That's not the service Google or Apple have ever offered Parler.
The website is still accessible, right?
Apple doesn’t censor Safari.
Hitler’s words matter for the sake of history but I don’t have to sell them in my book store.
The mainstream media refuses to take them seriously? Fox News’ ad revenues beg to differ.
They have absolutely not wanted to ban him since day 1. He brings in millions of users and clicks.
And that's fine! It doesn't depend on that core network. Make your own. That's what open source is for!
All, Signal is a 501c3 nonprofit. Your company probably matches donations. If they don't, they are eligible to be added to your company's portal. I encourage you to throw some of your wealth their way and take the extra step to get matching. This is important.
I'm sure it is faster to use your hand. But I'm not sure faster is the right metric. Safety is probably higher on my list, and I'd say voice commands are safer than taking your hand off the wheel for any reason.
Yes, it’s brought out as a negative because those companies are actively using that data to influence your behavior and serve you ads. Apple does not do this.
Out of curiosity, did you ever try the voice commands in the Tesla? I'm used to these systems being garbage, but Tesla's is quite good. I've moved to using it entirely while driving, even using auto-pilot.
I enjoyed Simple for their amazing app, but in the end found that the 1 or 2 times a year I sold something for cash on Craigslist meant I always needed a branch. So I gave up and moved to a credit union.
There is a middle ground between taking your ball and going home and playing by the new rules without complaint.
Adding another app — my vote goes to Signal - and making a lot of noise on WhatsApp is one option. If I recall correctly, WhatsApp has statuses. Changing yours to “Keeping WhatsApp for business transactions only — find me on Signal for private chat” is one idea. The people on this board have the power to move their friends away from terrible software. Use it.
Note that "indefinitely" here doesn't mean they haven't considered when to bring him back:
"Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete."
The information you put in parenthesis immediately rules it out for 99% of users. I can count on one hand the number of my family members who have any concept for what that information means.
This is some mafia shit. They're holding users data hostage behind a click-through acceptance of their altered terms. You can either pray they don't alter the deal further, or get the fuck out, abandoning your chat history and social connections.
Your point still stands, but a better comparison I think is cash on hand, since valuation doesn’t mean much in terms of paying fines. You can’t pay the government in stock.
LYV had $2.6b on hand last quarter.
Conspiracy mongering? No. The article contends there is no conspiracy here, only the possibility of an accident that, projected through the lens politics, has become too toxic to discuss out in the open. Time will tell.
“We also use suppliers such as social media companies and search engines in order to advertise the launch of our Services. We may share your email address or device ID with these suppliers.”
I will not get this card because their privacy policy does not align with my values.
Right, it seems like the point isn’t “Targeted ads don’t work,” it’s “There are ways to fake ad targeting that fooled a major company.” Uber could benefit from legitimate ad targeting (assuming they haven’t hit market saturation), we just don’t know.
Should not developers then be expected to generate a certain return for Apple in terms of sales, or risk being removed from the store?
This is the real kicker. It seems very reasonable that any app that's getting a "change or else" letter ought to be flagged if Apple has featured it. That's basically a brand-endorsement from Apple, and it's in their best interest to white glove those.
Eh. Anything Apple does is giant megacorp against poor indie devs. The scenario you proposed would just turn into the headline “Apple begged us to kill our brand and we told them to fuck themselves” and pretty soon everyone wants a sit down with Tim Cook because they disagree philosophically with the rules.
It’s not clear, despite what it appears here, that the Twitter storm actually changed the outcome. This looks more like T1 support made a call that T2 reversed. Not unusual.
I can attest to a similar experience asking someone from China. The idea of being "happy with the government" implies there is something to do about being not happy with the government. It's a little like asking someone if they're happy with the position of the continents on the planet. Sure, you can wish that Australia were in the northern hemisphere, but that's sort of "besides the point." There is not a sense, in China, that any individual or group is in a position to seriously change how the government runs the country.
Asking companies not to retain PII is like asking a crack addict to please ignore the crack pipe and torch while you step out for an hour. The only solution is to make PII radioactive. Tax it. Burn companies that abuse it or leak it to the ground. HIPAA is a fucking nightmare but companies still figure it out:
Yes. This is surveillance capitalism taken to its extreme. Facebook didn’t invent it, they’re just doing it in a way that makes the consequences more difficult to ignore than Google, which has been able to largely sidestep the blowback by being mission critical to so many people and also having massive goodwill projects that don’t directly point to being profit driven.
It’s up to citizens of the US and EU to reign this in. We can hate the player but we gotta hate the game even more.
