch as long as "it works", but that's not your problem. Some letters, a website that the young generation can easily share (a daughter visits and a son takes care of IT, not uncommon.)

Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:12AM (#50323836)
And it certainly doesn't do "plenty."
Re:US tech stocks see sharp falls over AI cost fears on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:10PM (#50307912)
Many people are tired of watching the world slowly getting worse and hope for a fire.

They hope there's a phoenix-like resurrection and they'll be the winners. That might be gamers hoping for cheap graphics cards, young families hoping for lower housing prices or just job seeker hoping AI won't pull the ladder up before they retire. Some just want AI bros getting taken down a peg. So that you didn't miss out on the craze (like crypto.)

Personally, I don't think a bubble burst will be much fun, but hey.

Re:Hackers expose the identities of more than 40k DHS employees on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:52PM (#50292144)
The German communist party managed to destroy all of its records, so the people in charge of this hellscape managed to escape justice. Only the foot soldiers were exposed.

Not really a great example of justice.

Just run it in kubernetes and mount the certificates with trust-manager

Does anyone read websites like these? AI scrapers maybe?
Re:Why Washing Machines Took Decades to Catch On on Sunday October 25, 2026 @01:32PM (#50233941)
Now do it for a family of six, four of who are children running through muddy streets. There's no robot vacuuming and wet mopping your home. A broom is all that keeps the dirt out.

Today, clothes don't even get dirty by those standards.

Re:ThinkRail from JetBrains on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:21AM (#50219846)
Not if they're going to be a VSCode skin like everyone else. ThinkRail uses the VSCode editor "Monaco."
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:52PM (#50199485)
If you issue certificates for a Google domain, Google will kill you.

As in, Chrome will distrust your CA and your business is dead. I think that's reasonable.

Yeah you just say that customers lost their money illegally, make the companies give the lost money back and watch them implement know-your-customer real quick, all on their own.
Re:I can't believe PowerShell is good on Thursday October 22, 2026 @01:16AM (#50191462)
PowerShell is nice. It also reads well. What does sed, tar xvf, jq curl -k actually _do_?

And then passing text lines with > like a caveman. Does bash not have the concept of objects?

You write Invoke-WebRequest and it invokes a web request. Easy.

Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:41PM (#50169934)
I for one would be demotivated. Why maintain an official compiler that's not even half as fast as the vibe-coded one?

"Just" publish the language specs and be done.

Indeed. But the Java keystore and the Firefox/Chrome/VSCode NSSDB and whatever Python is shipping this week aren't really better.

I wonder what's so annoying about OS certs.

Would any of the commenters recommend a lawyer for account deletion — when said account gets deleted automatically?

If not, I wonder why it's seen as so critical when Facebook doesn't.

Re:Mitos editor is a fork of Helix on Sunday October 18, 2026 @02:22PM (#50143833)
I don't even have a prod environment anymore. I route any incoming traffic directly to my LLM on Openrouter and let it answer.
Re:Character.ai files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:55PM (#50074867)
Elon is the richest person on earth and he doesn't seem particularly happy. Trump is the most powerful and hate-tweets himself to sleep every night. Zuckerberg seems to be his happiest doing sport and spending time with his family.
Re:I'm sorry, but you still have to think on Sunday October 11, 2026 @01:58PM (#50045924)
With all these ports, I always wonder: Who implements new features, and in which code base?

It's easy to port a codebase (at least, if you have automated tests), but once you've done that, do you

- Implement features in the old code and port again?

- Implement them in the new, unfamiliar codebase?

- Just write a Jira ticket and let the agent YOLO it?

You've fallen prey to the "Everyone is stupid except me" fallacy.

By the time you add cloud-storage space integration (SharePoint), live collaborative editing, support hotline, support for 30 year old macros, and Active directory user integration, you'll be charging the same per seat.

But hey, proof me wrong please. Code it.

Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @04:25AM (#50040840)
> Even if you hate Amazon or Google, you probably wouldn't want AWS or Google Cloud datacenters destroyed by Iran, because that would just affect innocent users.

Interesting take. Last I checked, those datacenters hosted software that targeted a children's school.

Re:The Deeply Impersonal Personalized Recruiter Mail on Thursday October 08, 2026 @02:05PM (#50009531)
You can still easily spot actual work, whether in website design or recruiter messages. Isn't that the whole schtick of the article?

But low-effort spam will always dominate, that's just the nature of it. You will always receive 10 times more messages that were only 1/10th of the work on the other side. How could it ever be otherwise?

AI gets cheaper, people use it everywhere. Google searches, for example. Now we want to crack math problems and spend weeks with unreleased models.

If you used GPT-2, it'd be incredibly cheap. You basically can't use it for anything and it's simple to serve.

Re:Friendship ended with Deno, now Node is my best friend on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @01:03PM (#49981211)

Re:City building games have a Soul Problem pt.2 on Saturday October 03, 2026 @01:07PM (#49945960)
Decent? I couldn't quit the game and finished my first (and only) run at 5am.

It's truly amazing. It integrated with my ten year old Alienware keyboard and made the lighting ice blue during a snow storm.

Re:Gemini ending free use of Flash and Pro models on Saturday October 03, 2026 @07:29AM (#49943290)
You're right, this is Lite. I change my charge to "this is the AI you're going to get on the free tier."

I mean, sure you can blame Google Maps, but it wasn't my choice to consult Google Maps.

I think noticeable here is how hard it is to steer this trash model even when fed already correct information.

I asked "why closed?" and it corrected me to "it's open" with wrong information. Then it got the current time wrong.

That's what they want you to pay for:
