Treating your server as pet may perfectly fine. Not everything has to be fully automated cloud cluster cattle.
Most non-tech people I know listen to podcasts through Spotify and some think Spotify invented them.

Looking how podcasts advertise themselves, those who do use RSS advertise "Apple Podcasts or in your favorite podcast app" here.

Nitpick: I think known file extensions where hidden in Explorer since at least Windows 95

You can define a CSP header to only exec 3rd Party scripts with known hashes

That filibustering is still a valid political instrument is so weird as a non american. Maybe the us wouldn't be in this mess if it wouldn't cling to political process from the 1800s

That sounds like a lot like an addiction.

Maybe we need to create "Methadone apps" to help people slowly get off the Pavlovian dopamine machine?

Why not just running a shell script? Is there a benefit doing this on a cluster?

Maybe it's recycling PR/Customer Support/SEO language patterns found in large parts of the training data.
Re:Microsoft Security Bulletin MS98-010 – Critical (1998) on Friday November 03, 2023 @09:49AM (#38128720)
So, Back Orifice wasn't hidden in other executables, but passed on by making people download and install it in all awareness?

Didn't know that. Thanks for telling me instead attacking me like OP :/

Re:Microsoft Security Bulletin MS98-010 – Critical (1998) on Friday November 03, 2023 @05:57AM (#38126511)
Thanks for taking the time to elaborate... and for the insights! I don't know why my initial post is received that aggresively, maybe I miscommunicated something.

I only know the mostly autogenerated MSN Developer Resources. not helpful.

Re:Microsoft Security Bulletin MS98-010 – Critical (1998) on Friday November 03, 2023 @03:59AM (#38125764)
Do they really do that? Or is this hyperbole? I just skimmed some of the 2017 bulletins (aren't there newer ones?) and did not find sleazy marketing.

Not that I can't imagine Microsoft actually doing that...

Can I use this as a testimonial? Chill... at least if you want me to discuss this further.

> Yes, back then it was common and expected that users were responsible for their own decisions.

You do not chose and decide to be victim of a scam. At least I presume the "if you wouldn't have downloaded hacker stuff from weird websites you wouldn't have caught malware" was as wrong back then as it is now and is just shifting the blame to the user.

Re:Microsoft Security Bulletin MS98-010 – Critical (1998) on Friday November 03, 2023 @03:06AM (#38125441)
Wow. Totally unprofessional when you compare it with today's security bulletin standards. This downplays risks and blames the user. Was this common back then?

Re:The Unix Game on Friday October 20, 2023 @08:29AM (#37955181)
You can use tr to replace the pattern [A-Z] with [a-z]

That said, if this unix game wants to showcase the great usability and pragmatism of unix pipes, it has the adverse effect on me. While I like the flexibility of plaintext pipes, I really wish there was a Linux shell that tries to be a bit like powershell without the opinionated powershell syntax... maybe there is?

I didn't know that, thanks. Hopefully it's strictly enforced.

not associated with spam yet. Another TLD for a target audience that will never use the TLD because of it's obscurity so it will only be used by people looking for the cheapest domain to spam and scam.

> Don't just quit and let the amoral/immoral people win

If the opposite is stay and actually make efforts for change then yes. If it is staying and keeping your mouth shut then it's just keeping the status quo. And that may be fine and understandable but don't be offended when called out on that.

I installed it. I only get the (not really pretty) list view from your screenshot. That's it. No login, server settings, not even visiting the communities listed works. The same community entries just keep appending to the list

Am I doing something wrong?

Security nihilism isn't the answer. Just because 100% security is a real hard target we shouldn't just all throw our arms in the air, do nothing, and be all snarky about it.
This hasn't been the case for quite a time https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/1773
Why do I have to be DMCA compliant when reaching a US audience?

Because they want to ensure to be available and reach users there. There is no inherent need, but not playing by the rules may result in being banned from participating in countries. Sometimes that's accepted (your Saudi Arabia example), sometimes ensured via separate services or other tricks (e.g. Chinese markets).
