Bullying a car displaying any of the symbols displayed in the article is a ticketable offense in Japan*
*I've never seen or heard of someone getting a ticket for merely inconsiderate driving, but it's there in the traffic law
VLC has the best UX in the world. Yes It Will Play That Video!
It has a ton of cryptic options, but at least it lets you mess around with them and maybe get something usable, where other apps would just give up and shake their head.
Convenience stores changed a lot around 2010 when they started real time tracking Every Damn Thing. Even in the mid 00s staff ate, took home, or gave away whatever they wanted to from the expired pile.
Ukraine is "receiving money from others"? We are benefactors of the Ukrainians' bravery and sacrifices. How much money could we have not spent if Hitler had been stopped in Czechoslovakia?
From a photographer's perspective, using cel scans as a reference could be a fool's errand because they are biased by the white color of the scanner light and scanning software. There's a lot of room for opinionated scans there.
OTOH, the result looks great, so good on the passionate fans who spent their time and effort doing this.
> CRT ("brown tube")
ブラウン管 means Braun tube, named for its inventor.
Now is bad too, but my recollection is that the iPhone 3G-era task killer was EXTREMELY aggressive and required "tricks" to keep your state in the one app you could run
Maggot Brain begins with on-the-nose apocalyptic imagery, but ends with a release and rebirth. One day, the fighting stops.
I did this and considered it the easy way of installing an OS on a Mac circa 2011 vs. DVD then messing around updating that ...

Apple has a whole page on making a bootable USB, it can save you a step: https://support.apple.com/en-us/101578
Being good at driving doesn’t fix the huge blind spot you have behind your car
Valve updates HL1 every few years so it runs on contemporary platforms. DOS was ancient history by the time HL came out, you might be getting it mixed up with Quake1
a lot of the changes and updates to articles since Sheldon Brown died are controversial, I recommend checking out an old version on the Wayback machine
It’s not too shabby for an abandoned 20+ year old game
The source code release changes everything, but they used to play on a mod (GenTool) with the ruleset from the final retail release.
The current meta is almost balanced so most attempts to improve it generally fail
> Also happy to see this classic RTS is still being played and even developed by the community. I'd be curious to know what the age of people this invested into the game is, if it's all 30+ year old boomers with nostalgia and knee pain
There's enough of a community to support a yearly World Series with $25K cash awards in 2025!
It was just called the Half-Life engine then. It was developed in parallel with Q2, and in general has feature parity with Q2, with a few huge features that they were able to add because of the extra year of development like skeletal animation.

Compare Nintendo 64 = Roku-Yon (Six-Four) and PlayStation = Pure-Sute
Please don’t be patronizing. Are you involved with this project? Your comment is hostile and involves digging through my post history etc.
What I meant was “every lab I’ve ever had my film developed at cut and sleeved film by default because there were plenty of reasons to do so and not many reasons to not”
> Price is 999 euro.
It says on the site it will retail for 1599 EUR
I’m sure they are really hard to find for free on the internet
1. I had never even heard of an uncut developed roll of film before, so I guess it's useful for that.
2. Time is money, but who is honestly shooting that much 135 film that it's worth 1600 Euros to buy a faster scanner for it? I don't think a museum wants to feed degraded film through a fast scanner, and surely pros who still shoot film would use a larger format, since that's where it has some differences / advantages compared to digital?
Scanning 135 format at home is pretty much a solved problem right? The home made solution to this costs $0 if you own any DSLR and some other basic photography gear.
I think the product would be more compelling and worth it or even a good deal at the price they are offering if it offered drum scan-quality for larger formats.
Yes, it is a wonderful surprise seeing an informational website that is actually informative and to the point.
This, especially nowadays that Mac OS has an ARM target, and there’s essentially (literally?) no difference between an iPad and MacBook hardware
There’s no citation, because why would there be?
But: if you consider the amount of nuclear generating capacity has (4th in the world, more than Russia), and its advanced space program, “within one year” probably means closer to “weeks or months” than “three hundred and sixty four days”.
I'm a semi-retired pro and acting like Fujifilm are "hype" is really ignorant. They are a smart company who have a long history of making great pro-grade cameras and lenses.
I had to dust off a useless memory, but it looks exactly like Doom2 Map06 with Quake2 lighting added by the source port Doom Legacy
If you hear that, it’s too late for you, I’m afraid.
It’s time to go when your guide says: “It’s inexcusable and I’m very sorry for the inconvenience, but the control room has informed me that we should make our way towards the emergency exit five minutes to the south west of the left of the 7-11. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
> now-unpopular legacy of deregulating and wrecking the Japanese postal service
Unpopular with who? In hindsight, the post office was a bandaid that needed to be ripped off before it became the next JNR. If he didn't do that, the tax payer would be on the hook for its final implosion, which is happening right now.
> Is rice a significant percentage of food cost in Japan?
At the height of rice prices, rice cost about the same per kg as domestic chicken thighs. That's a problem when rice is meant to be an affordable staple food.
> The fact the average Japanese person won't even consider trying imported Japonica rice from Australia or USA is madness if budget is a consideration.
Domestic rice is a national security concern, not a financial one. Being fed by another country, even an ally, can turn pear-shaped very quickly. Is it that hard to imagine Trump threatening to starve Japan if they don't bow to his demands?*
> But also, the average Japanese eats around 1kg of uncooked rice per week. That's ¥800 at the rates in the article (~USD$300/year). Japan's cost of living is generally pretty low, but I doubt +/- $100/year is effecting many people.
Why the doubt? The average price of rice literally doubled YoY. For families that can be hundreds of dollars per month (yen equivalent) that they have to pull out of thin air, and that's in a country where the median wage is half of Australia.
* Yes, Japan already imports over half of its food, but rice is where the government decided to draw the line in the sand.
