Terrible pasta? I solely buy spelt (dinkel) pasta of I can choose.

Maybe you mean it gets more sticky if you cook it too long? But al dente I think it's amazing. It has a nutty taste that works very well with tomatoes if you ask me.

> As long as I don't get taxed on the same money in both countries, I don't see the issue here.

That's exactly one of the current issues. The general rule is something like 'taxation happens where the company creates value'. Registration in Estonia just means taxation starts in Estonia. But at any point can Spain say 'we consider this a Spanish company'. After Spain taxes too, you can request a tax refund in Estonia. That's assuming they agree. Both countries will only communicate with the company, not with each other.

So while double taxation treaties are great, they are not doing much upfront in this respect.

The above is about company taxation, not personal taxes. For SMB that line is often confusing.

Re:Is Iceland getting ready to join the EU? on Sunday December 29, 2024 @04:10PM (#42543153)
You mean Sweden and Denmark, not Scandinavia. And both have different ideas about joining the Eurozone. Norway isn't part of the EU. Finland is using the Euro.
Not even one per day as far as I can tell.

The Amtrack website also mentions:

Known as Maryland's “Queen City,” Cumberland was an early gateway to the West. Today, it is a bustling arts center and popular stopover for cyclists using the trail network between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.

> If you store any kind of data about a visitor to make their life more convenient, is that tracking? Shopping carts? Notification preferences? etc.

If it is crucial to provide the service or the service is explicitely requested by the user (i'd argue a shopping cart is), I think you don't need consent (see Article 5 of Directive 2002/58/EC).

No, given some exceptions (think dictators trying), that's not going to happen, right? At that point it's not a technological issue. You're talking about the right to be cryptical in everyday speech.

Edit: or, in a different approach, they'd have to forbid (private) use of (some) algorithms. Again, that sounds like you'll have bigger issues then, no?

I don't have one either but I could read it on Mastodon. If it helps someone:

Re:Legs and knobs for IKEA and other furniture on Sunday April 09, 2023 @04:43AM (#35500950)
You can also attempt to do this within IKEA. You can sometimes buy bed/sofa/... legs separately and use ones from other series and furniture.

Sometimes they are quite different, or at least fit your style better than the default ones.

Re:Ask HN: Why is the Twitter logo a Shiba Inu? on Monday April 03, 2023 @02:11PM (#35428680)
That graph does not have 0 as the starting point, which makes the so called spike look more dramatic. Try to enlarge the view by selecting a much longer period of time.

Logitech's dongles (and possibly others) mimic a USB connection while still being wireless. They also allow you to access your BIOS.

Things being what they are, I don't think Bluetooth is the right setup for input devices.

I've used Trainline [0] twice for cross-border train travel because it fits in-between those 2 options (Google Maps vs Nightjet).

On the Czech IKEA website it's listed with a price of 999 CZK [0]. This is about 42 EUR.

Isn't that like saying only big companies with specialized roles are allowed to provide app-like functionality?

Among others, smaller shops and single-person companies surely benefit from one delivery platform if you ask me. Even if it's not perfect.

Re:Rant: Year of Linux on the Desktop (2022) on Sunday January 01, 2023 @12:06PM (#34208132)
I'll bite. You seem to be wrong. I use a 13" Huawei laptop from 2019 (I can't compare newer hardware):

- screen resolution is 4k (please correct me if that's not retina)

- price was $900-$1000 (apple products were double that price)

- everything just works in Linux except the fingerprint reader (I'll have to give you that)

Re:The Overlords Finally Showed Up on Sunday December 25, 2022 @09:41AM (#34127594)
Funny how the article is exactly about this happening: the inability to tell what is true when reading.

The article might be AI generated, your comment might be, both, or none of them. How will we know who is right? And if we can't, will we stop caring?

I would add The Castles of Burgundy to that price range list.
Re:Lionel Messi Is Impossible (2014) on Sunday December 18, 2022 @11:28AM (#34039262)
I'm baffled any half decent site would use that. I expected some kind of new web/Chrome API.

That's a very "bold" choice of 538 if you ask me.

Re:Lionel Messi Is Impossible (2014) on Sunday December 18, 2022 @10:52AM (#34038800)
When I navigate back to HN after reading the article, I get a page 'more stories before you go'. At least the first time I opened the link.

How is 538 able to intercept my navigation away from their page?

Re:Ask HN: What is the best gadget you bought in 2022? on Tuesday November 22, 2022 @04:08AM (#33703673)
Logitech MX Keys keyboard. It's the best keyboard I've every typed on by a large margin.

In Europe, I had to order the US (qwerty) version through eBay though. As Logitech is stuck in ancient regional limitations.

> I think the country could very well cease to exist

Do you mean something like Scotland going their own way? Or something more dramatic (think revolution)?

I tried the 'add detergent to the pre-wash-cycle' part. While it seems to make sense, it also caused a lot more rust spots on cutlery. The detergent is just too aggressive that way.

Can I suggest to please write what the bug was about in the title as it happens often that old bugs are closed years later.
Would you mind to be more specific? What do you mean by 'until open borders'? Air and/or sea? How were domestic and international related infections different? Were containment measures different for both?
