"ghosting" just means ending all interaction without warning. not necessarily in the context of a relationship. one can ghost a job, a friend, or even someone selling things on craigslist.

"He ghosted me after finding out I have kids."

do you have a source on that?
Re:“Why I cancelled my ReactiveConf talk” on Sunday November 05, 2017 @12:14PM (#15630336)
ok. people can be offended by things that weren't intended to offend them. this does happen from time to time.

buy why would the speaker withdraw instead of contacting the event organizers? if it bothered her, she wouldn't necessarily have to go into any detail as to why she found it offensive. she should just chew them out for this debacle and threaten to withdraw if they don't alter the image.

this whole thing seems like a poor choice by the event organizers, followed by a poor reaction from a speaker, which led to a poor response from the organizers.

you aren't automatically "right" just because the other guy is wrong.

my speculation is that these talks are specifically in regard to tracking some biometric that the current line of apple watches doesn’t yet have sensors for.
they said 1 gig symmetrical
maybe we need to re-evaluate free speech protections to bring them into alignment with today’s world, where certain corporations can be (arguably) more powerful than governments
google glass wasn’t really AR the same way that arkit is.

glass was more of a novelty camera you wore on your face. it was extremely unfashionable, and quickly became associated with “people trying to record you” and invasion of privacy in general.

i think if apple releases some kind of headset, it will look more like regular eyewear. it will also unquestionably be for augmented reality. society probably won’t conflate it with someone trying to snap candid shots like glass.

Re:How the Oil Pipeline Began on Saturday July 08, 2017 @05:57PM (#14727385)
that is incredibly interesting. do you have a source for more reading?
are you so upset by point 2 that you forgot point 3?

some people seem to think that apple is in the business of personally catering to their every whim.

i totally get why you wouldn’t like the touch bar, but you don’t have to buy that model. in fact, you don’t have to buy a macbook at all.

it’s also pretty astonishing to me how many people vehemently hate this thing they’ve never even tried to use.

hot air balloons use hot air (which is less dense than cool air) not helium.

they are open by design, unlike dirigibles. hot air balloons increase altitude by adding more hot air via a burner, and decrease altitude by letting the air diffuse out through holes in the top of the balloon.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here
thanks for the measured response. this is the kind of comment i've come to expect from HN. it adds to the conversation.

the other responses on this story are surprising to me. they seem to be on the intellectual level of reddit/facebook.

Re:Leaving Apple Inc on Friday May 05, 2017 @12:51AM (#14271179)
not in the bay area, but a US startup where i once worked found quite a few candidates by scouring stackoverflow and contacting people who consistently gave valuable responses.
you might think thats a fun idea, but what happens when 4chan decides to draw a giant penis on the moon with rover tracks?

Re:Why There Are No New Social Networks on Friday April 14, 2017 @02:45PM (#14116278)
how can a piece like this not even mention reddit?

admittedly, its not as popular as facebook, but it seems to be a 'newer' paradigm of social network than the big ones.

more unmentioned platforms include tinder and other purpose-driven social networks like quora and meetup.

is the full video available anywhere?

at the risk of opening a can of worms, why is obama ineligible for the presidency?
is this really the extent of discussion here? i expect better from HN.
Re:Facebook Must Really Suck At Machine Learning on Friday November 18, 2016 @07:34PM (#12991191)
i think the bigger question in wake of hillary's missing landslide, is whether facebook may actually be classifying CNN et. al. as 'fake' news.
do you think his equates to doxxing someone?
