Re:Duet is the future of chatbot interaction on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:22PM (#50297670)
They support payments through Shop and Link. I don't know about the former, but Link requires that you do a separate approval for purchases. The Duet cannot just take a card and do what it wants.
It even predates Citizens United, 1 U.S. Code § 1 (introduced by The Dictionary Act in 1871) defines Corporations as people.

they are doing a mobile first approach, there is no desktop version.
Re:Poll: Why are people leaving their jobs? on Friday January 14, 2022 @03:34PM (#29940037)
I jumped from a small startup to a larger company in 2021 because I was getting bored with the work after a few years and felt that I had stopped growing. I needed a new challenge, and I have some goals that I recognized moving to a larger company would help me grow to achieve. I also wanted to be paid more because the amount of time and work I put in the compensation wasn't competitive. At the much larger company there are many learning programs available to me, stock with value, and more compensation.

I did enjoy wearing many hats and carrying a lot of responsibility for a while, but the pay wasn't worth the stress. I'd like to revisit working at a startup again some day, maybe after I've reached more of my professional goals and bring more value to a company than just code.

I think their TOS is fairly revealing on how they could benefit from it being free: https://www.whatruns.com/terms

Re:GitHub CLI 1.0 on Thursday September 17, 2020 @04:59PM (#24509892)
They do not treat hub as an official github project and rather an unofficial open source project that they don't plan to do away with

They have a document where they expand on this: https://github.com/cli/cli/blob/trunk/docs/gh-vs-hub.md

If you cannot access the WSJ article, the random internet weirdo has a Wikipedia page that touches on some of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weev
Re:Ask HN: Why did you join the tech industry? on Wednesday April 15, 2020 @03:15PM (#22881832)
I first got into coding at 15 after chatting with the admin of an MMORPG private server I played on often over IRC on QuakeNet. Eventually I discovered that there was more than QuakeNet, and a group of moderators from forum network I followed had an IRC server. There I made a couple of friends and started learning PHP, getting into building my own websites.

I enjoyed it a lot, and I decided that as I got older I'd start my own company building apps! It grew from there, getting my first job locally and a couple of years later joined a startup.

I'm curious about this too. If your business has high risk than raising your fees for select people sounds like discrimination. Raising them for your whole platform could really hurt your business
Did you continue to get DDoS after moving to AWS? I figure that AWS would take similar steps if you are not using Shield or one of their other products that would help mitigation.

I'd like to know if anyone has experience there.

Re:Ask HN: How do you actually sit properly? on Friday February 07, 2020 @03:57PM (#22270840)
Could you link to the chair you're using? I've been eyeing https://www.autonomous.ai/office-chairs/ergonomic-chair myself
Re:Ask HN: Sendgrid vs.? on Wednesday January 22, 2020 @05:12PM (#22122620)
I cannot say if it is definitively better or not, but I've been happily using Postmark for 2+ years

Re:Ask HN: Do you collect in-app customer feedback? on Thursday December 05, 2019 @04:17PM (#21716637)
Only recently we've started reaching out to our power users to get feedback on newer redesigns and functionality. I believe we reach out to them over Intercom & email.
Re:Ask HN: Do you collect in-app customer feedback? on Thursday December 05, 2019 @02:37PM (#21715657)
We use Intercom so our users are able to open up a chat and leave us feedback or get help when they need it.

From there we do some very light tagging that is looked over in a short monthly meeting.

We open tickets for bugs (as they come in) so they can be addressed.

What kind of manager position to what kind of executive?
Re:Ask HN: Does equity motivate you? on Tuesday November 05, 2019 @02:40PM (#21455868)
First time equity holder. I like where I work and what I do, but the equity just gives me FOMO when I think about moving on in the future
Re:Ask HN: Is it difficult to hire React developers? on Monday October 14, 2019 @02:36PM (#21251340)
I've found it difficult to hire full-stack developers with at least a year of react experience. Interviewees usually only know enough to be dangerous, or have experience with Node/JavaScript and express interest in growing on the frontend

Hiring those same people has gone really well, similarly becoming comfortable after a few weeks of working with react

Re:Ask HN: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? on Friday September 27, 2019 @05:52PM (#21096602)
I like to think I'll be a VPE or CTO

Still not sure how to get there, but in the last 2 years I've had the opportunity to be involved in the building and planning around a product and I know that's what I want to keep doing.

Re:Ask HN: Do You Release on Fridays? on Monday September 23, 2019 @04:02PM (#21052962)
We release on Fridays, but approaching or after 4PM we ask ourselves "can it wait till Monday?"
Re:Gitlab: 2019 Developer Report on Friday July 19, 2019 @01:18PM (#20480594)
Not sure what "using GitLab" means in context, but I use GitLab CI via their GitHub mirroring support.
If you don't mind me asking: What kind of doctor did you see? What do you say when you want to make an appointment?

Lately I've been wanting to talk to a doctor, but I get very hung up on who I need to see and how to kick off the conversation about how I've been feeling.

It might be a stretch to call it "world's most modern" IRC client when it looks like a pretty generic client.

I really think at some point the word modern just won't make sense in the same sentence as "IRC".

I think as your first node project it looks pretty cool though.
