My common sources of carbs are potatoes (microwaved, then chilled in the fridge, consumed cold), stone fruits, citrus, apples, berries, avocado, peanut butter, peppers, tomatoes, yogurt, fermented vegetables.

I dont get cramps but I do supplement magnesium glycinate or taurate daily you may want to look into that if you havent.

Ive fasted for multiple days and done cardio each day w/ no cramps, just sharing my experience.

Yea I definitely don't consider the SAD diet meat based since they insist 45-65% daily food should come from carbs. According to the USDA I should be eating 300-400grams of carbs per day which is just insane to me. Based on my fam history it guarantee I will be a diabetic. On any day I eat maybe 0 to 30g of carbs from whole foods. The liver is always producing endogenous glucose there is no need for dietary carbohydrates. The USDA's guidelines are an absolute disgrace.
What is this exactly...a study of studies of meta-analyses of elective food survey questionaires?
Here's some more reading about reversing type 2 diabetes naturally. The current paradigm that one requires chronic disease management for the rest of their life is entirely false.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7400171/#:~:tex.... "Although treating type 2 diabetes complications is of utmost importance to protect organ damage, it is now increasingly recognized that even the more ambitious goal of diabetes remission may be possible [6]. Thus, while there is little doubt that healthy lifestyle habits are the cornerstone of prevention of type 2 diabetes, they could also be used as an effective treatment to even potentially reverse type 2 diabetes. In this regard, the interesting narrative review published by Hallberg SJ and colleagues [7] has summarized the evidence that type 2 diabetes reversal is possible with the use of three different approaches: bariatric surgery, low-calorie diets and carbohydrate restriction."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10716578/ "Unlocking the Potential of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Remission"

Reversing type 2 diabetes naturally is not scientifically unfounded at all. Look online in the right places and there is tons of people that have been able to stop taking all their insulin and metformin etc by fasting, compressing feeding windows, cutting out all carbs.

Even the ADA had to finally acknowledge this is possible in a statement back in 2021: https://diabetes.org/newsroom/international-experts-outline-...

It's not such a crazy idea really - You consume so many carbohydrates that you overproduce insulin and become insensitive to it in a vicious cycle. The more you fast, stay in a ketogenic metabolic status, reduce carbs and/or go zero carb, compress your feeding windows the more insulin sensitive you become.

There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Your body can maintain your glucose needs by converting proteins into glucose. Fat and proteins are essential. Glucose is not it can be produce by liver.

You cant take these drugs forever afaik. Do they have permanent effects? It's just absurd to me the world has come to the point that we need these drugs in the first place but it makes total sense when you look at America for example. Awash in hyperpalatable processed "food" and corrupt food guidelines, a medical industry that "manages" chronic metabolic preventable disease but never cures it when probably 99% of cases could be reversed naturally. Big pharma and big food play their roles. Just insanity.
Re:Multiple Displays on a Mac Sucks on Friday April 26, 2024 @04:00AM (#40166887)
100% agree. It absolutely sucks. It sometimes amazes me across all ability apple has that the experience is so atricously obnoxious to try to use more than one monitor with macos. All the points in the article are true and it's a frustrating experience anytime i try it.

Not to mention that macos renders fonts like crap on external displays.

Curious what is it like with grocery stores and plastic bags where you live? If I go to a large grocery store in US there could 100+ people in the store I can guarantee you I am the only one there with my resuable cloth/insulated grocery bags. Everyone else walks out with single use plastic bags.
Every single return Ive done or seen at my drop offs goes into a single use plastic bag + plastic from the tape they use. 99% of my items could ship in a paper bag and don't need plastic bubble wrap. The bubble bag or plastic bag is always completely oversized for the item. I could go on but I think everyone knows the same form their own experience with amazon.
Re:Smoking cannabis is now legal in Germany on Tuesday April 02, 2024 @01:48AM (#39902759)
I think the overlooked risk of cannabis consumption (smoke, vape or especially edible) is on heart health and arterial health.
I would say the most epic fad diet of all time is the Standard American Diet, something that was basically "invented" from the weakest evidence, heavily influenced by corporate interests, politics and still perpetuated to this day despite skyrocketing rates of chronic preventable disease and obesity.

To call a keotgenic diet a fad diet as happens in every HN thread seems to ignore the precedent that ketosis was the primary metabolic status for our ancestors for millions of years. If it wasn't, why are our bodies so precisely designed for it..Just random chance? I dont think so.

Does anyone else have this experience - The "old" pre-mobile phone style sites that were written without any "mobile experience" in mind are actually the most pleasant and easy to use on a phone (with just some extra zoom needed sometimes) while the mobile version of countless sites are actually the worst? Ironic isn't it.
Re:Tiny Undervalued Hardware Companions on Thursday March 21, 2024 @09:21PM (#39786490)
i own a few of these in the list. i'd also add: usb-a / usb-c data blocker.
Ive never done it and the whole thing grosses me out so much id probably pass out. but reading about this lately im honestly considering it. at the same time it makes me wonder i never was interested in donating blood for greater good but now im motivated to get rid of any pfas... so someone else can take them up?
So if this became popular you'd have some camps using it and some not. Wouldn't that be ironicly more annoying than the problem it's solving?

