Re:Exploring what loneliness does to the human body on Sunday January 28, 2018 @06:53PM (#16254351)
Very bad article. Does not address WHY would loneliness have such an effect. I mean "scientifically" why, not qualitatively.
Google Play and Google Pay.

The Google Pay logo says Gee-play. It should not be shortened to G.

Re:Your car may soon serve you ads on Monday January 08, 2018 @02:04PM (#16099064)
Those cars would need a display with a non-legacy OS and Internet connectivity.

I hope the implementations can securely isolate the ads from the rest of the car software.

Potatoes are special. If you eat them with the skin, they are the most complete food.
Re:Dogecoin just broke $2B on Monday January 08, 2018 @08:36AM (#16096579)
Stocks have volatility and those that got them, paid good money for them. Dogecoin was given or acquired for next to nothing.
Re:Dogecoin just broke $2B on Monday January 08, 2018 @07:27AM (#16096274)
If someone puts a sell for a million of those dogecoins, it would send the price down to under 1 cent per dogecoin (current price).
I watched the video and then clapped at the end.

There has been tremendous effort to make the presentation and explain the mechanics that led to the XFEL.

Highly recommended.

Re:Primes and Primality Testing on Saturday November 18, 2017 @10:27AM (#15729299)
Has typos.

Says that 199^883467 is difficult to factorise. Well, all 883467 factors are shown already.

Re:How One Woman's Digital Life Was Weaponized Against Her on Saturday November 18, 2017 @09:57AM (#15729157)
It is a notice that they removed this item from the main page of HN.

I do not get why it got removed. It is about a case of online harassment with all the details there. It is probably the first case that was scrutinised so much.

Re: HN, there are all sort of opportunities for startup ideas to protect when a person is being harassed.

Re:Dell Offers Computers Preinstalled with Ubuntu on Wednesday November 15, 2017 @07:38AM (#15703304)
That is for the US. What about Europe?
Re:Dell Offers Computers Preinstalled with Ubuntu on Wednesday November 15, 2017 @07:37AM (#15703298)
Yes.

When you select to configure your Dell, you can see how much you save when choosing Ubuntu.

They discovered a cave nearby that was used more than 5000 years ago. The cave entrance collapsed 5000 ago and was discovered just recently. An undisturbed view of prehistoric life from some much time ago.
It is so obvious that it's just a misleading title.

They are not asking to send them your (new) nude photos. They are trying to say that if a person has some old nude photos AND they think they are leaked online, they could send copies to aid in searching who is sharing them.

Re:An Update on Firefox Containers on Wednesday October 04, 2017 @05:08PM (#15404678)
This pollutes the term container, which up to now they were assisted by kernel security features.
Then it is even more damning to the head of security if they knew about the vulnerability. The ultimate person to decide whether a vulnerability is not to be patched, is the head of security.
Re:Announcing Caddy Commercial Licenses on Saturday September 16, 2017 @11:43AM (#15265121)
Do you have a link that shows that attempt?
Re:Announcing Caddy Commercial Licenses on Wednesday September 13, 2017 @03:09PM (#15241558)
I think the Caddy developers messed up and did not follow the example of nginx.

That is, keep Caddy as it was and get sponsorships/memberships for a "Caddy Plus".

Re:Harvey, the Storm That Humans Helped Cause on Wednesday August 30, 2017 @02:55AM (#15130172)
This is only the third consecutive year since such a 1 in 500 years event happens.
Re:Why I Was Fired by Google on Saturday August 12, 2017 @08:49AM (#14997690)
Another article about how the science does not support such genetic difference between the sexes, got just flagged. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14997523
Re:The science doesn’t support the Google memo on Saturday August 12, 2017 @08:23AM (#14997616)
It is frightening how intelligent people would confuse possible cultural correlation with actual causation.
Re:The science doesn’t support the Google memo on Saturday August 12, 2017 @08:20AM (#14997609)
Google would love to see that memo called something else, like the Damore memo.
So I read this article and do not see any merit or value.

The article mixes up genetics with what people end up doing in life.

Re:Waiting for Apache Open Office on Saturday August 05, 2017 @05:42AM (#14934966)
I don't know about the LibreOffice people. I know that the AOO would NEVER allow that. There is enough hatred that keeps them going.
Proper English should have been: "Facebook may track your browsing even after...".

The judge can rule about lawfulness, otherwise it looks like they are a investigative reporter that just found out about the technical capability to track users in such a way.

The problem is that you cannot force a "subscription" with open-source software. It would not and should not be called subscription.

You could ask for a regular/monthly contribution. There is something similar with Ubuntu and others; when you download Ubuntu, you are asked to make a voluntary monetary contribution.

Re:Author of cURL denied entry to the USA on Tuesday June 27, 2017 @05:10AM (#14643544)
Is he developing any critical software that some would want to inject unsafe code?
I am looking for the announcement of a genetic link in this debate.
Re:My Ubuntu for mobile devices post-mortem analysis on Tuesday June 20, 2017 @06:16PM (#14599069)
Android has sucked up all breathing space in mobile operating systems. There is no chance for something else.
Re:LXD 2.14 has been released on Sunday June 11, 2017 @01:49AM (#14530826)
If you click the link, there is a demo service to try out LXD through your browser. It creates a shell and has a tutorial to follow with this new shell.
Re:The first genome data from ancient Egyptian mummies on Wednesday May 31, 2017 @08:28AM (#14451923)
I believe the authors use the term Near East to describe the parts of present-day Turkey, Syria and nearby regions.

Middle-East is too broad to have usefulness in the article.
