Re:MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC Industry: Asus Co-CEO on Wednesday March 11, 2026 @06:02PM (#47342741)
OS X / macOS has been ahead of Windows for a long time for anyone who lives in a web browser.
The solution if you really want to hear from the other side is to visit their echo chamber.

But most people who talk politics aren't really interested in changing their perspective. That's why these echo chambers exist.

Until they decide that they only support 2FA by app push notification.
There are no obvious threats to AdWords (aside from LLM chatbots) and YouTube.

It'd be in stark contrast to Russia's attempted decapitation strike.

Even the slightest shadow of a "rules-based international world order" is dead. And all it took was some post-pandemic inflation.
People who even know what remote attestation is are an even smaller niche.
The last time I tried Linux on a consumer device was 15 years ago. The battery life was unacceptable. Have things improved since then? Phoronix doesn't seem to test battery life.
I often reciprocate. Receiving a gift triggers some warm fuzzies and I try to make the other person happy as well.

If they say or act as if there's something expected? I'm returning that "gift". That's a bargaining chip, not a gift.

Re:Non-Zero-Sum Games on Wednesday December 31, 2025 @10:25PM (#46451023)
Which facts are misrepresented?

The point is that the author picks some arbitrary critique and calls them fallacious, when the core of the disagreement is elsewhere.

This is exactly it.

I don't buy someone lunch with an implicit expectation that they'll buy me lunch in the future. That's tacky and gross. I buy lunch because I wanted to buy them lunch, and if they decide to buy me lunch, I happily accept.

Right, all the games that they think will be successful. Most games won't- it's a power law market.

There's nothing preventing a game dev from selling exclusively on their own site. It's not as though Steam has exclusive access to Windows customers like the App/Play Store do on their platforms. Steam earns its customers and their trust and developers follow.

Just skip the chapter?
What Steam brings is a firehose of gamers with their credit cards ready to all the games they think will be successful.

There's a reason why everyone launches on Steam.

If every gift one gives out comes with a moral obligation, it'd be pretty selfish to give gifts.

Critics are typically saying that giving out scholarships limited by race is racially discriminatory.

It's better data than the people in one person's life.

You did say it.

> with slots going to the rich and privileged) [...] AA just pushes against THAT

It doesn't give away the slots reserved for the rich.

And it's not a tiebreaker between equally qualified candidates. At Harvard, Africans who performed in the 4th decile were admitted more often than Asians in the 10th decile. [1]

None of my arguments require any assumption on why. But I would say that it's because of prestige and signaling.
Re:Non-Zero-Sum Games on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @11:23AM (#46434883)
AA doesn't prevent the rich from buying admissions. It redistributes slots from middle and lower class folks with the wrong ethnicity.

And many against affirmative action will agree that there have been massive historical injustices for certain demographics that have lingering effects. The difference between these two sides is which value they prioritize.
Re:Non-Zero-Sum Games on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @10:38AM (#46434361)
It's only positive sum if they grew because of affirmative action. And if affirmative action caused net friction, it'd be a Moloch.
Re:Public Sans – A strong, neutral typeface on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @10:15AM (#46434090)
Are there any designers here who can explain when the differences between Public Sans and Roboto Sans and when to use one or the other?
Re:Non-Zero-Sum Games on Tuesday December 30, 2025 @09:57AM (#46433906)
Even if some critics of AA are committing that fallacy, debunking a weaker argument when a stronger argument exists is ineffective.

The implicit argument is that AA's largest challenge is a coordination problem. It's not. It's a clash in values and a fight over zero-sum rewards.

It's about time.

Car doors should have an intuitive method to open even when the car is unpowered.
