What were the issues that spawned the Luddite movement? What was their argument?

Flawed analogy! These bugs are bugs regardless of the label. Security bugs are a subset of "regular" bugs.

You have a perverse view of product ivity

why u just programming directly into a hn text box?

sounds like ur on a roll. i'd like for a command list along with a persistent data structure so i could retweak and reddit someone's project, parametrically

every time you do an update large enough they do the welcome to mac and try and turn all that shit back on.
It is supernatural to write code by hand, so yeah?

Yeah, a pressure relief clause and it should fire visibly.
Over what time horizon? Before, during or after Trumps 3rd term?

These small operators are increasing their usage of the Technical Abomination Solutions, the simple QR code ticket is on the way out
Seeing as the pentagon has no issue with volunteering for extra judicial murder, it is not off the table. at all.
A big enough bomb and it can be fixed in place.
Contrapositive in this usage is a fancy word for, "my logic is flawed"

No, if you are already making bad decisions, you are going to make more. I never argued that good engineering means the idea was good.

Re:The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy on Friday September 25, 2026 @10:10AM (#49844948)
The ads show they are out of ideas and with everything enshitifying, and a duopoly, they don't need to serve customers. just be slightly less shitty than google.

This puts them at existential risk of disruption, because it will build huge unseen pressure for customers to flee.

We saw this with Opus 4.7 - 5, losing folks to Sol when it came out. But Anthropic delivered with 5.5

Re:Cloud Agents Are Inevitable AI Prisons on Thursday September 24, 2026 @10:27AM (#49831116)
You are doing it right now by naming the event after the victim, not the perpetrator. Call it the OpenAI attack on HF.
Re:Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second on Thursday September 24, 2026 @10:21AM (#49831032)
I don't even notice the LLM speed or latency. I think we are as far apart in technique as it gets.

What is your workflow?

Funny that so many people in this thread are arguing that a bad idea should also be engineered well. It was already a bad idea, so no it won't be. They are a package deal.

When someone else controls distribution, they also control the spark, each request could serve up a different payload. So innocuous images could encode ids, tracking receivers as well as originators.
I would score this as an own goal.
Re:Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees on Monday September 21, 2026 @02:12PM (#49791079)
You can't compare if you don't know the cost, if you can't compare it is hard for the invisible hand to price the market.

Price transparency makes more efficient markets.

Re:I am often wrong on Sunday September 20, 2026 @09:34PM (#49782044)
That isn't typically how abstraction is tallied. The ceo doesn't say they use 15k employees, or the programmer uses 30B transistors. Or the director uses 120 workers. You enumerate what you actually interact with.
Re:I am often wrong on Sunday September 20, 2026 @09:21PM (#49781960)
That isn't humanly possible, you will blow out your neurotransmitters and not be able to think. Only being semi serious, but we can't make that many decisions a day.
Tics, tropes are worn out predictable plot devices
why do use ai to write your posts ?

You come off bitter for no reason.
Which is why Taiwan is safe until china can produce domestically because their power comes from exports.

China is not going to sabotage themselves like that.

Re:It's getting harder to focus every day on Friday July 24, 2026 @11:32AM (#49037160)
The number one goal in a functioning democracy should be to have the highest possible education rate.
what if you are retired? or unemployed? or sick?

what are the limits for all of those?

no the idea is stupid and greedy

Re: on Thursday July 16, 2026 @08:23PM (#48942021)
Neat, did you take any inspiration from Shedskin? It is a Python to C++ compiler.

The perf numbers look decent. What optimizations are you the most proud of?

Do you have plans for eval? what would stop you from supporting eval?

i remember when the TV station would shut down in the middle of the night.

Or businesses would close to do inventory.

We made do.
