The "the usual song and dance people" of letting people choose what to do with their money. Sure bud.
Correct. And the fact that Apple has been raked over the coals for years about it, yet people, even on HN, don't know that the rest are doing it, really makes me question people's motives.
Are you kidding? Did you not see Anthropic's S1 filing? Never has so much value (in dollars) been created by a company in such a short time in the history of humanity. I'm not sure how your takeaway from that is "don't do this".
You've been watching too many movies. Casino's are going to risk getting shut down in 2026 to "convince" random people of anything.
CMD+F Ender
That's exactly where my mind went. Something I've wanted ever since I read that book a couple decades ago.
As far as I can tell, "slop" doesn't have a clear definition. It seems to just mean "AI used poorly or obviously". Nobody cares if a developer of a game uses AI as long as it's done well. They might not even know.
The idea that there is a future where game devs don't use AI, while the rest of the industry does, is absurd. We do know that AI will be widely embraced in gaming, because the alternative is, what? The honor system?
> What Dyson sphere level of power would be needed to maintain such a simulation
Why would you assume energy is relevant to whoever turned on our simulation? If I created a simulation where the only source of energy was cotton candy, my creations might ask "but where would our creator even get enough cotton candy to run a simulation like this", not realize that it's absurd to think that the creator of a simulation has any of the same constraints that exist inside the simulation.
I don't get how Google is so horrible at product. Let me play with this. Otherwise it's DOA.
Surely you can see how that isn't much of a distinction. And even that is something that the west clearly should not allow.
Isn't that entirely because investors are betting on on Musk succeeding though? Lunar base / Mars colony / hundreds of daily starship launches is the long game. It's no different than Anthropics entire valuation being based on ASI. If they never achieve ASI, 2 trillion is the most insane valuation of all time. If they achieve it, 2 trillion will be your worst missed opportunity of all time.
> We know Tesla and SpaceX are going down at some point
How do we "know" that about SpaceX? Still seems to me like they're basically maintaining their decade lead on everyone else on rocketry. And remaining competitive in their other endeavors as well. To me it doesn't seem at all unreasonable for SpaceX to never be meaningfully cheaper than it is today. But I'm not exactly following SpaceX closely. What am I missing?
Apple was "greedy" before too and were able to sell it cheaper. So obviously they're being impacted by increased storage/memory/whatever prices.
> AI does not solve this problem
AI absolutely solves that problem. Just about every prompt "fixes" the dried out pieces of the code. And it's only getting better at that every month.
Sometimes I feel like people are experiencing AI so differently that it makes talking about it nearly impossible.
"gets" is certainly a word choice. There is about a 0% chance NM get's anywhere near $25 billion
> Let's remember nothing cigarette companies did were illegal as well
What are you getting at? That we should jail people for not breaking laws?
The fact that you're comparing this to fucking Hitler is insane. Even you know it, which is why you were too embarrassed to say it.
Your way of working is definitely going away. And quickly. The idea of reviewing code today is already a questionable use of time. In a few more months to a year it will clearly be a waste of time.
Way to go, you missed the point. The point is you can't conclude which speed to move at is responsible or irresponsible without significantly more information.
Is it responsible to move slowly when your competitors are moving quickly? Depends on how your competitors perform. If they perform well, then your "responsibility" suddenly becomes your extinction.
As Twenty One Pilots said:
> I'd die for you, that's easy to say
> We have a list of people that we would take
> A bullet for them, a bullet for you
> A bullet for everybody in this room
> But I don't seem to see many bullets comin' through
> See many bullets comin' through
> Metaphorically, I'm the man
> But literally, I don't know what I'd do
So I suspect you're right. But I also suspect many people who see themselves as the "save the country" group would really be in the "save themselves" group, if push came to shove.
Less assholes to audit and fine me over stupid bullshit. Let them be underfunded.
The fact that I can't get passkeys to work like 10% of the time makes me think they're significantly more secure. If I can't use them to access my account, an attacker definitely won't be able to /s
You're trying to put rational on irrational emotions. The reason people are so anti datacenter is because their favorite news site / social media told them to be anti datacenter. You're giving way too much credit to sheep's ability to think.
It's not. At all.
If someone likes digging tunnels by hand, that's a hobby.
If someone is mad that tunneling companies make it hard for them to find "hand tunneling work", that's not a hobby. That's someone thinking their work is owed attention.
Go find a hobby that you like doing for yourself. Why do you think so many engineers turn to woodworking? It isn't because they think they're going to compete with Ikea.
This is brought up in every single thread about fonts that have code ligatures. So no, of course it isn't just you.
Meta isn't trying to overthrow the government in Brazil. Anyone who says otherwise is being hyperbolic, as I said before.
The fact that you just reply "Brazil." as if that Meta is trying to overthrow the Brazilian government shows a lack of critical thinking.
> seems like the most "moral" AI company on the surface
Not to me at all. Exactly the opposite. Anthropic seems like the big-bad-evil company in every fictional universe. You're right that they're so unsettling.
Obviously nobody really loves Meta, but I'd far rather Meta "win" at this point than Anthropic.
Canva now owns Affinity. So regardless of the answer to that question, more options are nice. I have 0 faith that Canva will be good stewards of Affinitys original mission, despite making all of the Affinity products free (for now)
Can someone more familiar explain the end goal?
Would a website want you to have to use Apple Passwords to guarantee that the account you're creating is connected to an Apple account, and thus making it more likely that you're a real, non-anonymous human?
edit: Why not just require "Sign in with Apple/Google" if that's the goal?
I'm confused.. are you suggesting that Claude Code / Codex don't work? Because if you're still saying that in October 2026, it's a you problem. You're doing something wrong.
