Re:Show HN: Hacker GitHub – the GitHub repos HN links to most on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @01:13AM (#50348661)

How often does it make sense to do snapshots, if the first 30 items have so many mentions that almost nothing can beat them?

I like really fast search. Well done.

Cheers. You are absolutely right. After 30 years on the internet I should have known it.

Nobody knows you are a dog. And… don’t make jokes as everybody reads them in different ways…

Re:If you love a website, back it up on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:38PM (#50341444)
Avg bookmark is valid for 5 yrs.

My bookmarks file is a disastrous graveyard as I have 20 yrs’ old ones…

And as a publisher I don’t link fresh sites (don’t even mention Netlify, Lovable, Vercel…) … Vannevar Bush would be surprised how his Xanadu evolved.

This wasn’t meant as a hate. Sorry if it sound so. I really like them, I would buy them. Immediately. Sign me in.

But I think (and see) that people prefer boring tech. Whisper glasses is amazing. But most people will probably find it creepy. (Pareto applied.). I hope I am wrong. These guys are like from sci-fi.

There is a long way from a prototype to production. Remember Google Glasses, Oculus, Meta Rayban, Apple Vision Pro?

All of them are visionary and we would think that ppl gonna like them…

Well… ordinary people want boring tech.

This will be similar with whispering to glasses… Visionaries will like it… and return to missionary (boring) s*x (I hope that I don’t get a ban.)

Myself, I would buy these glasses immediately. But I would hate them as well as I would think I am insane (who wants to talk to yourself?).

Edit: Dang replied. I wish all the best to the team behind “whisper glasses”. It is amazing. Connect it with ElevenLabs and you rule the world. (Previous: It wasn’t meant a hate speech.)

:)

You can flag ai-gen posts…

Imho it is time to update HN rules.

Re:SUSE to cut one in ten employees because of AI on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:10PM (#50339997)
Imho 10% is normal… If you are a corporation, you employ a lot of redundant people. So sometimes you need to make let lose weak ones.

Pareto not applied here btw

Mobile version reloads, imho it is too heavy for Safari.

Well done.

As default weather - I would prefer sunny day instead of rain…

Domain squatters are terrible, I know from experience too.

You can register any free domain, it is better than having the project at Netlify, Vercel, ChatGPT, lovable, or any other domain - those domains are vendor-locks.

Pls buy some nice domain for project and then we can talk :). I am a bit tired to bookmark a project that disappears in few weeks when traffic via Netlify grows and isn’t free anymore…
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @05:47PM (#50320569)
I have found out that first round of data scrape/ingestion is pretty easy.

The "black box" (for me) represents the next update. How can I avoid having to download all the data again and just use the new additions?

Do you have a plan for updates?

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @05:41PM (#50320522)
It is 14,139 videos.

You can open categories and see playlists for each of them.

Ad Astra. To the stars.
Issue with all these design experiments is that you have to reduce the number of elements on the screen to prevent cognitive overload. Eyebrow labels, duplicate information etc. Typography and colors is the last thing to address.
Re:CSS-Tricks has a new owner on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:35PM (#50246650)
Independent publishing is very important but really tough, as curl can serve as an example.

Ads, affil, ebooks, membership, voluntary payments (Wikipedia’s fundraising header can be used as template)… Implement everything and don’t be shy.

Paper is a bullet-proof method /s
Try “Drtikol” :)

Search would need some improvement. Nevertheless, it is cool to have all art pieces available in one place. Bookmarked.

Re:Mitos editor is a fork of Helix on Sunday October 18, 2026 @03:19PM (#50144354)
I will. Thanks.

Good to know. It looks nice. Any plans for Win version?
Re:Plagiarism in the Age of AI on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:24PM (#50135285)
TIL that it comes from Latin (obviously) word plaga, meaning “a net, snare, or hunting net” (and sometimes “a blow from a whip”). And from this came plagium (kidnapping) and plagiarius (kidnapper).
> 36% of launched platform-hosted links are already dead (404)

That is 56 from 155. Sometimes it is moved to another domain, nevertheless it is huge percentage.

BTW: Average age of a link is 5 years. We are heading into broken internet.

Re:Super Intelligence on Saturday October 17, 2026 @12:59PM (#50132808)
This.

Let’s ask chat(bot) vs let’s ask super intelligence - it is a different game.

I want this for Win. Pls.

But the words are all right /s

If it was an exception only… but it is so common that I had to put ASD-STE100 into instructions to have precise answers.

Awesome. Thanks. Let’s add some events from Ted Chiang and Jorge Luis Borges books.
Synthesis of data by LLMs is really good today. I have tried it several times, e.g. for obituaries, or profiles of known people. Nevertheless, I would suggest to double-check everything (Jev, another agents) as one LLM is not enough. Its knowledge can be capped somewhere you don’t want.

Fiction similar to Fakeipedia? Skill for unslop and a little detailed prompt is good enough to generate texts that 98 pct don’t recognize from human-written ones.

Re:The insider trading you're allowed to do on Friday October 16, 2026 @04:28AM (#50115699)
This is not an “insider trading”, it is an insider’s knowledge (affinity to knowledge) and ability to use it.
Re:From Dark Factories to Zero-Page Websites on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:47AM (#50114539)
APIs, LLMs.txt are already here.

In 00s there was an attempt to have mobile friendly sites in WAP but you had to maintain two versions. It was killed by speedy connection.

Re:Friends don't let friends feed their data to AI agents on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:33AM (#50114461)
Not even friends. Family too.

But as ppl are lazy by nature they believe that connecting their mail, calendar and photos to LLM will magically solve their mess.

You can choose potential evil from closed-source US models by FB, Google, OA, Anthropic or SpaceX. And pay for them. Or you can use potential evil open weight models from China… they are free…

This is a ticking time bomb.

Re:Xi's 'death watch' will become a global spectacle on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @08:26AM (#50086618)
Knight fight mentioned in the article.

Mankind should agree that in political positions people should be allowed to stay til 70 and then give it to younger ones. It is globally known that after 70, clear and concise thinking goes down (therefore you have to visit doctor for driving licence every 2 years).

Yes ofc, there are exceptions but they are 20 pct. Add long stay in politics surrounded by people willing to do anything (for themselves).

At 70 - become the wise elder adviser or something… should be an unwritten rule.
