Well horses for courses. Probably get more traction on the thundercats forum?
Newscorp sued them laat year. What happened with that case?
Re:Intel stock collapse worsens as $3.5T chip rout spreads on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:54PM (#50346991)
Yup we live inside an ever growing noise factory thanks to modern news/social media attention harvesting dynamics. All sides are using it on autopilot.

The systems are optimized for pumping more and more bits out. Not to measure/reduce noise and increase signal.

Individually its easier to tune it out.

Intel was at 15 bucks for multiple years post its peaks.

Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:06PM (#50346648)
Its too early to tell what value will be found especially in large corps, where lot of the institutional knowledge that needs to be transferred into these systems is not straight forward to extract and encode. It effects who has power in different parts of large systems. So things take time.

Recent example is the time they took time to wrap their head around Cloud. Now look at the revenues they generate for Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle etc. Early days.

Doesnt matter at this stage of growth what financial analysts say because they havent seen anything similar in their lives :) Large corps are going to really be the deciding factor, in what ANTs next years revenue is going to look like. And right now inside large corps there are literally hundreds to thousands of different experiments running and no one knows what is going to click.
Re:Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it on Sunday November 01, 2026 @02:13PM (#50328689)
People are allowed to process their anxieties. And processing takes time. That said publicly doing it on the great modern internet attention/noise factory complicates the story.
More like the people in power protecting his ass are about to be replaced and he is scared. See Circulation of the Elites. There is always some group somewhere trying to co-opt the system. Short term buying ppl works. Long term it doesnt. Through out human history.
Well AI made these classes much more interesting to me. The classes will point at the Ring of Gyges, Plato's Chariot etc Eye opening/mind altering to say the least. That people were thinking deeply about this stuff 3-4000 years ago leads to questions about why then are people today so shallow? Didn't societies Trumps and Elons through the ages pay attention to what Socretes, Plato, Aristotle, Kant etc had to say? How did they deal with each other? We are taught western civilization, religion, philisophy is built on top of these foundational works. Then the news shows us Elon and Trump. How are you supposed to reconcile the two? AI showed me how to in how the lives of Socretes, Plato, Aristotle etc ended.
Well in large corp this takes time, even if you have an army of Einsteins at your disposal (just like we saw with Elons Doge) because there will be 16 different spreedsheets/dbs talking abt the state of the system that all contradict each other. While the 6 people who maintain their own state to keep the lights on, will have job titles that have nothing to do with system state maintenance.

Small companies its hit or miss cuz they are overwhelmed by the pace of change. Basically no one wants to hear things will take time. Intelligence is just one system variable and others dont just auto sync.

Mass reskilling is already happening. Certifications basically retraining people.

The issue, in large orgs, is not that the tool can do a decent job, its that a huge amount of institutional knowledge is not encoded or encodable.

Initially the thinking was people will transfer all Institutional knowledge/operations mpdel into the system, but in reality how people run ops and how they say they run ops is not the same.

Exposing the gap doesnt work because many of the things keeping the lights on, involve taking shortcuts, hiding stuff, avoiding stuff, bribing/flattering others etc Orgs allow it to an extent because it gives them an edge over competition.

Training AI to do all that is much more tricky because it changes who has power inside an org. So the thinking has turned into retrain people to use the tools better to keep doing what they are doing.

If you print money, you are the bank. Tokens are the new currency.
Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era? on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:55AM (#50301767)
I tell it I am a chimp with a 3 inch brain so complexity beyond chimp scale is forbidden unless requested. And to apply theory of bounded rationality during all chimp interactions. Takes care of me like a spl circus animal.

I ask it for a quick complexity thermometer reading when ever the rabbit hole is looking like it might explode.

Also walking away from it every few hours and doing random simple mindless stuff has helped. Like I will go inspect my fish and plants. Try to have a chat with the cat, get others around to do a little dance etc etc.

I have a priest in the family who has to deal with lot of heavy duty stuff/people's problems. They train them not to get totally sucked in and loose themselves. He calls it grounding. Just simple mundane things to focus shift out of anything heavy.

