Re:Anyone miss a flip phone with buttons? Anyone? on Thursday September 10, 2026 @07:43AM (#49642071)
I just miss the small iPhones from the past. I do not understand why there isn't sufficient demand.
Just wanted to say - hope things ease up soon. I'm a PM/PO too (7 years in), and my first 15 months in my current job also felt like total shit, for different reasons. Got better mostly because some good people joined the team. Not sure that's replicable for you, but honestly - do what's within your power, within reasonable limits, and try to switch off from work once you're home. Easier said than done, but try.

Also, being told to sell a modernization roadmap to customers while the team can't actually ship it isn't really a you problem. That's just a bad setup.

I'm in Slovakia but have a bit of a Swedish connection myself - studied there, speak alright Swedish, even made it to the last round for a PM job in Skövde once (didn't get it). Market's rough right now but your CV sounds solid, that'll turn.

Hope you find something better soon. Lycka till!

I am in the gambling industry. Online casinos often look for game mathematicians and sometimes even sportsbooks need mathematicians for price modelling.

If they are willing to pay you for it I think you are on the right track.
- the thwarted referendum in 1997 (https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referendum_na_Slovensku_v_roku...)

- the kidnapping of the president in 1995 (https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zavle%C4%8Denie_Michala_Kov%C3....)

- the still unpunished murder of Robert Remias ordered by the former prime minister Vladimir Meciar (https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B3bert_Remi%C3%A1%C5%A1)

- the still unpunished murder of the journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_J%C3%A1n_Kuciak) because he was exposing the crimes of one of the oligarch / white-collar mafioso running the country Marian Kocner

- "Kauza Gorila" - a massive leak of documents and audio recordings revealing how the people running the country systematically steal billions of euro (https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kauza_Gorila) - the money is missing in education, health, public infrastructure etc.

- the party in power called SMER is created and controlled by former prominent communists (Jaroslav Hascak, Juraj Siroky, Alojz Lorenc, Jozef Brhel, Vladimir Poor, Miroslav Vyboh, Norbert Bodor)... some of these people studied in Russia and to this day use Russian methods (https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskovskij_gosudarstvennyj_ins...)

- Special Prosecutor's Office investigating the crimes of the oligarchs was cancelled last week, a number of key positions in police, justice etc. are now held by white-collar criminals (some of them stull under investigation)

- 50% of the population is extremely susceptible to Russian propaganda which is very prominent here

And there more, tons more in fact. I am sure as hell I am getting the f*ck out of here as soon as I can before our transition into Belarus is completed.

Are your parents still alive and in Russia? Is it easy for you to leave them?

I would leave my rotting country (Slovakia) in a heartbeat if it wasn't for my old parents. I have a decent salary here but I'd gladly take a pay cut to live in a proper Western country.

The seeds of WW3 will continue to grow.
Slightly more expensive than $50, but IKEA's WiFi bookshelf speaker Symfonisk (in collaboration with Sonos).

I have been listening to foreign radio stations and my language skills have gone up considerably.

Going to work.

The Boltzmann brain hypothesis suggests that it would be more likely for a single brain to spontaneously and briefly form in a void (complete with a memory of having existed in our universe) rather than for the universe to come about in the manner cosmologists think it actually did.

In this physics thought experiment, a Boltzmann brain is a fully formed brain, complete with memories of a full human life in our universe, that arises due to extremely rare random fluctuations out of a state of thermodynamic equilibrium. Theoretically, over an extremely large but not infinite amount of time, by sheer chance, atoms in a void could spontaneously come together in such a way as to assemble a functioning human brain. Like any brain in such circumstances (the hostile vacuum of space with no blood supply or body), it would almost immediately stop functioning and begin to deteriorate.

By one calculation, a Boltzmann brain would appear as a quantum fluctuation in the vacuum after a time interval of 10^10^50 years. This fluctuation can occur even in a true Minkowski vacuum (a flat spacetime vacuum lacking vacuum energy). Quantum mechanics heavily favors smaller fluctuations that "borrow" the least amount of energy from the vacuum. Typically, a quantum Boltzmann brain would suddenly appear from the vacuum (alongside an equivalent amount of virtual antimatter), remain only long enough to have a single coherent thought or observation, and then disappear into the vacuum as suddenly as it appeared. Such a brain is completely self-contained, and can never radiate energy out to infinity.

This politician and troll most likely paid by Russia has been spewing agressive, sickening Kremin propaganda for years, several times a day:

And Facebook does nothing.

Did you mean "mean" or "meant"? ;)
Re:Ask HN: What's Russia's Endgame in Ukraine? on Monday January 24, 2022 @04:32PM (#30064341)
I actually agree with that. I think Europe should strive to meet its 2% spending commitment. There have been talks about a joint European army as well. I am no expert in these matters but I am of the impression that Europe should be more committed to defending itself.

>To be honest, I don't think Russia is in the wrong here, there is no real reason why Americans should even be involved with this country right up on the Russian border. How would Americans feel if we lost the cold war and Russia started trying to dominate Mexico and Canada?

As a former citizen of Czechoslovakia I could not disagree more. Our countries are still recovering from decades of communism and Russian "help" and to this day Russia tries to exert influence over us. I hope Ukraine joins NATO one day.

Did you learn a specific framework? What resources did you find most helpful?

I am a product owner with little technical background and I am considering doing the same as you, Django to be specific.

Thanks. That is the plan, considering learning Django at the moment (I have some minor PHP and Flask experience).

Would it be possible to follow your progress somehow?
I'd start by removing the definite and indefinite article from all languages. Would help writing too.
Not sure if small but less work (for less money, I'm fine with that).

Re:Ask HN: Is there any iPhone SE first gen -sized phone? on Tuesday November 03, 2020 @12:42PM (#24981909)
You're definitely not the only one wanting this. I hadn't been able to find anything either so went I for iPhone SE (2020). Not happy with the size though.
