There is no system where you can get more than a share of what the economy produces currently.

Paid contributions should only ensure that you get a part of that, a bit more if you paid more, less if you paid less.

If workforce/economy halves when pensioners double, you will get 4x less than you "expect".

+1 high speed should only be enabled by multiple redundant safety system being operational. Otherwise, it needs to operate at line of sight speeds.
Linux is no better... Why should I ever allow "xdg-portal-something" access to "wallet" when I start chromium (or some app embeds it)?
Re:Old.reddit.com Gone on Thursday October 29, 2026 @03:39AM (#50285613)
Yup... stopped working, so I can't browser reddit anymore anywhere where I'm not logged in (work, phone, tablet).
Re:Four Months of Zig on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:12AM (#50272343)
You could easily have explicit RAAI... the compiler just needs to complain until you write all drop(x) explicitly. Maybe an idea for future of Zig.
Re:Show HN: Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices on Friday October 23, 2026 @05:02AM (#50206227)
Yes, Android is worse in some ways that it was 10 versions ago.
Someone fork under new name to have these 2 changes as default.
Re:Wayland desktop for Linux with skeuomorphic design on Friday October 16, 2026 @03:36AM (#50115321)
Or an alternative solution, fork to remove Adwaita.
Re:Tiny Little Office on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:05AM (#50101992)
Maybe it's slop now, but the idea should be packaged into client side applications.
Re:Making big downloads resumable in Firefox on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:32AM (#50067604)
It would be good to have a hash as part of headers, otherwise this is not an acceptable risk by default.
Re:Passkeys are a trap. Do not use them on Monday October 12, 2026 @09:49AM (#50056443)
If I can sync from phone (Android and also iOS), to Linux / browser (Firefox), that's fine. Or is it?
Re:Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs on Friday October 09, 2026 @03:09AM (#50017091)
Maybe Pause key could be used for legacy "Ctrl+Z" and "Ctrl+Break" for Ctrl+C
Re:Keyboard differences between Windows and Macs on Friday October 09, 2026 @03:05AM (#50017060)
I immediately swapped the Alt/Cmd when I had to use a Mac...

Regarding Fn even Thinkpad has now changed it so Ctrl is in the corner.

Re:A 40ms Go garbage collector pause caused by swap on Monday October 05, 2026 @03:39AM (#49961800)
It would probably make sense to disable swapping "code" also for non-GC languages (or at least do it as a last resort).
It's a turbo that muffles the sound (and resulting reduced revs because high RPM was restricted due to cost reasons).
I remember when there was Eurocard/Mastercard...
The only reason I'd consider buying a Chromebook is to install Linux on it... Same is true for Googlebook.
Re:Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric on Friday September 25, 2026 @02:38AM (#49840929)
Tesla Model 3 is a huge car for Europe. I would never consider it due to that.
Re:Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop on Thursday September 24, 2026 @10:10AM (#49830878)
That sounds great, but I don't fully agree... IMO a compositor should be able to provide a data structure (unchangeable, mostly or fully opaque) that the app can save/restore across sessions.
There's a name for when they don't: e-waste.
Maybe they were testing spoiled food detection /s
Re:Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 Series on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:18AM (#49828172)
That's not a full solution... proper platform would have backward compatibility, so an OS from today will work on hardware released in 5 years.
Re:Markdown in /src on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:31AM (#49815869)
yet is extremely load-bearing here.
Re:Markdown in /src on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @04:34AM (#49813203)
So, if .md is the new "source", target LLM generated sources should be removed from VCS?
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:40PM (#49756869)
Then passkeys are a guarantee of account loss, if there is no reasonable way of recovery.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @08:31AM (#49753464)
Is there a reason why passkeys couldn't be used in "expire-periodically" mode?
Re:Minimal Phone 2 on Friday September 18, 2026 @03:19AM (#49751139)
Is this missing Android navigation buttons? I wonder if they considered to have them physical again.
They could offer controlled "failure of service" service where they randomly take stuff offline and you have to pay to get it back if you don't have a backup/recovery strategy.
Ironically, most XML signatures I had to use, they usually didn't schema validate.
Re:Show HN: 1080p is 920px tall – 1k real browser viewports on Monday September 14, 2026 @07:01AM (#49694873)
Blame the browsers for making it hard to download/store/view offline.