Re:Patrick Stewart has died on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:37PM (#50297221)
Have you heard about religion? Its fiction too. Yet it has survived as long aa the chimp troupe has. The human brain generates predictions over different time horizons. When they dont align what is it supposed to do to prevent itself unraveling? It generates fiction. Fiction is how it stays stable.
To find good applicable problems you have to be inside or close to an eco system that is constantly working on these problems. Otherwise its like Napolean Dynamite trying to make Star Wars in Idaho because Uncle Rico gave him a free camera and Kip gave him an article about George Lucas. Got to move closer to Hollywood Napolean.
Palpatine is quite mesmerizing. He will invite to his yatch, island, show you toys etc. "You want to be like me do what I say". Works on most of the chimp troupe since the dawn of time. #TheoryoftheLeisureClass
Re:Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:20PM (#50248458)
So just like working with People :) You might have a Snowden, Mark Felt, Jeff Wigand etc working with you everyday.
They do have big advantanges because many large corps have become totally dependent on them having outsourced everything and lost internal knowledge. That internal ops knowledge is very crucial/useful to take full advatange of what AI offers. In the coming years much of it will leak into frontier models. After which corps might not need IBM/TCS etc and just rebuild internal teams to handle ops like they once did.
Depends on context of what people build.

I mean IBM already has a track record of building gigantic amounts of garbage and over charging large corps and govts for it coasting on their brand name and networks to get deals. So using some cheap ass model fits their MO. Having used their shit mountain called websphere, what an IBM CEO says is not something I take too seriously.

I dont know the solution. But I think Shannon is being brushed under the carpet. Noise levels and random outcomes speak for themselves.
Social media permits Broadcasting for Free. One to All messaging. For all other media - radio, satellite, tv, phones broadcasting requires licenses. Why?

Cuz Claude Shannon told us if everyone broadcasts on the same frequency noise increases and no one hears anything forcing them into broadcasting at higher and higher power or repeating their messages more and more. Which again increases noise. So Broadcasting has always been licensed and regulated. That solved the Noise problem because people were forced to coordinate use of broadcast spectrum.

Social media platforms act as if Shannon doesn't apply. So they do exactly what Shannon predicted. Everyone is broadcasting. No one can be heard clearly. People scream louder and louder. The loudest get locked into arms races. Repeat their messages more and more. At the end of it all Noise hasnt reduced and who gets attention from one day to the next is unpredicatble. And since Platforms dont want to talk about Shannon we are all stuck in some kind of red queen dynamic. People are expending lot of energy. Results are all temporary and unpredictable.

Maybe its a good thing, if people loose interest in such folk. A sort of fatigue can set in I guess. A never ending stream of loathsome people, seem to have been propped up by the Attention Economy. Provoking others gets Attention. Also why Musk got worried and had to buy a platform when there was a threat to being blocked from getting Attention. But maybe the system has some upper limit.
Before AI showed up the UN released a report on the Attention Economy. It said Supply of content had vastly outstripped Demand. It decoupled because entertainment/media was being used to push other products. The telcos, amazon, google/fb and many others were all subsidizing content to push some other product. Exploding info chasing finite non growing eyeballs and time.
Re:In the world AI, will individual apps become obsolete? on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:45PM (#50217646)
In China they already have super apps that do everything. Small businesses barely create their own apps.

That said users will do things that have already become habit. Younger gen usually adopts the new stuff.

Constitutions can be changed by other means. See Saddam, Gadhafi etc. Trump's story is heading in a similar direction.
Re:We're addicted to social media. How do we get sober? on Friday October 23, 2026 @02:14AM (#50205072)
The famous attention economy quote goes - people have limited attention to give anything but unlimited capacity to receive attention. The platforms exploit that diff.

I used to wonder in the early days of social media if better metrics would make a diff. Cuz when the platform says you got 10 views it doesnt say those 10 viewers then go and look up 10 other things. So the attention captured is actually a fraction. The platforms can actually calculate it within their site. And it feels like both the producer and consumer of the content currently see some sort of mistaken measure of what attention anything gets. And behavior is driven by it.

100 years ago Pareto (yes that Pareto) told us what happens in "Circulation of the Elites" when he noticed a very small part of the population owns most of the assets.
Re:Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans on Thursday October 22, 2026 @01:33PM (#50198517)
Take Philosophy/Religion courses and similar stuff will surface about human nature and what to do about it.

What is interesting about AI chatbots is people who might not know anything about what is in the syllabus to train a Priest or a Philosopher are basically exploring these subjects, without a sort of pedagogic framework to support their exploration.

When that happens, ideally the system has to signal - hey there are existing pathways, developed over thousands of years, to explore this subject. Cause people can easily get lost without a map.

duh users are sharing private info with publicly accesible links. The person they share it with can reshare it with whoever they feel like. Obviously the user hasnt thought abt what they are doing. You cant protect everyone from their own ignorance all the time. This is what I meant by a growing gap between what an avg user is expected to know and what they actually know.
Google Jeff Horwitz a journo who has covered Meta for many years. He says both are happening. Sometimes Meta is irresponsible and sometime people make mistakes or dont know any better. You reduce it to one dimension at your own risk.
