Thanks for sharing this and interesting as it shows a sad trend at the moment.
Re:Ask HN: Should I remove work experience from resume? on Sunday July 07, 2024 @03:57PM (#40900016)
Dont think about your age if someone is looking for experience they will contact you. Yes the market is slow right now but you are not a junior. I just went through the same process 6 months ago.

What gave good results for me was cutting down my resume to 1 page and highlight the important parts of my career.

Think of it like a one-pager for a startup pitch, but you are the company.

This is not a new problem, as they have been starved of high-end semiconductors for years already. However, catching up to the knowledge that ASML and Zeiss have regarding lithography machines is not an easy task to overcome.

Because they don't decide this on their own. A smart CEO gets board approval before going on a hiring spree, so afterwards, if the CFO shows a negative forecast, everyone can go, 'Oh, who could have seen this?'

CEOs get fired if the board loses trust in their abilities.

And why not buy server grade ssd`s from ebay?

You can get them new at the same price point only caveat that you need a motherboard that supports bifurcation.

Re:The Midwit Smart Home on Thursday October 12, 2023 @01:39PM (#37860327)
If you have access to it in your area, consider looking into KNX for home automation and DALI for lighting. Both are BUS systems that you wire throughout your house, and they are very reliable. They are commonly used in hotels, schools, etc. It might be a bit more expensive and require pre-planning, but these systems have been around for decades in Europe. Plus, you'll be adhering to a standard, not bound to a specific company

Re:TSMC, Bosch, Infineon, and NXP to build fab in Germany on Tuesday August 08, 2023 @08:05AM (#37047694)
Just out of curiosity how hard would it be to re-fit such a foundary to modern <5nm cpu fabs with ASML/Zeiss directly around the corner.

Just went through a sway install and its on the right path but still needs alot of work.

Alot of digging is needed to get nvidia accelerating / mouse cursor to work and performance is not comparable to X11 atm from my experience.

With there current sample its 0.89% SSD vs 1.39% HDD AFR but the SSD sample is to low atm.

Fragmentation at first and you hinder the first mover in this case OpenAI in sizing the market completely and later on you can acquire the necessary pieces to get back into the market or buy time to close the gap.

Current Microsoft strategy seems so push into this direction. Open Source certain technologies and acquire important pieces e.g. Github / Stake in OpenAI etc. to build a bigger picture that they can monetize later.

OpenAI is a real threat to Google & Facebook

It will be the first white collar job purge of our generation. There are so many jobs that now can be easily automated or compressed to a fraction of the workforce needed before. Everyone is a prompt engineer now.

Think goverment / banking / insurrance / big companies

Every workload that is based around consent or rules will be impacted.

Even as a developer my leverage for certain task just went up by a huge margin.

KNX as Cabled Smart Home which talks to the DALI-Bus via a KNX-Dali-Gateway. And Home Assistant will control the dimming and light temperature via KNX.
Re:F.lux, but for Your House on Monday November 07, 2022 @06:29PM (#33514031)
Currently doing this for my new home.

Using DALI as control-bus for our lights with products from Kiteo for tunable white they can go from 1.8k-16k with an CRI > 90 and be dimmable from 1%-100% as added benefit they can display the full RGB level aswell.

HCL is a very niche topic for residential lightning and certainly more expensiv than going with Hue but im betting that high quality HCL will improve our lives especially during winter seasons.

Oh wow. This sums up what’s wrong with our growing individualism where it’s only me me me.

The goal should be to strive as a society not everyone can be a doctor, lawyer or investment banker.

And education and healthcare are prime examples where we have to pay the tab together.

Question is what you want to learn exactly?

Setting up only the cluster? - Start by porting your local setup to a local k8 (minikube etc.)

And i would suggest to invest some time into terraform to setup everything the way you want it.

With our findings, we prove that SEV cannot adequately protect confidential data in cloud environments from insider attackers, such as rouge administrators, on currently available CPUs.

---

It is an interesting attack but is the above goal ever achievable? To protect against adversaries from the inside.

One reason they dont give up citizenship is that you are "declared" death and the IRS will come an collect there share. It can become quite expensiv for expats.
Re:Flutter 2 on Thursday March 04, 2021 @02:14AM (#26339589)
Very interessting that i`m on the opposite side of many comments.

