Most people or organisations can just wait until the public get bored of that issue and forget about them, but for the Royals that doesn't work because they are _always_ in the public eye. There's enough demand for Royal news that if nothing else is happening, the press will quite happily rake over old sores. The only way out is to feed the press with constant new material.
There are loads of videos of Ukrainian FPV drones with thermal cameras hunting Russians trying to hide using something like space blankets. The blankets work up to a point, if the target were completely covered they would be hard to spot, but if parts of the soldier are not covered or are revealed during movement, it doesn't work out well for the target.
The videos remind me of the scene in Dune where Paul is hiding from the hunter-seeker that tracks based on movement.
How they were's struck off is beyond me.
Sure, but both can be true. The internet bubble bursting did not kill the internet. All that investment in severs and fibre was still there, and still got used. A lot of investors lost their shirts, but the Internet future still happened.
OpenAI going bust would not cause those data centres to cease to exist, they’d still be there just owned for cheap by someone else that can run them at cost.
A crash would drastically cut investment and research funding, but research would still happen. New companies would rise from the ashes of the old. It might still trigger a recession though.
If the capital cost gets written off, because it can never be recouped, then there’s only the operating cost left.
Suppose OpenAI goes bust tomorrow and all those data centres get sold for pennies on the dollar. Whoever buys them can operate them at cost.
At this point AI company valuations only make sense if each of them captures most of the value of the entire IT sector. Soon. If that doesn’t happen, it’s a matter of time before reality catches up, but how much time? Who knows. It could be years still.
Or AI could in the next few years generate more value than the whole IT sector a few times over. That would be cool.
The investments these companies are making depends entirely on the confidence that number go up, a lot, very quickly and soon.
Number go down, or even not go up as much as expected, is not good. These valuations are entirely matters of confidence. When that goes away…
Of course, which shows how real the threat is to Google.
The risk of not putting in AI is that someone else does, users like it and Google’s lock on search gets compromised.
That would be a much, much more existential risk for Google. It may well be worth a substantial hit to revenue and even market cap to stave off that possibility.
The 27" 5K iMacs are great, I'm writing this on a 2020 model. So disappointed they went away. I'm resigning myself to having to go with a mini and a separate display when the time comes.
My first gen 5k iMac (2014) is our kitchen machine these days. Still a joy to use. The final gen (2020) model is still my main machine.
I almost wish one of them would konk out so I can get an M series, but then I wouldn’t be on a 5k iMac anymore, which would suck. Love these machines.
Kind of, but without a sub you only get a trivial amount of storage.
Pro chips come much later than base chips and vary significantly in ways other than number of cores (which can be up to double), such as doubled memory bandwidth and peripheral support (thunderbolt 5 instead of 4).

If you are invaded you're in a war whether you like it or not. At that point there are three ways to end up with less war. Surrender, force a truce, or win.
And I imagine time. A significant issue for a lot of medical situations.
As far as I can tell it's actually Office 365 Copilot for Windows 11 with Copilot, for Copilot+ PCs.
So that’s why Florida is sinking into the ocean.
We have some copies of royal correspondence found in Egypt, written on cuneiform tablets. They used them for messages to foreign kings because they're compact and durable. A lot of the surviving tablets are begging letters asking the Egyptians for gold. We even have some practice tablets from teaching Egyptian scribes to do this.
Anyway I think some of these documents are of communications with Hittite kings, so it would be great to get some instances of the "other side" of some of these letters.
From the draft law: "(Explicit provisions on the school's responsibility for care and access to physical intervention, including an extended legal basis for the use of force, etc.)"
So it uses the terms "physical intervention", and "use of force", although that's using Google Translate.
Design was important enough to you to post your own comment talking about it and your own preferences, and how important it is to competition, so why are you questioning it's importance to someone else?
> OAI/Anthropic COULD stop their models from doing what they are doing…
Has the alignment problem been solved, then?
Reducing the cost of a desirable service or product often has a tendency to increased demand for that service or product, and means customers have more capital available to purchase other products and services increasing demand for those. These factors are significant drivers of overall economic growth.
Of course economic growth has it's own problems in terms of ecological impact and such, but if you want to reduce ecological impact you still need to improve productivity. It's a matter of how you spend that efficiency improvement as a society.
I come from a different era. Back in the 70s and 80s every home or business computer worked differently (BBC, Aplle ][, Spectrum, Commodore, etc); at Uni we used DOS computers, a Prime mini-computer and some stuff I can't remember; My first job was also using a Prime, and DOS, and various Unix workstations running Motif or OpenWindows. Getting used to a new way of doing things on almost every computer you rocked up to was the normal state of affairs. Kids these days.....
It's not an assumption, many of the people behind these projects explicitly say this what they are doing and why.
They aren't trying to 'solve' chess, go, or mathematical proofs as an end in themselves, but mainly in order to learn more about how to build better systems overall. The goal of AlphaZero was ultimately as a stepping stone towards AGI, and it's the same with LLMs.
What do you mean by 'not pagan'? The fact that pre-christian Greek philosophy was key in forming Christian metaphysics is exactly what I'm saying. These ideas didn't originate in Christianity, so it would be a stretch to credit them to Christianity or claim that they are intrinsically Christian when they are equally intrinsically Greek pagan.
We will not all (even 80% of us) be using electric vehicles in 10 years, or even 20 years. I don’t think even half of new vehicles will be fully electric by then, let alone half of all vehicles on the road.
I've always used my real name, since I first got on to the internet in the early 90s. It's never been a problem. Big Tech and your own government know who you really are anyway, as do the big online advertisers. Pseudonyms are no defence against that. There is a potential risk from griefers, but they have ways and means as well.
