This is not new or controversial. Names vary between languages and countries. What would be controversial, is for Google to decide on other names than the official one. If you're upset about the name change, blame the one who gave the order.
Re:Suspicious data pattern in recent Venezuelan election on Wednesday July 31, 2024 @05:30PM (#41123659)
To play the devil's advocate: It's possible that the person making the announcement was only given the rounded percentages and the total number of votes, and then "created" the number of votes per candidate to fit to the format of the announcement. That would be sloppy, but not malicious.

Anyone who travels between countries?

Not saying it would solve ALL the problems described in the blog post, but keeping these conversations to shared channels would be the first thing I'd do. I my experience, the chance of professionalism goes way up and the risk of miscommunication goes way down when anyone can read the messages.

It seems that they allow you to pick which region(s) to deploy to. What are you missing at that point?

Is it because you need to be able to defer responsibility to a legal entity of the EU?

Re:What happens to developers who never go into management? on Saturday December 11, 2021 @07:22AM (#29520403)
How about just continuing as an average developer? Is this not possible?
Ok thanks I'll read Chrome's and Firefox source code over the weekend.
> Money

That's incredibly vague. Can you explain? How are the many forks/variants of Chromium and WebKit not affected by this "money" factor in the same way

> Firing thousands of workers for not being vaccinated (including those, to repeat, who have natural immunity through infection) is also unprecedented

Is this true in the US? It seems unreasonable.

What I've seen in the EU is that antibodies and frequent PCR testing are deemed just as acceptable as vaccination, and I think it makes sense.

The name in English seems a bit gimmicky. "Älv" in the context means "river" and not "elf". I guess someone choose to use this play on words in the translation to pique interest and garner sympathy.
> Umm am I missing something?

Probably.

> Wouldn't you just use GSuite and set up other domains as aliases?

Not if you think this Migadu or some other service suits your needs better or provides better value.

I don't think passenger airline companies have the authority to close the airspace of a country. That would have to be a political decision.

A funny thing about the desktop icon setting - they are actually aware that it's hard to find so on one of those screens in Settings you get a link like "How do I change the desktop icons?". Clicking that does not take you to screen where you can change it though, instead it opens a help page in your browser that describes the awkward navigation steps to get there.
My interpretation would be that the rate of survival is 53%; 348/(305+348). People don't die immediately, the ones currently infected can go either to the "Recovered" figure or the "Deaths" figure.

From the link above: 14628 are currently infected(?) 305 were infected and died 348 were infected and recovered

As a native Swedish speaker, it sounded more like a latvian or lithuanian person trying to speak British English.
If you live in an apartment in Sweden it's now often treated as a utility. I have the following things included in my rent: water, (central) heating and 1Gb/1Gb internet. I don't even know which provider it is.

I disagree. It's not about being pedantic, but losing confidence that the author understands concepts that are highly relevant to the subject.

People tip a lot more when paying in cash. Also, they can pocket some of the cash payments and avoid taxes.
Re:Is K8s Too Complicated? on Saturday May 12, 2018 @12:18PM (#17054728)
Having worked with Docker Swarm previously - Kubernetes seems like they added 5 layers of abstractions and at the same time made it feel more low-level.

I think Kubernetes has all the building blocks to be great but desperately needs a simplified flow/model and UI for developers who just want to run their apps.

Re:Self-Awareness for Introverts [pdf] on Monday May 07, 2018 @02:48AM (#17010794)
It seems to me that this is not about introversion but instead about insecurities or emotional issues.

Is it supposed to work with transparency? I only get black pixels instead.
Sort of. It was founded in 1856 as a government agency. In 2001 it was turned into a company with 100% of the shares owned by the government.

Additionally, it's not a "rail line". It's the largest train operator in Sweden.

Re:SQRL – Secure Quick Reliable Login on Friday June 02, 2017 @08:07AM (#14469262)
That's pretty odd. I struggle to see the point. Certainly didn't help establish trust in the service.
Ironically, parts of the employee protection in Sweden is based on semi voluntary deals between unions and employers. There is no law for minimum wage, for example.