Re:How the U.S. government could lower food prices on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:46PM (#39180499)
I agree, thats why chose to put PRICE PER NUTRITION in all caps because there is a huge difference when someone spends $4 for a carton of eggs vs $4 for a bag of potato chips for example. Everyone seems to complain about food prices but everytime Im at the grocery store I see carts filled to the brin with nutritionally worthless processed foods.

And prep is easy, I guess my tastes are simple - beef, eggs, salt maybe a litle hot sauce. I can cook 3 pounds of ground beef and add about 10-12 eggs in a 12" fry pan and have 3-6 meals in containers in about 45 minutes.

Re:How the U.S. government could lower food prices on Monday January 29, 2024 @01:41PM (#39180396)
Perhaps but if I had a family to feed the bulk size packages are so much cheaper per pound than the smaller qty it almost is a negligble difference sometimes.
Re:How the U.S. government could lower food prices on Monday January 29, 2024 @12:58PM (#39179643)
Is food really that expensive? I eat mostly beef, yogurt, eggs, small canned fish like sardines, a few vegetables and fruits and I find sell by mark downs all the time on beef that I stock up on and freeze. Like just a few dollars per pound. Same thing with eggs, they have price spikes sometimes but a lot of times they are about 10-20 cents per egg. So like 8 oz serving of beef and a few eggs is like $4 per meal total.

Maybe olive oil prices have gone up and some others or lots of packaged and processed foods. But from a PRICE PER NUTRITION standpoint (real food like beef, eggs, etc), I dont find food costs all that bad.

Price per calories for junk processed foods like snacks and juices is a different argument I guess.

I will also add when times are tough you can quit spending money entirely on carbohydrates. Your body cant produce fats or proteins but It can produce all the glucose it needs endogenously. You can supply yourself fats and proteins your liver will take care of making glucose just fine.

We don't build small starter homes anymore. 1-3 bedroom, 1-2 bath homes, single car garage. A small bungalow - the only ones you see were built in the 50s and 60s. You simply never see them in new construction. Actual small, modest affordable homes without expensive features or excessive size. I don't know why it is this way, but it's frustrating to observe this. You have to look in the old neighborhoods for these and sometimes they are bad areas, sometimes they are good. In the good areas a lot of these homes get torn down and replace with expensive homes 2-3x the size.

In America, we simply stopped building small affordable, HOA-free homes. Why?

Re:Please don't make me use another QR code restaurant menu on Saturday January 20, 2024 @01:11PM (#39070466)
The only time I can midly bear a digital menu is if it's a single PDF file that I can pinch and zoom. Otherwise it just feels obnoxious to have to tap thru menus or only see my choices isolated in multiple pages based on a category or something. It feels awkward to sit down with people at a restaurant then we all are tapping away thru some stupid interface for a menu. If it's a single PDF file that one can pinch and zoom around thats the only time I dont get extremely annoyed by this whole thing.
Re:FreeTaxUSA on Wednesday January 10, 2024 @06:07PM (#38944829)
State is $14.99 but each year I find a coupon online for a couple dollars off. Using them for years almost no complaints except for a couple UI tweaks that are relatively minor. Great interface overall.
Really? You dont think the NTSB worker in the picture won't be capable of informing the owner/returning it after they collect it from the scene?

If I found the phone like that guy did my last thought would be to post pictures of the persons private emails and full name to the internet - and get a bunch of attention for it.

Obscured the credit card # but didn't think to grant the passenger some privacy and obscure their full name?

This article makes it seem like they are starting to delete them asap but the sign in warnings I am getting are that deletion is not happening until later 2024. So I have almost a 1 year time to sign in or try to recover the account.

I have forgotten accounts popping up left and right in my gmail. And Ive also been recovering a bunch of accounts that spammers or bots managed to create using my emails as recovery addresses - that are now getting sign in warnings. Ive been able to take over those too.

One could cite a lot of things against the lipid hypothesis and likewise the other way. Maybe just think about this from an armchair standpoint... Before 1900 heart disease was extremely rare. And what were people eating before 1900? A whole lot of beef, bacon, butter, and eggs. Saturated fat consumption per capita was basically unchanged from 1900 to 1950. But heart disease skyrocketed. Look at this data: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FmhBUOpagAA-9Mj?format=png&name=...

Consumption of free sugars, pulverized grains, manufactured oils and cigarette smoking took off like crazy after 1900. Type 2 Diabetes was totaly unchecked and out of control. By 1960 heart disease is the #1 killer and what do they blame... Saturated fat, beef... eggs? Come on... You don't need a million studies to scratch your head a little at the lipid hypothesis.

Re:Teflon is still toxic to birds on Sunday November 05, 2023 @12:23PM (#38153230)
Straight from the 2015 USDA guidelines:

Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 milligrams per day. The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol, consistent with the conclusions of the AHA/ACC report. Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.
