Check out TinyStart. It’s 5€, and the best 5€ I’ve spent in ages. It’s super fast, and handles basic math. Even lets you put the results on the pasteboard!

Looks great; love the concept and the design. Reminds me in a way (conceptually) of a DOS program I used to use when I was at my desk more. It’s called Carousel, it’s one-file-per-day as well, but multiple topics which you rotate through (hence Carousel). I don’t need this kind of thing as much anymore, but I appreciate the creativity that goes into them, and knowing they’re out there.

I hadn’t thought about it before, but you’re right: the grocery delivery folks in the UK were always quite cheerful! We used Ocado mostly, and their drivers were always happy for a chat while unloading.

I’ve been using a DOS editor called Carousel. The “carousel” bit is that you can cycle through a number of files in named directories. Every day you start with a new file named by date.

It’s been excellent for me. I recently had an issue with my Yolink notifications being marked spam and phishing. I raised it with support, they immediately escalated, and it got sorted quickly.

Something is up with your web page. It stutters when scrolling, and crashes my tab. I’m using Safari on an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 18.6.2 (22G100). No content blockers or extensions.

I turn 49 tomorrow, and my kid’s next birthday will be her 11th. I have a lot more spending on her ahead!

I don’t know that they’d need to be, though. British-style baked beans come in tomato sauce. I just checked my tins, and they’re 36% tomato according to the ingredients list. Unfortunately they’re not that cheap anymore. We pay over CDN$2+tax per tin these days if you buy the multipack. A far cry from the CDN$1.50 all-in those Tesco beans would be.
Wholeheartedly agree. I much prefer the pre-David unknown origin Alien. And the Dark Horse era space jockeys over the engineers.
> "Xenomorph" is not any sort of official in-universe term for these things

In his briefing (about 23 minutes in in the Disney+ version of Aliens), Gorman says “all we know is there is still no contact with the colony, and a xenomorph may be involved.”

Give Whisky a shot. Yeah, it’s a 20 year old game, but I was able to get Half-Life 2 running at 1080p with all settings maxed on my Mac Mini. The only slow down I experienced was when a bunch of barrels exploded at the same time.

Re:Manual for Larry Tesler's PUB markup language. on Saturday November 16, 2024 @09:06AM (#42156510)
My grandad worked on a computerized press in this era. He primarily printed short-run text books for southern Ontario universities. Whatever markup they used had a syntax that allowed emboldening and italicization, but you had to specify the end of the formatting (obviously). Professors never would, and the first run of a book would always be all bold and italic. The profs would get mad, and tell him “the computer should JUST KNOW.”
Much of coffee's flavour comes from a balance of acids and oils. These, particularly the oils, are sensitive to temperature. But unless you're drinking your coffee all day, you're unlikely to notice it. Real spoiling sets in after several hours at the kinds of heat you're probably running your Ember mug at. Most drip brewers with heating elements for the pot keep the temperature too high (often just below boiling). A steady heat is much better for the flavour than reheating. (This is what I remember from working at a coffee shop way, WAY back when I was at university.)
You misunderstand. The previous comment was about public defenders, not defence contractors.
I lost out on a front end job about 15 years ago because I marked up a business’s open and close hours in a table during a coding test. I was told that my skills were clearly out of date.

Re:Milk Bag on Monday August 28, 2023 @09:18AM (#37293494)
I just moved back to Canada from the UK. In the UK we got our milk from a local dairy in glass bottles with a wee foil tab on the mouth. Occasionally the magpies would get to it before we did, and we had a couple bottles go bad in a heat wave, but generally it worked great. Now I’m back to buying bags of milk within bags, and the amount of waste is shocking. Can’t recycle it where I am.

My first real exposure to Lua was as the configuration language of imapfilter. Absolutely loved both.

I used to set my laundry to run so that when I got up in the morning it would be ready to hang or run through the dryer. When my old machine broke the landlord replaced it with this garbage Beko that locks the door during the delay period. Such a small, and yet profoundly stupid design decision that completely changes the way I use the machine in the negative.

Highly recommended. They used to have a gaming-focused satellite in the Grand Arcade. It’s gone, now, but I heard a rumour they may bring it back in the summer.
At the Code Club for which I volunteer the next step is Python. We use the Raspberry Pi projects[1] which use the Tinker[2] repl.

I volunteer for a code club, so maybe I can help you out. I’m not sure what I’m missing in your issue, but Scratch scripts run continuously once the green flag is clicked. You can stop execution programmatically using the stop() block.

I bought a couple of the Budget Bytes (https://shop.budgetbytes.com) meal plans a while back. They're not fantastic if you're outside of North America, but I was able to make them work. Haute cuisine it ain't, but if you're looking for a starting point I recommend them.

I also recommend starting to put your favourite recipes into a recipe app (I use Paprika, available on most platforms). Even add simple stuff like Yogurt and Fruit Breakfast. Then you can use the app's built-in meal planner and grocery list generator.

The elitism is in calling what is absolutely the largest market for gaming "wannabe". I have sunk tonnes of money and time into gaming, and I spend a lot of time helping friends get familiar with games so they can play with their kids. But I am absolutely not competitive. It's ridiculously insulting for you to call me a "wannabe".
Well, we're halfway there. "Last year, cassette sales grew 28% to 440,000 units, up from 343,000 in 2021."

Re:Amazon ends charity donation program AmazonSmile on Friday January 20, 2023 @02:03AM (#34449998)
This announcement falls into a category I like to call “we are closing to serve you better.”
Re:Amazon ends charity donation program AmazonSmile on Friday January 20, 2023 @02:01AM (#34449994)
Tax deductions for charitable donations are not a thing everywhere in the world. Here in the UK it kind of is, but the charity has to claim it, ands back 25p on each £1.

But more to your point: I have six committed monthly donors for the PTFA for which I’m treasurer. I have at least a couple dozen individuals signed up for AmazonSmile and Easy Fundraising.

I don’t have that on this particular site, but in my experience that particular defect is caused by a browser plug in that blocks cookie banners or newsletter pop ups. Try disabling them and reloading.
