Re:Apricot Computers: An underrated British brand on Friday July 03, 2026 @08:51AM (#48774413)
me too! In the pc business from 1981!, Apricots were great bits of kit. The GRIDs were good but very expensive at the time.
antivax or anti experimental-covid-vax? There is a difference.
UK: my wife handled a baby bat a couple of weeks ago that was found in a airbnb/hotel in the Lake District. No bites from it. This popped up in her newsfeed last night..... she is now at the hospital getting rabies shots (no symptoms luckily). The medical staff are treating it very seriously!
It is not about "protecting the kids". This statement is attached to every process that the government wants to roll out that is normally unacceptable to the population.

It is about monitoring and identifying all members of the public - "prove that you are over 16" creates a profile about you that they can track and use.

There is a lot of Whataboutery in the comments.
Re:New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @12:52PM (#48195913)

I have a G6 uk licence that I took after being almost busted for CBs (in the old days) and all my radios have been packed up and in the garage for decades. Computers/BBS/Internet took over. I enjoyed the tech side of the hobby rather than the convo.
Maybe the CEOs do not realise that their workers are achieving great productivity, completing their tasks in 1 hour instead of 8, and spending time on the beach, rather than at their desks?
watched it many times - one of the best series on this subject.
control ai or be controlled by it.

Learn everything that you can about AI and you will be a great resource. Otherwise, learn a trade. Electricians will be required...........

Re:In Europe, Wind and Solar Overtake Fossil Fuels on Thursday January 22, 2026 @10:53AM (#46720919)
The UK has some of the highest energy costs in the world due to the stupid Net Zero taxes. Our economy and manufacturing is suffering.

And don't forget the Nascom 1 and 2 (everyone has unfortunately)

Keir Starmer is a joke. Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary is a bad joke. Lammy, as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is a really silly joke. How can the world treat us seriously????
Re:BBC staff: we're forced to do pro-Israel PR on Tuesday July 08, 2025 @08:44AM (#44499431)
The BBC recently showed a documentary that was pro-Palestinian and factually wrong. They also paid Hamas affiliates and relations to star in it. I have no idea where the "BBC are pro-Israel" thoughts come from but as a brit - I don't see it.
more than the covid jab?
Re:What Actually Happens at the End of 'Trading Places'? on Wednesday April 30, 2025 @04:41AM (#43842629)
"One interesting kicker to the story: Trading commodities on inside information obtained from the government wasn't actually illegal when the movie came out, but it's illegal now. It was banned in the 2010 finance-overhaul law, under a special provision often referred to as the Eddie Murphy Rule."

Why aren't most of the democrats in jail, then? - How did they make their fortunes on their lifetime government salaries?

Do you think that the expenditure was not correctly described on the system, hence the "cancellation"?
