i don't think LoC is the metric. sometimes fewer lines of code results in a larger attack surface through type coercion / widening, poor abstractions, hiding or stuffing behavior (modules that do everything), etc. to me, making code easy to understand, test, fuzz, and verify is more important. sometimes that requires more lines of code.

in a utopian future, addictions like that would be cured and siloed. hopefully, those with motivation to understand the mechanisms of human suffering would be in charge of policy.

it doesn't sound like you understand what you are doing?
Re:Steal My Bitcoin CTF PoC on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:22AM (#50241970)
in theory.

many common nginx setups and hardening suggestions would make it very difficult to exploit. as well as any sort of distributed architecture that doesn't pin requests to clients.

there could be other undiscovered paths to exploit this vulnerability though. the PoC here uses the disclosed path for exploiting on patch day, minus mod_php.

Re:Steal My Bitcoin CTF PoC on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:17AM (#50241554)
there are a number of php docker images. some are insecure by default.

many php setups sit behind nginx, caddy, or other webserver with a max body size limit.

anyone following OWASP / similar guidelines was probably okay here (for this particular PoC path), if not using apache/mod_php, i would think.

i understand the correlation of SUDs and ADHD. ADHD is also correlated with the population of adults in prison. it doesn't mean if your mother had ADHD you will end up in jail.
i am sorry that you have had a rough life, but using ADHD as a root cause for substance use disorder is confusing. ADHD is a behavioral phenotype that can arise from a number of different genotypes. it isn't one thing. also, i am not romanticizing anything. i was halfheartedly theorizing about selection pressures and ADHD.
i think you mean inheritable. you are right, in a way. ADHD as a disorder is a description of a disease state involving the medial temporal lobe and orbital front cortex of the human brain. you can acquire this disease state from environmental interaction.

in some forms, it will get worse as you age. that is especially true if you have environmental pressure, like alcohol use, lack of exercise, amphetamine use, etc.

those with ADHD tend to fuck up everything anyway. the only real cure is a "genetic" one. it is necessary to stop those risk taking behaviors that compound the initial disease state.

however if you cure risk taking, you fuck society and the economic progress of humanity. the disease state known as "ADHD" is a net positive for the whole, even if it isn't always a net positive for the individual. so, it is selected for, in terms of natural selection. though "artificial selection" (i think this term is meaningless, really it describes self-reflection, which is a normal trait.) allows for humans to pass this trait on much more often now, as humans have corrected many life-ending disease states that used to curb things like ADHD from being passed on.

then resist them. you are doing what you accuse others of doing, even though they aren't. you are demonizing those who take medication here. apparently, in light of this comment, in a form of transference of your anxieties. it might be useful to reflect on that.
it is a review of existing literature. maybe someone will attempt to explore those factors in the future.

from the paper:

"Future research should consider psychosocial and sociodemographic factors to understand how being female, being of a minoritized race or ethnicity, and having experienced childhood maltreatment may contribute to the risk of mortality in people with ADHD. More diverse and representative samples are needed to improve generalizability and to identify inclusive pathways for intervention. Subgroups of people with ADHD who experience the highest mortality risk should be examined to support informing of initiatives to reduce premature mortality in people with ADHD. Clinically, these findings underscore the importance of long-term, comprehensive care for individuals with ADHD, with particular attention to identifying and addressing modifiable factors that may contribute to excess mortality risk. The association between medication use and lower mortality also highlights the importance of equitable access to evidence-based ADHD assessment and treatment."

it makes no assertion like that.

what privileges?

Re:The Other Epidemic: Trying to get off benzodiazepines on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:31PM (#50174578)
i mean, it says it right on the sheet you get with the medication

"MISUSE OF CLONAZEPAM CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it. Never share clonazepam with another person. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.

Some people have thoughts about suicide while taking clonazepam. Tell your doctor right away if you have any sudden changes in mood or behavior, or thoughts about suicide.

Get medical help right away if you stop using clonazepam and have symptoms such as: unusual muscle movements, being more active or talkative, sudden and severe changes in mood or behavior, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, or thoughts about suicide.

Do not stop using clonazepam without asking your doctor. You may have life-threatening withdrawal symptoms if you stop using the medicine suddenly after long-term use. Some withdrawal symptoms may last up to 12 months or longer."

Re:The Other Epidemic: Trying to get off benzodiazepines on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:23PM (#50174525)
doesn't seem like great advice to take someone who is "feeling unstable" off a decade plus of benzodiazepine therapy to make them more stable. also, that was probably too aggressive of a taper for that long of use.
> because we're living in it

i don't see the correlation with current events. do you have a source that establishes this based on evidence?

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:07AM (#50114322)
i agree with the sentiment. i have felt suicidal on and off pretty much my whole life, but that is a very different feeling from those moments where you experience a drive to immediately end your life.

many years ago, i had similar experiences with seeing objects and feeling pulled to use them to end my life. the magnitude of desire to end my life was quite terrifying at times. its like i was completely okay with doing it because it was the only thing that mattered in the moment.

i had an attempt when i was in elementary school still. it was as if i couldn't stop myself from just hurting myself. it really was me grabbing something next to me and immediately and trying to use it to kill myself.

i wonder what causes that feeling when emotionally distressed. that is when you are most vulnerable to actually committing suicide i feel like, not the long bouts of contemplation. although, that leads to suicide commonly enough as well.

There are gazillion compliance laws, etc, but basic copyright laws commonly cover these things.

What API is that? It looks like you or the data broker are violating some NAR / MLS / State Compliance rules to me. You might want to look into those.

Re:Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:11AM (#50102533)
not universally. but you can get yourself some cool drugs in your 50s, and read some literature that makes you feel special. listen to some podcasts about how animal studies prove you'll live forever if you spend more on medical care and nutrition, etc. it might reinforce the ego enough to keep on keeping on.
