Re:Ask HN: How would you refactor a big project in 2023? on Friday January 13, 2023 @03:20PM (#34373337)
"it is also hard to find good developers for our current stack." Maybe I can help you out. I love refactoring, simplifying software, deleting the code. My personal notes about topic https://github.com/slk500/phprefactor/blob/master/phprefacto... PM me at https://www.linkedin.com/in/slawomirgrochowski/
Re:Ask HN: How would you refactor a big project in 2023? on Friday January 13, 2023 @03:04PM (#34373150)
If first attempt to refactor was over-engineered. They same will happen with the the new stack. New tools won't resolve problems. Start deleting the code.

"We know, for example, that iterating on existing solutions is more likely to improve software than a full rewrite. The dangers of full rewrites have been documented. Joel Spolsky and Stack Overflow described them as “the single worst strategic mistake that any software company can make.” - Kill It with Fire - Manage Aging Computer Systems (and Future Proof Modern Ones) by Marianne Bellotti

finally! doom at full speed

Re:What’s new in Emacs 28.1? on Wednesday April 06, 2022 @12:58PM (#30934669)
You have to find specific need that emacs will fulfil. Org-mode is the key. Don't try to use it like IDE for coding for a start.

I recommend start with video tutorials:

1. Mike Zamansky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kBWM3RQQ8&list=PL9KxKa8NpF...

2. Rainer König org-mode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQS06Qjnkcc&list=PLVtKhBrRV_...

Write it down. Why You disapprove & how it will impact your work. Talk later. Btw. I just have read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peopleware:_Productive_Project... - great book with all sort of stories of bad company practice & policy.
Re:Plaintext Productivity on Sunday March 20, 2022 @05:12PM (#30746680)
in emacs org-mode you can archive some tasks, text - it will move it to another text file ex. archive.txt with the timestamp or archiving it. Beside this keep your file in git. so you delete text & make explicit commit message that something was removed.
font on the page is awful
emacs+org-mode
You should try org-mode

Interesting, thx
'hundreds of times' that's silly. Car industry once again luring people to buy new cars. Better solution would be making cars that can be repair & standardize easy to replace parts. But all what their doing is to prevent from car fixing on your own & making parts thats fits only to specific one model. Sometimes you can't even change your oil because you need to buy a special tool.

I'm making a community annotated music video database tagged by subject matter. In ex. music videos with chess https://culturevein.com/tags/chess , video games https://culturevein.com/tags/video-game etc. There are over 600 tags https://culturevein.com/tags . It's open source.
You can list all music videos with chess, basketball, sony playstation, woman beat man, food fight etc. And play scene with selected tag. It's free software - repo is on github. You don't have to register to add new tags & music videos. What do you think about it ?
