I've tackled this issue from a bunch of different angles, and have never come to any comfortable conclusion. But one can assume that, there is a semi-random distribution of these traits based on genes and inheritance. So these people are going to keep cropping up, and maybe even more of them. Given that there's no way to stop people with certain personality traits from being born, what to do with them? Unless we're making exceptions, these people also have human rights as well.
Thank you for this! I'm trying to get deeper into open source audio software and programming, looking forward to spending some time with this on the weekend.
> you can't fake empathy
I disagree partly, faking empathy and goodwill is a cornerstone of manipulation in politics. However, I agree it's not a long-term strategy and over the medium-term (months not years) people will learn to see through it. Some people are more transparent than others in this regard.
"Tully said it’s mostly because of the heavy rain, which carries sewage into Lake Ontario and into creeks and rivers."
Yes, this is the problem. Anyone in the GTA can tell you about the wonders of our Combined Sewer systems:

This is very cool and something I have been curious about for a long time. How is the performance?
The more common term is "entities" or "elves"-and I can't really say I've ever seen them.
Too much probably, doesn't help that I am dissatisfied with my job. I'm going to have to go back to pomodoros for time management.
I'll always love stuff like this, such a fun way to practice without the pressure of finding something to report on.
Problem is the FBI will see people doing this, and most likely profile/track these individuals... Wait, you're one of them aren't you!
An I Ching throwing program was the first program I wrote on my own, and is still an exercise I like to go through when teaching myself a new programming language.
This article sums up my view on this whole issue. I feel that the reason why the authorities are making this into a big issue is to 'make an example' of this case. It indeed seems like getting access to the phone would be a matter of electricity and time.

May have turned me into a workaholic though...
It's my understanding that 24 bit audio can capture the quieter sounds in greater detail than 16 bit. So say if you EQ out a frequency range in order to "zoom in" on a much quieter range, like the motorcycle vs. whisper, you can hear the whisper in as much detail as a full CD quality recording.
For playback though, I agree that 14 bits are probably enough. Even high quality mastering tape has the equivalent of about 12 bits of dynamic range, which is fine. Many fabled analog pieces of equipment have terrible signal-noise characteristics, but are still valued for other reasons (coloration, distortion etc...)-which is all fine by me.
I would be very curious to listen to SACD on some good headphones in a quiet room. Not sure if I've ever even seen a SACD player aside from maybe in the Sony store 10 years ago. The trick would be to find something that would be mastered for the format.
I'm very jealous of your healthy hearing range... I now wear hearing protection, but the damage has been done. When it comes to file storage, I will take a 44.1/48K 24 bit FLAC happily, since it usually comes out to the same size as a CD-Q WAV file anyways. I see no reason why everything shouldn't be in this format, but CD's have made a serious dent in formatting standards/habits.
From my experience, what matters more than sample rate is 24 bit vs. 16 bit sampling in the recording/production process. Using heavy compression and EQ can mean that very quiet sounds can become louder, in this case 24 bit recording is ideal. Sample rate wise, anything above 40khz is fine for most ears (I've probably lost a few khz in the upper range anyways) Another note is that most converters operate at a multiple of 48K, so it makes sense to use 48/96khz if you are recording. It all comes down to how much disk space you have, and want to use up.
True, thank you for this clarification. I myself use KeePass but it's more for convenience of password generation and storage than anything else.
I always had a feeling that KeePass was likely not much better than a flat text file, or piece of paper with all my passwords on it. Thank you for confirming this.
Now we just need to find a Tor user with enough money to buy EV certificates...
Very fun to practice various cross-scripting and injection techniques on!
Sorry, espresso. People correct me about this all the time. It's such an ingrained habit I don't know if I'll ever be able to pronounce/type that word properly.
This is something one would never see in Europe. In Paris it's acceptable to buy an expresso, or a glass of wine and stay for hours. On my last day in Paris I did this and got a free bowl of chips too! Talk about hospitality.
Yeah, it's likely a terrible idea to start "modding" a pre-built home without consulting builders, getting the correct permits, etc. There's probably few non-nutcase reasons why a person would do this, as your link attests to. Still, a man can dream about having an indoor shooting gallery, or whatever. The best option would be to construct from scratch.
I'll admit that I too have dreamt about doing something like this, but more along the lines of adding a sub-basement beneath an existing one. Almost like a Cold-War era bomb shelter, or safe room. Doing so on public property is obviously a bad idea for a number of reasons. Also barbecuing in an enclosed space-great way to win a Darwin award.
