News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

How certain are you guys that it wasn't the sheer levels of traffic due to the ongoing Boston situation?

>But, if this breach is true, I hope they handle it well.

That is unfortunately the problem though. If this is true, they have already handled it terribly as it has already been 2 weeks since the attack.

Answering my own question but:

>Thanks :) Follow us @bombermine — we have plans to write an article about how game works. In few words: java, jetty, gwt, javascript, node.js, html5 [1]

Anyone got any background on the backend tech involved?
Re:Inherit the Cloud: Who gets your Google Docs when you die? on Monday February 18, 2013 @09:03AM (#5238285)
Charlie Brooker's latest 'Black Mirror' episode touches on a similar subject in a dramatised fashion and it's quite an interesting/thoughtful watch. UK users can catch it on 4OD, it's called 'Be Right Back'.
>In general, game developers make less than your average software developer.

Interesting. Can I ask where you read that or how you came to that conclusion?

Because we're a bunch of programmers that like creating our own solutions to things; it's rewarding in more ways than saving time and money.
Re:Gittip Anyone on Twitter on Wednesday December 19, 2012 @11:06AM (#4943161)
Indeed, and what are you going to do with the name going forward given that 'git' means something completely different to the non-technical minded?
Re:Show HN: Por Favor - Favors between friends on Monday September 17, 2012 @07:30AM (#4532060)
If there's one feature a todo list shouldn't have, it's the ability for others to add things to it. That already exists and it's called email.
Re:10 Python One-liners To Impress Your Friends on Monday May 28, 2012 @04:34AM (#4032492)
10 Python one-liners to piss off your colleagues by ignoring the Zen.

Seriously though, some of these are ridiculously unreadable so think twice before using any for anything more than theory.

Re:Hey Paydirt: Your Site Works Just Fine In IE on Tuesday May 08, 2012 @04:23PM (#3945617)
Yes, but the site working provides absolutely no reason to actively block it. Display an 'upgrade your browser' message fine, but actively block a certain browser based on user agent string? Ridiculous.

That, dear sir, would be a joke.
Re:Path uploads your entire iPhone address book to its servers on Wednesday February 08, 2012 @07:19AM (#3566265)
I don't know if any you remember, but this is why Guido van Rossum quit using Twitter. The official twitter client for Android uploads your entire contact book without showing more than a notification stating 'find your friends' or similar; you click this notification and by that time it's already too late. Re:JQuery Shutters Plugin Site on Sunday December 04, 2011 @11:42AM (#3310998)
It's not misleading; it says 'shutters' not 'shut'. As in how you'd close a shop overnight by pulling the shutters down..
Re:Don't use MongoDB on Wednesday November 09, 2011 @08:41AM (#3215399)
I think he was more pointing the finger at HN in general.
