Re:My cat water fountain comes with a spicy USB power adapter on Tuesday December 19, 2023 @12:36PM (#38698662)
One of my cats learned to bump the faucet lever on the kitchen sink when he wanted a drink. Fortunately the sink only overflowed twice but that was enough to make me very serious about not leaving dishes in the sink.

Also _Against a Dark Background_ by Iain M. Banks. It describes a very, very old civilization with no stars close enough to even think about interstellar travel.
I'm also opposite from you. I quite like celery but even the smell of brussels sprout makes me ill.

I attribute my dislike of many vegetables (b. sprout, okra, asparagus, broccoli) to how my middle- and high-school cafeterias always overcooked them into a wretched goo. I've developed a taste for some of these later in life when properly cooked but sprouts and okra are still inedible.

Uller Uprising, H. Beam Piper

Sci-fi novel based on the Sepoy Mutiny. Life on Uller is based on silicon.

Twitch employee here. I've forwarded this up the chain. Maybe we can (finally) get a "Programming" category.

_The Legend of Bagger Vance_ is probably his best known book (and the book is a lot better than the movie).

_Gates of Fire_ is very good.

Great book.

Re:Fat-fueled brain: unnatural or advantageous? on Wednesday September 28, 2016 @01:42PM (#12599661)
Ranch dressing is fairly low-carb and generally the go-to for store-bought and restaurants. There are recipes out there for excellent low-carb French dressing that uses no-sugar Ketchup (Heinz, available on Amazon), Apple Cider vinegar, olive oil, and spices.

Biggest benefit of Keto for me is the higher sustained mental energy level. I don't think I noticed any direct cognitive effects, but I was definitely able to keep focus, stay alert, and be productive all day. No more late-afternoon slumps.
