Re:Chest CT Findings in Marijuana Smokers
on Friday November 18, 2022 @08:44AM (#33654509)
The study separates tobacco only and nonsmokers, but doesn't separate out marijuana only smokers. Maybe it is a little difficult for them to find pot smokers that don't smoke tobacco but isn't this a little dishonest?

Professional shyster making something like the Georgia guides tones or golden tablets to "discover" and then use as the basis of a religion, is the first thing that comes to mind.
Re:Ask HN: How did you stop drinking?
on Monday October 10, 2022 @10:59PM (#33158993)
What kicked off my now nearly four years without drinking was an initial four months of intensive breathing mindfulness exercises from thich nhat hanh's book and at least one hour a day on an encompassing project, in my case really learning some 555 timer circuits.

Re:On Being Sane in Insane Places (1973)
on Friday September 02, 2022 @12:02AM (#32686457)
The full article is available on scihub. There were some interesting bits about the pseudopatients being randomly given a lot of medication and flushing it along with many of the other patient. Another section mentioned that many of the patients could tell that the pseudopatients did not belong while the staff of the 1973 psychiatric hospitals could not.

Re:Ask HN: What exactly is a mindfulness meditation?
on Sunday July 03, 2022 @09:52AM (#31967695)
I'm not totally sure what you mean about meditation myth. I gain concrete mental and emotional benefits, noticed after sessions, and so I continue. I assume increasing this to more parts of my life will continue to do helpful things.

Yes. To me realizing this is the whole goal.

In the situations where you are supposed to manually sign and scan a printed out pdf, this way instead you can paste your signature with transparency onto it, reform as pdf and then make it looked scanned.

Not sure that's true. I and many others are willing to pay a premium to know the exact numbers on cannabanoids and whether or not there are pesticide residues. Also we care about quality. The Walmart of weed would do fine but not be the thing for everyone.

Re:I want a computer that I own

My approach to getting a computer I own has been influenced by the esolangs website and I am implementing a single instruction set computer using random ttl chips. I don't care that it won't run preexisting software. Networking will be implemented using hand-couriered one time pads.
