Re:Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews' on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:04PM (#50307833)
I’ve been using Fastmail for years. I haven’t seen any AI fluff yet…
Re:Tesla Roadster on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:08PM (#50112994)
That’s why it’s invite only.
Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Monday September 21, 2026 @07:04PM (#49794619)
I’ve been away. Does anyone have a collection of these posts?
Re:We let AIs run radio stations on Monday May 18, 2026 @03:54PM (#48184685)
What a waste. I’ve been away from HN for a while.. and I’m not sure I want to come back.
Very nice! At first the buttons didn’t do anything and I thought it was not mobile friendly. I quickly realized I was in a browser with JS disabled.

Maybe add some error handling around that?

What is illegal?
Re:Elon Musk reportedly diverted AI chips from Tesla to X on Tuesday June 04, 2024 @01:35PM (#40577003)
It’s mostly symbolic so not sure if it will change anything immediately . Going to be tied up in the courts for a while, I suspect.
Me, myself, and I.
Re:Apple introduces M4 chip on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @10:43AM (#40286113)
In the video event, Tim mentions more updates at WWDC next month - I suspect we will see a M4 MacBook Pro then.
The ball just falls off and then endlessly falls through space…
You just increment the month. March 20 m+1 is April 20.

If the date is invalid, like January 30 m+1 then you fallback to next valid date, February 28/29.

I found the demo a bit underwhelming, if only because it was guided. However I must admit the scene on the mountain, in front of the piano, and on the football pitch were amazing.

If that is the future of content, sign me up.

I got a used LEAF a few months ago, it’s got a new battery. Perfect fit for my urban driving. FWIW I’ve been using it only with 120V at home, and the occasional level 2 charge at work without issue.
As a Canadian who has ideas of building an off grid cabin in the woods, what would be a more meaningful life?

The stereotypical poor American working menial jobs into their senior years without affordable healthcare doesn’t sound much better…

Re:ICJ Orders Israel to Prevent Genocide Without Cease-Fire on Friday January 26, 2024 @02:08PM (#39146662)
Said terrorists will just melt into the general population and walk out with them, and then return with them and repeat the next cycle.
Re:Queues don't fix overload (2014) on Thursday January 18, 2024 @09:43AM (#39042222)
This is fitting. I just spent 99 minutes trying to register my kid for summer camps. Eventually got a “payment has been processed redirecting to receipt” message… which errored out.
Re:Changes we're making to Google Assistant on Friday January 12, 2024 @02:08PM (#38972462)
I do this on my HomePod mini all the time. Take last apple out of fridge? “Siri, add apples to my grocery list.”

Boom, done. Synced with my wife too. This is using the Apple Reminders though, as it seems to have less friction than third party apps…

Re:What Happened to EVs? on Thursday January 04, 2024 @02:23PM (#38871120)
Indeed. All I need to know about gas is that I paid $50 this morning for ~450km of range. While my EV would take multiple charges to get that range, the total cost would be only a few dollars.
Re:You've just been fucked by psyops [video] on Sunday December 31, 2023 @07:03AM (#38823477)
How is this wild speculation? I just tried MS Copilot app, and after the very first question it inserted some ads relevant to the question.

We know product placement has been a round for decades.

I am flabbergasted that you think it’s wild speculation it would appear in the next round of tech.

Re:Beeper Mini is back on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @06:28AM (#38625803)
If you know you want to send an SMS you can tap it right after you press send, there’s a small grace period. I just did it.
Re:I Talk to Strangers on Tuesday November 14, 2023 @11:36AM (#38265613)
While I do enjoy the digital kiosk for efficiency; they are limited in what they can do.

Example from moments ago: my phone carrier is offering extra data - but when I tried to add it to my account online it said it was for new customers only.

I called customer service, asked politely and the agent was more than happy to oblige.

Sometimes, especially in edge cases, having a human work around the system on your behalf yields the most benefits.

Re:Apple Investors Already Hate the New iPhone 15 on Thursday September 14, 2023 @12:51PM (#37511436)
The ecosystem “just works”. I don’t have to fight and configure things to work. I haven’t used an Android device since 2015 but is there any compelling feature (on either side) to sway someone one way or another.

I’ve never understood why anyone would prefer to live in the ecosystem of the world’s largest advertiser.

Re:UK air traffic control outage caused by bad data in flight plan on Wednesday September 06, 2023 @09:49AM (#37405106)
My current project involves processing flight plans. I believe the company even helped build part of NATS. There must be something else going on to crash the whole system.

We get so many invalid flight plans from third parties (e.g., ForeFlight) that the system would never be up if we didn’t mark them as invalid and move on to the next.

Re:Organic Maps on Friday September 01, 2023 @07:52AM (#37349593)
Been using this since last time it was posted on HN. Great little app that complements Apple Maps with offline mode and random stuff like water fountains. Only thing I would want them to improve is the color scheme when used with CarPlay, I don’t know why but one of the day/night color schemes is almost impossible to read.
Despite using Vuetify daily at my employer I didn’t recognize it, thought it was Tailwind. That’s a good thing!

I assume you are on version 3 of Vue and Vuetify? Did you have any trouble upgrading if you started on v2?

Haha, looks like I’m going bankrupt a few years after retirement :(

Or I hope it’s just a bug… the cash flow chart lists “House” with something that looks like my mortgage amount. But then, it also lists mortgage payment separately. Is it double counting it?

Edit: oooh, the house as its own expenses within its asset. Like taxes and maintenance. This makes more sense…

That’s odd.. I just signed up for the trial and got this:

> We won’t charge you during the free trial. Once it ends, your subscription will renew at $15.82 unless you cancel

Thank you. As a shell amateur I was having trouble wrapping my head around the original description.
