Re:Google Reports Better-Than-Seen Revenue Growth on Thursday July 17, 2014 @06:03PM (#8050484)
"Google has become 22% better at selling its users habits and personal information to advertisers"
Re:Looks by Dr. Dre on Wednesday July 09, 2014 @05:57PM (#8012473)
You're a smug asshole, aren't you. The reason they are so successful is the technology falls by the wayside; that's how advanced they are. Just because you get off rooting your phone doesn't mean they're not the leaders in technical excellence.
Re:The secretive billionaire who built Silicon Valley on Tuesday July 08, 2014 @02:16PM (#8005879)
This really isn't newsworthy. Also, anyone even marginally working in the Real Estate industry is a scumbag.

This man added no value other than as an intermediary; he may have added value to Stanford (questionable) but he got rich off land. Nothing more.

Here comes the hurricane...
Re:P.F. Chang’s Breach Likely Began in Sept. 2013 on Wednesday June 18, 2014 @12:23PM (#7910951)
You enjoy eating at PF Changs China Bistro? Really?

Do you also enjoy The Olive Garden?

Re:Rum Deal: America’s booze laws are terrible on Monday June 16, 2014 @02:28PM (#7900633)
This article doesn't even bring up ABC (alcohol boards) who's sole purpose is to waste taxpayer money on sting operations at bars and push for esoteric laws that make it harder and harder to get a drink.

Make no mistake -- alcohol boards and organizations like MADD are simply neo-prohibiitonist movements co-opted by religious zealots.

Re:Only Apple on Friday June 13, 2014 @07:57PM (#7891447)
Yes, my cash - the end user.

Not other companies looking to get my "attention"

Re:Only Apple on Friday June 13, 2014 @07:54PM (#7891438)
I wanted to point that out too. Heh.

hi five

Re:Only Apple on Friday June 13, 2014 @07:53PM (#7891429)
Did you really post this just now?
Re:Only Apple on Friday June 13, 2014 @07:50PM (#7891415)
I find it hard to argue with any of the points he makes. I'm sure someone here will, but I found myself doing the mental "gulp of air and raising a finger" then getting silenced again.

I really wish Microsoft had pulled off Windows Phone; it arguably had a much better user experience than Android did (and still does) -- and interesting Nokia hardware.

I simply don't believe Google has the best interests of anyone at heart except themselves and advertisers.

The next 10 years are going to be very interesting indeed.

Re:Honeywell Lyric thermostat on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @12:12PM (#7873404)
I won't buy a NEST after the Google acquisition; nice to see other players entering this space.

Laughable how long it took them -- Honeywell should have completely owned this market.

Next up for disruption is home security.

Re:Apple Confirms Its $3 Billion Deal for Beats Electronics on Wednesday May 28, 2014 @05:18PM (#7813025)
As an owner of a new Lexus -- absolutely. Can't wait until my lease is up.
Re:Apple Confirms Its $3 Billion Deal for Beats Electronics on Wednesday May 28, 2014 @05:12PM (#7812984)
I used my trial of Beats Music for awhile -- I will admit, it had the BEST discovery and automatic playlist creation of any service I've ever used (Rdio, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes Radio) -- you really could be confident when you suggested a song it would build a list of songs that you weren't skipping.

It also had a unique UI.

Re:Apple Confirms Its $3 Billion Deal for Beats Electronics on Wednesday May 28, 2014 @05:10PM (#7812970)
How's the autism spectrum treating you?

"CDS ARE DIGITAL MUSIC!!!"

Re:Apple Confirms Its $3 Billion Deal for Beats Electronics on Wednesday May 28, 2014 @05:06PM (#7812950)
It might be hard for someone with an autism-spectrum order to understand, but normals really love music. It's part of being a human being.

So yes, Music is extremely important. For anyone.

Re:The brave new world of DIY faecal transplant on Tuesday May 27, 2014 @12:05PM (#7805151)
As someone who's father died from rapid, late-onset Ulcerative Colitis, this is really fantastic and makes me wonder what could have been.
Re:Some of the work we did at Danger on Thursday May 22, 2014 @02:41PM (#7785511)
I had a Sidekick Color and a Sidekick II. I also carried a Moto RAZR while I was in high school.

The sidekick was a phenomenal device. Battery lasted all day -- I could text and had unlimited data over GPRS (maybe EDGE?) - and I was one of the only students who could Google and read in class. I browsed forums, looked up answers, even started essays on that keyboard.

You had a persistent AIM -- and the interface was prettier and more fluid than Android (up to the latest release).

What a delight that device was.

Re:Netflix to expand to Germany, France and Switzerland on Wednesday May 21, 2014 @02:59PM (#7780063)
What? This is hacker news!
Ah, yes -- the down vote has come.
Great point
Don't be like this man.

There are people on here, reading this comment right now, who will become fantastically rich.

Minimize externalities to your behavior. Be considerate, be thoughtful, be kind.

Be the opposite of Vinod Khosla.

Re:Why Sweden has so few road deaths on Monday May 05, 2014 @07:20PM (#7701919)
They make no mention of much better driver training; higher-quality and routinely inspected automobiles; less traffic; and cultural values that probably play a huge role.

*Edited Typo

Negative. We'll never see a Google self driving car commercially.

It's a science experiment.

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about?
I love how absolutely fucking dismissive this community can be about Apple.

They fundamentally reinvented mobile phones. They brought real touch screens (resistive doesn't count) to the masses.

They had very real, seemingly obvious now, because they are so utterly perfect (slide to unlock) innovations.

They absolutely have the right to sue a company that is fundamentally a copying lab. Samsung has absolutely nothing to stand on here.

This community is hilarious. I hope when one of you innovates even at 1/1,000th the level of Apple, someone ganks your idea (badly) and see how you feel.

Re:Burying the URL on Thursday May 01, 2014 @12:02PM (#7680576)
Just further reinforces my opinion that Google Chrome is a Bad Browser™

Not "bad" in the sense of rendering or security holes (Read: IE6), but bad in that "experiments" can be "deployed" to users at any time, and a company with the aspergian-tendences of Google has control over that.

Re:Putting the Chat into Snapchat on Thursday May 01, 2014 @11:47AM (#7680465)
I'm gonna make an assumption that you (and many people on here) sit all day and probably don't exercise intensely regularly, eat healthily, or sleep very well.

I don't think "RSI" by swiping on a screen is your most pressing health concern.

Re:Google AdSense leak? on Tuesday April 29, 2014 @01:47PM (#7668712)
How dare anyone on HN attack Google.
Re:Android betrays tethering data on Tuesday April 29, 2014 @12:06PM (#7667913)
Data is data is data is data.

Youtube blocking "mobile playback" of videos is the same as carriers blocking tethering without a specific plan or arbitrary caps (3GB mobile data, 1GB tether)

This is something, across all mobile platforms, we should be fighting tooth and nail.

Re:Apple Announces 7 For 1 Stock Split on Wednesday April 23, 2014 @07:17PM (#7637551)
Gotta love the fucking down vote brigade on anything remotely pro-Apple.
