Re:Servo announces grant from the NLnet Foundation on Friday November 10, 2023 @09:35AM (#38219345)
I don't see Ladybird ever being seriously useful. Already serious browser projects like Brave, Arc, and Orion struggle to keep me off of Firefox.

Servo is honestly doing the correct thing by focusing on embed-ability into other projects, something that has been basically dominated by Chrome alone

Re:Servo announces grant from the NLnet Foundation on Friday November 10, 2023 @09:30AM (#38219301)
if you don't have time to look into it then you shouldn't just blindly spout incorrect information, just saying.
Re:Omegle founder shuts down site forever? on Thursday November 09, 2023 @10:57AM (#38206635)
so basically, you're suggesting that the terrorists goal to attack the US and destabilize the globe is correct, and the terrorists won?

sounds like the war shouldn't have happened, and the correct solution was not to do that

Re:Omegle founder shuts down site forever? on Thursday November 09, 2023 @10:54AM (#38206578)
when the planet is dead we can't go anywhere
Re:The First Stable Release of a Rust-Rewrite Sudo Implementation on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:26AM (#38189991)
by having the Linux kernel be a sub part of a larger system. literally look at WSL2
Re:The First Stable Release of a Rust-Rewrite Sudo Implementation on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:24AM (#38189976)
a reimplementation that copies the interface has no need to copy the license. GPL people just get scared because they know their license can't prevent people from rewriting their own software (of course, such an idea is ridiculous).

the GPL is not a perfect license, there is no such thing.

Re:The First Stable Release of a Rust-Rewrite Sudo Implementation on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:21AM (#38189941)
how do you pronounce gif
Re:The First Stable Release of a Rust-Rewrite Sudo Implementation on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:19AM (#38189925)
I might be too harsh, but it is not so trustworthy that they found bugs within the original sudo after less than a year of effort. those other devs had over 40 years to find it
Re:Google Abandons Web Environment Integrity API on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @08:13AM (#38189884)
it's completely irrelevant
Re:NewPipe – The lightweight YouTube experience for Android on Wednesday November 08, 2023 @12:05AM (#38187014)
the source is open, it's just not open source. You can't be pedantic about things they didn't say, and you don't get to retroactively define open to only be definable by OSI.
you will never fight the libertarian mindset on hacker news, you argue about monopolies and they just hear "winners"
how could they be?
Re:Sam Bankman-Fried found guilty on all charges on Friday November 03, 2023 @06:30PM (#38135911)
is this the level of discourse we're at? calling banks frauds when actual frauds scam people? hilarious
Re:Sam Bankman-Fried found guilty on all charges on Friday November 03, 2023 @06:22PM (#38135823)
what are you actually arguing? because he is compelled to answer questions, why is that different from being compelled to read a headline for a question of "did you write that/approve that" etc.

he agreed to take the stand, he agreed to everything. what would the lawyer object with "your honor, they're making him read" lmao

Re:Sam Bankman-Fried found guilty on all charges on Friday November 03, 2023 @06:18PM (#38135777)
not with crypto though, because it's all a scam or a front, there is no actually successful crypto projects, unless you count successful as having scammed a bunch of money out of people's hands, in which case, yes theyre all pretty much successful
they do not want articles submitted as HN posts, and actively have code to monitor if such a thing happens. Do not spread misinformation that they do not want people linking to it in comments in response to completely valid Linux on Mac questions
why are you arbitrarily pretending that makes up for all other forms of theft?
how/why would there be correct pirating statistics lmao
Re:Oxide: The Cloud Computer on Friday October 27, 2023 @08:46AM (#38037719)
it's so funny to me that you're harping on this analogy when it's clear you are so stubborn you won't accept anyone else's answer anyways.
Re:Woman wins 12-year legal battle against Google on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:46AM (#38014031)
a settlement isn't just money, can you not read the article?
Re:Woman wins 12-year legal battle against Google on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:45AM (#38014022)
no, because they have not been notified, they also may not be a second publisher here. but go off king
Re:Woman wins 12-year legal battle against Google on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:43AM (#38014007)
can you really not be ripped off by psychics? I mean come on
Re:SumatraPDF Reader on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:31AM (#38013874)
that doesn't explain you purposefully misunderstanding people
Re:SumatraPDF Reader on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:31AM (#38013867)
what did you think this gotcha was? you just look annoying and pretentious. he didn't say literally every PDF for a reason
Re:SumatraPDF Reader on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @11:29AM (#38013843)
if by plethora you mean different web implementations, sure. but there has basically been less than a handful cross platform UI toolkits since GTK/QT
Re:The Speed of the Librem 5 on Tuesday October 24, 2023 @01:18PM (#38002216)
they are not lying, apple was quite literally sued successfully in France and are currently settling class action lawsuits over the exact thing.

apple can say otherwise but that doesn't mean you need to regurgitate their lies. Apple only slowed the phones after a software update, not as a natural response to battery degradation. if that were the case it wouldn't be unique to that specific phone anyways.

God, apple makes good hardware but the people who just makes things up to stand in the fire of criticism are the strangest

Re:The Fake Browser Update Scam Gets a Makeover on Thursday October 19, 2023 @08:43AM (#37942087)
but realistically they aren't, so why are you even mentioning it?

not every app is on the windows or Mac App store, not every app is on the Linux package managers. even so there is no sandboxing so you're just waiting until one of them gets compromised and hope nothing bad happens

sandboxing hostile apps is the only true way to protect yourself, and even that isn't perfect

Re:Bandcamp's Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off on Thursday October 19, 2023 @08:35AM (#37941990)
it's directly saying that unions protect against anti-worker bullshit corporate speak.

which you seem to eat up and want to spit right back at people

Re:Bandcamp's Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off on Thursday October 19, 2023 @08:33AM (#37941968)
apparently the bar for companies is that low that HN is bootlicking the bare minimum. it's honestly hilarious.

this is extremely shady, and I don't know why people are trusting the source directly lol. they wouldn't say they did anything untoward, ever

Re:Using Goatse to Stop App Theft on Tuesday October 17, 2023 @06:01PM (#37922199)
completely useless nonsensical comment
