Cars also suck and we’d be better off if our cities were t designed around them

Democratic politicians are the ones that could remove the speaker, not voters.
People wanted it, the protests were historically big. It’s billionaires, the politicians they buy, and the people influenced by the media they own that are opposed.
Ok sure, not in the eyes of the law. But ethically
If you think the only point of art is to serve a functional purpose, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree
I didn’t say you had to.

And machine screws are a lot less art that art is, obviously, so I don’t think that comparison helps your case. Screws are the code equivalent in the analogy.

I argue that while it is possible to direct AI to implement your artistic gameplay idea faithfully, it is not possible to direct AI towards an artistic vision without losing a lot in the handling of the details.

There’s no right vs wrong, for art the details Are the fun part.

I’m enough of a sucker to think that there’s art in code as well (not just the game design but implementation too) but clearly less and it’s not nearly as visible.

Art is more artistic, it’s more of an expression of human ideas.

I don’t want AI either but I find AI art more offensive

I find it hard to imagine that it would be possible to be less ethical than the US labs.

This fear mongering doesn’t scare me

Hey no totally I agree, 15/sandwich is so much more than I remember and 12/drink is nuts. With inflation and cost of living here it’s like double what I remember from 2018 ‘burbs. I’m not trying to say it’s necessarily cheap.

But as someone lucky enough to be able to eat out almost every day at a variety of restaurants I have no trouble staying under 35/person without drinks. That place is not an outlier.

And like, fancy cocktails are nice but I don’t think you can say that it’s impossible to go out and do anything without spending $500 like OP claimed.

The nice Indian place next to me in Seattle is 24 for a curry & 8 for a side.

I’m Spencer Fleming and I approve this message
Yeah, if you’re getting three drinks each and an uber sure. I don’t think it’s an insane amount to spend.

It was framed as ‘Every Activity’ costs that much though which is just not true.

Those are the exact two I’ve lived in actually
Dinner + tip is not $200, parking is not $50, I live in a city lol
The super rich control the democrats too, I wouldn’t expect very much to change. They will focus on moving forwards not back, charge a few low level guys, and revert ~10-20% of what Trump has done.
HarmonyOS NEXT released 2024 is a fully original kernel, the first version was off label android
I put about as much creative thought into this comment as they did their prompt
And of course that the end result is that the smarmiest folks on earth get to make the ‘my life becomes worse’ machine
I wouldn’t call the electricity use negligible, some of the newer data centers are looking at the same energy usage as small countries and run off fossil fuel
The filibuster exists as a convenient excuse to not do anything without offending constituents
Re:The Board Game of the Alpha Nerds (2014) on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:53PM (#49837209)
I can’t play it with people I know, after genuinely upsetting some friends in a backstab. With strangers meeting only for the game it feels a lot more expected and less personal
Re:Meta VR Glasses on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:04PM (#49824889)
No, talking into a phone feels more natural than talking to nothing in particular
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:56PM (#49790832)
AI is a massive contributor to climate change lol
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:27PM (#49789441)
What gets me is that I haven’t heard a reasonable explanation of exactly what the AI will do besides: nukes and biolabs we already have

& ofc AI is making climate change worse, some of the Amazon datacenters are using fossil fuels to generate a country’s worth of power, but that’s never part of their calculations

Re:Don't Use AI to Write on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:19PM (#49789315)
They are much worse at citing sources compared to search engines
Re:Good people refuse to do bad things on Monday September 21, 2026 @12:18PM (#49789292)
I’m well aware tech companies are evil and yet work at one.

My current read is that ~20-30% of people in America actively delight in hurting others (ICE supporters etc)

Another 30% do not seem to care about anything but their own well-being. (I don’t like to think I fall here but as a big tech peon it doesn’t look good).

The remaining percent seem to care and are trying their best but looking at how things are going it’s not enough

Not to be tooo pedantic, but a bot that assigned 0 confidence to everything wouldn’t hallucinate.

A calculator either gets the right answer or doesn’t answer.

It wouldn’t have to be all knowing as long as it knew perfectly what it doesn’t know

Yes if you don’t mind getting arrested by our fascist border police
