Re:Rust: low-level programming without the segfaults on Friday July 26, 2013 @06:57PM (#6111026)
What fun is a slide show without a talk?
Re:Turn your laptop into a NSA spying machine on Friday July 26, 2013 @07:20AM (#6107598)
Perhaps tangential, but is there any way to be certain whether the webcam light can be controlled by software?

I often wonder if my MBP camera is necessarily off just because the ominous little green light isn't shining.

I keep wishing that I could remotely control any of my devices from any other.
Re:Ask HN: OSX Screen Capture Software on Thursday July 18, 2013 @08:02AM (#6062977)
I recommend Screenflick if you need more options than Quicktime provides, along with Soundflower for capturing device audio output.

Re:Poll: What is your primary programming language? on Wednesday June 26, 2013 @11:46AM (#5946774)
Boo. Syntax inspired by Python. Fast, easily extensible compiler. All the power of .NET / Mono.

(But shitty website, and lots of confused kids on the Unity3D forum.)

Re:What is Microsoft smoking? on Thursday June 13, 2013 @11:04AM (#5874403)
I think .NET is pretty amazing (to have emerged out of Redmond, at least).
We are here. We are rich in resources, and an excellent source of protein.
I wonder what they taste like.

Re:Trends in modern programming language syntax on Friday May 17, 2013 @05:03PM (#5726680)
Right on. I would definitely constrain such a thing to a small subset of C++.
Re:Trends in modern programming language syntax on Friday May 17, 2013 @09:47AM (#5724271)
I wish someone would write a CoffeeScript for C++.
Re:Robot Finds Mysterious Spheres in Ancient Temple on Tuesday April 30, 2013 @05:19PM (#5634934)
Damn. Still no ancient aliens.
Re:Why do people fall in love with products? on Tuesday April 30, 2013 @05:10PM (#5634883)
Alright, what's a clampork?
Re:A robotic dragonfly with a wingspan of 63 cm on Friday March 29, 2013 @07:52AM (#5460272)
Festo is just fascinating. I feel like a child every time they produce a new video like this.
Doesn't it seem more plausible that someone just executed a prank with a sheet of plastic, and a myth grew up around it?
Oh yes, please.

Here are my first impressions from a brief test drive.

And possibly remove your foot.
Re:How To Make a Quick Buck on Thursday February 21, 2013 @07:38AM (#5257028)
I've heard a teddybear works pretty well in a pinch.

For me, the epiphany usually hits when I finally break down and decide to ask for help. I realize my cognitive blind spot while composing a message for a forum post or email.

It's always good to step back and acquire a fresh perspective.

Re:First impressions of Leap Motion on Thursday February 07, 2013 @09:26AM (#5182172)
Nice idea, but for good results the leap API would need to be integrated into the application.

Now blender, on the other hand, is ripe for experimentation.

Re:Netflix releases House of Cards on Saturday February 02, 2013 @12:14AM (#5155256)
The show is excellent, IMHO. Delightfully wicked and intriguing.
Re:Functional composition: from sine wave to Bach canon on Monday November 26, 2012 @09:43PM (#4835341)
Thanks. It turns out I enjoyed this very much, and though the syntax was a bit foreign it made a lot more sense than I expected.
Re:Functional composition: from sine wave to Bach canon on Monday November 26, 2012 @08:02AM (#4831748)
Is this useful for someone with no knowledge of functional programming languages? I'm certainly interested in the topic.

I recently spent some time learning [ChucK](http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu), and used it to generate sound effects for my game. After several unsatisfactory crops with audacity and other tools (bfxr, etc), I found it to be a real pleasure to do the task with a text editor and terminal instead. I'm happy with the result, but I think I'd like to continue learning audio programming.

Yet more reason to promote entomophagy.
Re:C++11 and Boost - Succinct like Python on Thursday November 01, 2012 @09:48AM (#4727444)
I keep wishing for this magical language to manifest, like a C++ compatible Boo. I only wish I were capable of building one myself.
Re:The Perfect Bacon Cooking Method on Sunday September 30, 2012 @01:25PM (#4593387)
I've recently taken to draping the strips over the rungs of the oven rack, and letting them drip into a foil-lined sheet pan.

I can't think of a better way. I strongly prefer to let the fat drip off.

+1
Re:Today's Samsung Galaxy S3 exploit as a Rack middleware on Tuesday September 25, 2012 @08:02PM (#4573473)
Why would you package this up for convenient deployment? Don't be a jackass. Take it down.
Re:Blit: a multitasking, windowed Unix GUI from 1982 on Wednesday August 29, 2012 @10:20AM (#4448625)
Agreed. I wish there was a way to get rid of all the chrome in OSX.
And 4: they also fade.

I've been wearing the same seven solid black polyester tees for the past year or so and I'm sold on them.
