While I broadly disagree with much of this, I have been advocating for years that expanding the universe would indeed dispel much of the issues with the power disparity between groups, as well as encourage more involved logistics and stuff like that.

Maybe one day :)

Re:EVE Online moves to Python 3 on Sunday August 30, 2026 @02:20AM (#49496155)
The thing with EVE is that, even with all the ISK and SP in the game, you can't just buy your way to a win - you can't buy skill. You can have perfect skills and buy the best ship and modules and all that, but if you don't know how to fly, you're going to lose your ship immediately and it won't even be a fight.

That, coupled with your second paragraph (the new player experience being so rough) and I've never really been too upset about the stuff CCP sells.

Indeed, this is very generous of them, and we should be thankful.

What has changed about the EVE economy that you don't like?

> Buy low, sell high. Specialize in industry, trading, transportation

I did all of this, quite profitably and for quite a long time, in EVE?

It also seems to ignore the companies and individuals that got rich because they chose to move jobs overseas.
> Mandate that any fresh new currency be apportioned and distributed to only living citizens

> Giving everyone fresh currency, and taxing those of significant wealth to sop up inflation (corporations and individuals), is how business entities get forced into serving the people again.

This doesn't really sound like capitalism, mate.

Nope. But I don't see that happening anywhere either, so I guess that explains the confusion.
Re:Early-life stress leaves a 'scar' inside brain cells on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:38AM (#49407096)
I understand what your position is. I addressed that already.

I don't understand what the point in taking that position in this thread is. Someone mentioned some injustice in the world. You point out many others, and suggest there might always be such injustices in the world. Why? What now? I just don't understand where the conversation is supposed to go after this, or what the person you're replying to is supposed to do with what you're saying - particularly as you haven't replied to my or the other comment's reply to your point on human nature.

Re:typ.ing on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:35AM (#49407079)
That doesn't seem to happen on typ.ing or really any other typing site I know of.
Re:typ.ing on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:35AM (#49407076)
> the point is to type the word a you'd do in real life,

I don't really know about that. I think the point is to practice typing, and that may or may not reflect how you type in everyday life. For example, most people don't spend their time typing random words without numbers or punctuation :)

In any case, are you saying that if you correct a word during one of these tests, it simply should not count as a mistake? Because if not, then I don't see what the problem is again - typ.ing and most other sites note corrections, and distinguish between corrected and uncorrected mistakes.

If so, I guess we might just disagree on what the point of these exercises is.

Re:typ.ing on Sunday August 23, 2026 @03:50AM (#49406867)
I don't really get this. This is how it should work, no? The point is to type the word correctly; if you miss a letter or mistype, and keep typing, then yeah, it's several mistakes in a row?

ErgoDox EZ with brown switches. It took a (long) while to get used to, but far more comfortable to type on long-term IMO

I also use a Kensington trackball mouse

The most important part of human nature/the human condition is our ability - or perhaps even need - to reflect and grow and change. It happens slowly, but it inevitably happens.

Any way though, I'm not really sure what your point is. That we shouldn't care or try to stop it because it's "part of the human condition"? That we must care about all these injustices equally? That if we can't address all these injustices equally, we mustn't address any?

I really have no idea what this means but I guess my mental model of the universe is quite wrong haha
Ahh, you almost had me up until the celibacy!
Re:Scientists release biggest 2D map of the universe on Saturday August 22, 2026 @01:09AM (#49396735)
Don't we more or less already know that the universe - at least the space itself, not the stuff in it - is indeed infinitely large?

There is no "correct" next word when it comes to communicating with an actual human.

Re:Early-life stress leaves a 'scar' inside brain cells on Friday August 21, 2026 @03:48PM (#49393011)
This is what I think of when I think of "early life stress" in kids - not worrying about school.
This is by far one of the best typos I've ever seen.

It's as though you're talking to someone and they were said to their 'assistant', "Explain this to this person" and walked away. It doesn't really matter what the explanation is, it's just gross.

What have they implemented?

Very frustrating.

So that means this change will result in a noticeable decline in such scams, right?

Right??

> through some form of authority (or something else that is very difficult for AI to fake, but that protection can be broken by advancing technology).

The word you're looking for is "reputation". It's been a critical part of society since forever.

How is the court going to ensure they stick to that promise? Or is this basically just a pinky promise?
