Have you ever contemplated that the "racist, xenophobic and homophobic" behaviour is what is keeping those communities and used to keep other communities homogenous and thereby ensured high-trust? In that case the xenophobia acts like the immune system but for a community/society.

What makes you believe those jobs will still exist or will be available to you competing against massess of other now unemployed software devs? Overabundance of desperate workers will depress wages.

The more important question appears to be why it seems to difficult to follow the advice?

Personally, I'm well aware of the positive effects of drinking plenty of water, eating vegetables, exercising daily, and going to bed early. However, I buy myself a chocolate bar every day, love pizza, just want to unwind after a hard day at work, and still read Reddit late into the night.

All the healthy stuff has friction: a workout takes time out of the day, the veggies need preparation, while going to bed early means I'm missing out on fun or intriguing things that I would learn about otherwise.

As a Reddit user I'm using this simple replace function to switch to the old.reddit.com version of a page:

javascript:(function(){ if (location.hostname === "www.reddit.com") { location.href = location.href.replace("www.reddit.com", "old.reddit.com"); }})();

Necessary due to Google search results on Reddit leading to the new.reddit.com version of a page which demands a login more often than not.

Most likely. For me personally, the ADHD medication hasn't helped, and after missing two appointments in a row, I'm now too embarrassed to call the doctor and get a new prescription.
>I've tried this and the temptation to remove the block is too much.

Or circumvent it. I used a blocking plugin, until I've learned it does not affect other/new browser profiles. Some other low-level solutions I've tried could be bypassed Tor mode inside Brave browser. It seems like my brain just doesn't want to focus on the damn work, but rather on how to get that dopamine hit the easy way.

Although I enjoyed reading her book and found most of the information plausible, I always found it strange that the author herself seems so uncharismatic, especially given her claim that charisma can be learned.

The same goes for Robert Greene, author of "The 48 Laws of Power," "The Art of Seduction," and several other books. I've watched a few interviews with him, and he strikes me as completely unremarkable, uncharismatic, and rather unconvincing, which makes me doubt the validity of his books' promises.

That wasn't very helpful...

Re:Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @01:33AM (#41576121)
> A 10-year-old girl also died.

The death of that one girl, if it isn't entirely made up for propaganda purposes, is obviously very very tragic, but since almost all pro-Hezbollah commentators are referring to that one specific case that's a pretty clear sign that no other children died. Interestingly I'm now seeing comments where they're making her younger from 10yo to 9yo, now even 8yo. You can ask yourself why people are doing that.

While in their own attacks Hezbollah specifically targets Israeli civilians hoping for children to be among the victims.

> They took no precautions to limit damage to bystanders

The fact that those explosions were small enough to not kill even a single-digit percentage of several thousand targets who carried those pagers in their pockets near vital organs and blood vessels refutes your allegations.

> assuming that every person with a pager was a BadGuy™

These days, even in Lebanon, normal people simply own a cell phone so they can be called. When was the last time you even saw one? They are incredibly rare. The purpose of a pager is to receive (movement) orders and, in the case of Hezbollah, to make tracking more difficult. While it is possible that medical personnel may have used some of these pagers, it is highly unlikely that a new shipment of pagers would not primarily go to Hezbollah's "valuable" command staff, for whom being able to move and operate undetected is the greatest concern. According to Wikipedia, Hezbollah has more than 20,000 full-time fighters, and at 3,000-5,000 devices, this would not have been enough to resupply even a major part of the entire organization, so it is unlikely that any civilian outside the command structure would have received one, even less a random 10yo girl.

Ask yourself again if this is terrorism:

- if the attack was so specifically targeted at military targets

And collateral damage was minimized by:

- using a vector unlikely to be used by innocent civilians

- a sufficiently small explosion not to seriously injure people standing in close proximity to the target as indicated by the many videos floating around

>or firmware hack.

There's still the question of how the explosive capsule would have been triggered. It couldn't just explode at the first incoming call. There must be more to that.

>Whoever did this just killed that as an information channel as both the devices and the network are now compromised.

This is also true for Hezbollah. They must now distrust their own network, equipment and procurement channels. The reshuffling resulting from the casualties will make the organization less effective, at least temporarily, thus delaying any attack plans and allowing moles to rise through the ranks.

What is your grief with Clojure (because I'm just trying to get familiar with it)?

I think it means something like "secretly". It's millenial slang.
Of course, there will always be someone who has it way worse or lives inside an underdeveloped region but this isn't some kind of competition. To observe the lifelong negative effects of growing up poor one doesn't have to grow up in absolute squalor.

Living in a large German city, I also never owned a car and didn't feel poor for the fact.

Strange question, perhaps, but I'm curious because I always wanted to try Nattō:

If you eat it regularly, do you also smell like it?

I ask because people who eat a lot of garlic (or masala spice) often have strong body odor due to consuming these spices.