For the startup we just founded i was able to crank out a mobile app in less then 3 months without prior mobile or dart experience. Its fast and just works from day one. Certainly something i can recommend for every Fullstack Dev out there who wants to add mobile to his portfolio as 95% of all apps can easily be done in flutter.

The widget aproach for mobile is fantastic cant say it will work the same on the web but certainly on the desktop.

One thing flutter needs is time, that certain champions will be chosen by the comunity (state managment etc.) - see react

But is has a vibing ecosystem that especially empoweres people outside the western world to create beautifully widgets.

Re:TailwindCSS v2.0 on Wednesday November 18, 2020 @02:45PM (#25141490)
Probably the best invention i added to my tool belt for a long time.

Never was i able to move so quickly to style components in a way that works and you only have to learn one set of keywords. Reminds me a little bit of vim learn once apply everywhere :).

Props to the creators of tailwind !

Re:Try Linux on Monday May 25, 2020 @09:18AM (#23300703)
Went the same route with WSL2 as nearly everything i need for my daily programming tasks just works and having windows just an alt+tab away for games / office etc. makes it more pleasant to use.

Maybe i`m just getting old and dual booting etc. isn`t my thing anymore but i don`t see myself setting up another distro anytime soon after 20 years.

WSL2 for me is the arrival of the Linux desktop.

Re:Japan to subsidize 100% of salaries at small companies on Sunday April 26, 2020 @08:05AM (#22986533)
> Bankruptcies aren't that bad - usually companies are not dissolved, but go through restructuring and gain a new management team (which one, knowing there is no bailout in the future, will plan better for emergencies like this one).

That is what i was thinking lately too. We have bankruptcy procedures for a reason, big companies wont disappear they will be restructured and continue to exist and shareholders can decided with their pockets if they want to refinance a certain business. Going back to its intended way that "shareholder value" is a two way street. It cant always be sunny.

Changing the incentive structure would benefit us all.

And probably the best thing to get everything back on track is pumping money through the population and not single big entities.

Re:Vanmoof S3 E-bike Review on Tuesday April 21, 2020 @11:13AM (#22935609)
Maybe take a look at this one http://desiknio.com/ But don`t know if you can get them in the US.
Did the same. Just that i use emacs with x410. Only gripe I have at the moment that docker eats up a lot of memory. But everything else works perfectly fine. Was quite surprised and happy.
Look at the ECB they are buying stocks for quite some time now.

Re:Elon Musk sub 'impractical', won't be used on Tuesday July 10, 2018 @05:22AM (#17496485)
Musk is a "technology can save problems"-guy and his team got something done in a short amount of time.

With all his involvements in the past years he likes to tackle complicated technical problems (SpaceX) or use modern technology to disrupt a segment (Tesla/Powergrid/Hyperloop).

CDPR the old Blizzard looking forward to this.
The problem is not collecting its connecting the data with users who did not give permission.

The social graph should be one way not two-way and unrelated data should be discarded.

Like in the post we had a few days ago where someone exported his Facebook data and got call histories from his mother in his data.

Re:The problem with Facebook on Thursday March 22, 2018 @12:32PM (#16650159)
For the discussion we have to decouple that he works for Google.

But he is right we are at a crossroad and the path that will be taken is clear for me. Manipulating/controlling populations is where the money will go and people will create those tools because those jobs pay well, its that simple.

In the next elections we will see deepfakes videos of candidates instantly responding to problems or defaming videos will be put out were you cant judge on the spot if its real or not. The trend of echo chambers will continue as we see it right now.

The only thing i can see is education if we look back at the recent history going from only a certain amount of people can who read/write or have access to books to everyone has to learn and has access to libraries. This is the next level.

And on the other side we have to fight for our right of privacy and kill some business models on the way. Right now this is for me on the same scale as Atomic / Chemical Weapons.

Re:Airbnb’s Battle to Stay Private on Wednesday February 07, 2018 @04:20AM (#16323212)
Its a solid route to take if the market goes south the states have to intervene as they did in 2008. Privatize profits socialize loses.
