Which means once there is a way around kyc/aml all the institutions will adopt it
But you know the result will be recommendations for diet, exercise and statins so why not skip the tests and just do those?
It’s populism. The minute a big chunk of the voters face real pain you will hear cries for bailouts
yes and also movies have gotten worse (more poorly written)
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:11PM (#50171982)
This might be true but also ipadOS is a buggy mess and fails to even be a good walled garden
I cited 47 usc 302 in the grandparent, to which you responded “no” ( i was in error about it coming from 1934, which I acknowledged in a child comment)

The 2021 and 2019 laws are relevant because the FCC said they expanded the FCC “authorization power” in 47 usc 302a to include covered entities and national security threats, not just regulation over electromagnetic compatibility issues

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/47/302a

(b) Restrictions

No person shall manufacture, import, sell, offer for sale, or ship devices or home electronic equipment and systems, or use devices, which fail to comply with regulations promulgated pursuant to this section.

“We don’t know what dark matter is or how to directly measure it but this distant galaxy has none”

Ok then

Why doesn’t Apple allow you to use native screen sharing to control other Macs on the iPad??? it is enraging
Re:Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:48AM (#50166405)
Yeah, I’ve had a similar experience. Even the features of iPadOS that work are buggy. iPadOS is a nerfed buggy mess compared to macOS
yeah the 2019 act begin this odyssey, and the authority to regulate electronics imports is 47 USC 302 when Congress gave up their power to write down specific laws about electronics to appointed bureaucrats at the FCC back in 1934.

maybe he isn't malicious but he also doesn't seem to have a great deal of respect for the ownership and privacy of his customer's computers
Re:I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:29PM (#50125627)
because why should my electric light scheduler be in the business of inspecting my passwords and furthermore involving third parties in inspecting my passwords?
the FCC excludes regulating equipment that doesn't have a a clock above 9kHz but ebay doesn't know what that means
unfortunately the US decided a century ago that electronics should be regulated federally
the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 (47 USC 154 1601 ff) is one place, among others, that Congress gave the FCC the authority to make rules about importing and selling electronics

interesting that the crux of the Nix dispute was about how he wanted to self-modify the HA after install, and the crux of the current dispute is how HA should be able to scan your secrets and upload truncated hashes

It's not a good look taken together

Ok good luck with taking that attitude to the marketplace
Re:The top secret URSALA, RAQUEL, and FARRAH satellites on Monday October 05, 2026 @04:31PM (#49970264)
yeah by "illegal" i mean "there are many laws restricting who you are allowed to employ and with whom you are allowed to share nonpublic information"
Not only that but we have direct evidence from Fauci’s diary that his main concern was “modifying the narrative”
Re:Treachery in the Rodin Museum 3D Scan Verdict on Sunday October 04, 2026 @08:07AM (#49953184)
I think it harms the ego of the government workers to think they are effectively of lower status than a random citizen who can ask for them to account for themselves
Re:Treachery in the Rodin Museum 3D Scan Verdict on Sunday October 04, 2026 @08:06AM (#49953175)
I had the same experience. Museums really want to keep the pictures locked up. Profit and ego
Re:The top secret URSALA, RAQUEL, and FARRAH satellites on Thursday October 01, 2026 @08:15AM (#49920654)
This is because it is essentially illegal to work on proprietary VHF/UHF passive radar (you need a government license to talk about your work with foriegners) in the US due to itar laws

Re:RSA-896 on Sunday September 20, 2026 @12:12AM (#49772451)
kinda bearish for the data center rollouts if the spare compute can be used to solve math puzzles instead of training LLMs
Re:There's no point at which turning your brain off will work on Friday September 18, 2026 @02:56PM (#49758628)
You can farm without knowing how crops work and drive without knowing how engines work
If people can’t afford to pay for an accident then they should not be driving
Re:Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password? on Friday September 04, 2026 @04:23PM (#49569786)
Vagrancy is a crime in many places.

Vagrants and transients are often dangerous and mentally ill.

It is reasonable to use state violence to suppress crimes.

Using a metaphor about the control of dangerous animals being similar to the control of dangerous people is not extreme.

Re:Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password? on Thursday September 03, 2026 @08:14AM (#49548984)
Why is this extreme?
Re:A Beginner's Deep Dive Guide to Entra Passkeys on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @12:03PM (#49538319)
okay but on apple devices (for instance) I believe the private keys are stored in the icloud keychain, otherwise there would be no passkey portability between your apple devices
