It's like the Hyperloop all over again.
Musk comes up with a crazy idea.
Investors, "analysts" and sycophants go to great lengths to defend it.
Rational people wonder if everyone is losing their mind.
Musk profits.
Everything is possible. Doesn't mean you should do it. You can also put datacenters on the sea floor in a nuclear submarine. That might be even easier.
But does it make sense to do it?
No.
A single EMP would be enough without causing excessive space debris. It's not like someone will simply fly in and swap some hardware.
"Stop resisting" "Look what you made me do" "Dragging this out makes atrocious behaviour inevitable"
Ever heard of Game Theory?
Trump sucks at it. And by the looks of it, you're not very good either.
Hunger also reduces my ability to do hard things. But like most things in life, it’s not permanent.
> As if European companies are any better.
My Hetzner customer experience is 10x better than AWS.
> Have you tried getting customer service from any European ISP for example
Yes and they're awesome. The even helped me get my non-supported Ubiquiti router on their WAN.
I never quite understood who made those menus. I think 95% of them were absolutely hideous, just like early webdesign.
Ah, national security. The end-all argument all Americans fall for.
How did Claude and OpenAI make the USA safer?
Like Sam Altman, you seem convinced AI is a winner takes all kind off technology. Can you explain why?
> Europe needs a lot of these.
Europe needs profitable AI companies, not money pits.
Less and less work requires a frontier model though.
Now do per working hour, including benefits.
Invest in proper education first. The USA has been dropping the ball consistently over the last decades.
Yet how often is the efficiency of Javascript a talking point in main stream media? Or the quality of the ceiling fans on Amazon?
It's always strange to me how many people have an opinion on the produce of farmers. If other products were looked a through the same lens, 90% of all products on Amazon should be removed, Social Media shouldn't exist and Javascript was never used for development.
> without being used.
If it cools the plants and the ground through evaporation, it's used as effectively as a datacenter.
On the flipside, it also leads to better software.
So the prompt was probably something like: build me x using Tesseract.
That doesn’t say anything about taking care of your body though. A better part of my family works construction and it’s only the uncle that smokes, thinks proper posture is for wimps and lives off microwave pizza that constantly complains about his joints.
I grew up on a farm. I don’t care what the author says, manual labor is very rewarding. I built my own office, carport, horse stable, chicken coop and many other projects in the evenings after already exhausting work, and if I could make more in construction, I’d pick that over an office job any day of the week.
If you take good care of your body and health, it doesn’t have to be as bad as you think. But a lot of tradies think eating healthy, stretching, eye protection, gloves, etc. are “gayyyyy”.
No thanks. No more US based infrastructure for me.
> Things are never quite going to get there.
Nothing in life is ever perfect. Doesn't mean imperfect stuff can't have a lot of impact.
Ironically, the LWN website's look and feel (and the reasoning behind it) perfectly illustrates why this project is doomed.
> "How many branding mistakes do you want to make?"
"All of them"
Stop thinking as an employee. Start selling products and features.
How many companies depend on perfect code?
People aren't seeing the forest through the trees.
While lots of developers, journalists, analysts, investors and influencers are bickering about AGI, goalposts, benchmarks, hypes and fears, entire markets are being transformed silently and steadily.
I don't program anymore. (Massive change)
I removed tons of technical debt (Massive change, lol)
I am easily 10x more productive (Massive change)
The quality of 'my' code is easily 10x better and contains less bugs (I was never principled, pedantic or a guru, lol)
I sleep better and I also make more money as a result. I'm constantly amazed by all changes and improvements. There are so many opportunities to profit from this that I can't be bothered with discussions about hypotheticals.
They're not needed. And there are bad designers everywhere.
And I know HN people think marketing is a bad word.
But marketeers know that design is part of the messaging. And nowadays, having clear AI tells in your design shouts "I made this in an afternoon, so don't take this seriously"
First impressions are everything in a world where attention spans are shortened every year.
Act accordingly.
