No, but I do look forward to all the stories of people who did. Should be interesting

After ~10 years with ProtonMail I have gone back to hosting my own email and, with the help of Claude, I now have the email setup I've always wanted. I'm actually kinda glad now to have been forced to finally solve email for myself so, thanks ProtonMail, it was a good run.

Re:Ask HN: What has been your favorite VPN provider?
on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:26PM (#50318104)
Been using AirVPN for a while and I'm pretty happy with it. Every once in a while there is a web site that blocks me but those sites tend to block all VPN services so AirVPN is not necessarily unique or being singled-out in those instances.

I don't think you can blame AI for that.

Re:Ask HN: Are you using a custom harness?
on Friday October 30, 2026 @07:00AM (#50302284)
I have been using my own harness for quite a while now and giving it constant and continuous updates and improvements. It is optimized for use with local models but can also use any API that I have an account with too when the desire arises.

Re:Ask HN: How do you keep your mind from forgetting how to think?
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:44PM (#50277726)
No, it hasn't been an issue. Claude will stay within its project boundaries and is generally very cautious, maybe sometimes even overly-cautious, about anything it does that might effect other projects. It knows about all the projects on my dev machine and is good at staying in its lane.
Re:Ask HN: How do you keep your mind from forgetting how to think?
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:35PM (#50277529)
I always have two projects going at once, one for Claude and one for me. I'll set Claude off on a long autonomous turn, move that window to its own monitor so i can check on it as needed, and I get to work on my project. It's kinda like having a colleague sitting next to you who is working on a separate project. You can talk about each other's projects and ask for help or a fresh set of eyes when necessary. There are actually several projects that i won't let Claude touch simply because I don't want any drift in my own understanding of what has been done.

Re:Ask HN: What do you believe or not believe about AI?
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:22AM (#50273139)
If the goal is genuine artificial intelligence (or artificial cognition), and I think it is, then an LLM can only ever be a piece of that puzzle, they represent the language center of the AI brain. True cognitive intelligence will require a completely new and novel technology that doesn't yet exist and it will itself rely on a language model for all its powerful reasoning tools. Reasoning is only part of cognition, the role of an LLM in the AI puzzle.

on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:33AM (#50271393)
Even the best McDonald's is a flaming bag of shit but I suppose useless high school kids will always need a place to pretend to be at work so they do serve that purpose well enough.
Re:Ask HN: What do you believe or not believe about AI?
on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:12AM (#50271282)
I believe in a few years we'll have moved on to some other amazing new technology and LLMs will just be another tool in that stack. Datacenters will become relatively obsolete and most of them will hopefully become indoor MTB and/or skate parks, maybe indoor e-moto tracks.

In truth, the true blame is on a fundamentally broken healthcare system made unaffordable to many people so they seek free advice. If ChatGPT didn't exist she may have asked a friend or co-worker for advice and maybe the same thing happens. I doubt they'd have spoken as confidently though.

Some lessons in life are expensive. Now you know and you won't let it happen again and you will make fewer presumptions moving forward. Overall, a win in the experience category.
PS. Im also an everyday user of Claude on the Max plan and I too love it.
