Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:15PM (#50292551)
ding ding ding, I cannot see right now anyone else "winning" AI... I hope for a local future where this doesn't happen but otherwise... yeah
firefox (148.0.2) on linux, the preview for me is not working

tried them on chrome, it works fine, nice work

Great, let's see how it works out.

Firefox for Android has been killing it for me with the latest ux updates, I didn't expect major improvements there and was pleasantly surprised.

Re:Sidekick: Local-first native macOS LLM app on Tuesday March 11, 2025 @08:27AM (#43331747)
Very cool, trying it out, I'm unable to make it do a search tho, on the experts it says it's deactivated on the settings but I couldn't find a setting for it, maybe it's model dependent and the default model can't do it?
Re:Jelly Star – The Smallest Android 13 Smartphone on Sunday July 14, 2024 @02:24AM (#40959228)
Why offer a crappy default Spanish translation when you can just not?

- The name of the product is broken "Jelly Star Estrella" instead of Jelly Star

- "Descubrir Jelly Star Estrella" instead of "Descubre Jelly Star"

- "Jelly Star Estrella Presenta un diseño" consistently uppercasing the first word disregarding their product name in the sentence

- "Jelly Star EstrellaLa luz LED" or just not leaving spaces

- "Aparece en dos colores" instead of "Disponible en dos colores"

I got tired reading an IA generated translation not reviewed by one single human that spoke the language, that went through some quick copy and paste.

Concept looks cool, I just can't trust them on quality.

It's not perfect, but keepass does have keeshare, basically one or many sub-dbs on different files that integrates into the main one seamlessly, so in my home we have a 'shared' db each and we can read it and update it from our main dbs.
Re:Welcome to Teams 2.0 on Monday March 27, 2023 @04:10PM (#35331753)
My company made us move to this from Slack, killed all online camaraderie that existed in the enterprise to save some bucks.

Hope at least now it's usable, would love to be able to enumerate things, use code blocks, etc... it's a bit of a nightmare for day to day work as it was, so I'm glad at least there is some movement, as we are basically captive audience.

Re:So you've installed `fzf`. Now what? on Tuesday March 21, 2023 @01:38PM (#35249614)
Not parent but on pop-os, using sudo apt install zfz I got the same behavior, had to add it myself to .bashrc
Re:Firefox Multi-Account Containers on Sunday February 12, 2023 @04:26PM (#34767168)
for 1) do look into the temporary containers extension.
https://sickmartian.com/trackendar/

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sickmartia...

Trackendar, an habit tracking calendar app. Not currently monetized, got some initial traction, put ads which I promptly removed as they made the app look like shit and had some 'add ons' with which I made between 400-500 USD, I didn't get to see that money as getting an USD payment in Argentina was a PITA so the US has them now :/

All local data, so no cost except a lot of time learning 'old' android and constantly maintaining whatever google wants to change or deprecate + updating the date/time library with the latest TZ changes. Has more features that it needs or users want to learn to use like categories, themes, reports...

Re:Ask HN: Does this idea make any sense? on Sunday July 17, 2022 @04:16PM (#32130792)
Really depends on where you are I guess, but I found no info about you in the link.. also the top right link that says how many spots are left sends me to google.
Re:Apple Cash on Monday May 23, 2022 @07:19AM (#31477581)
In argentina you can set an 'alias' for your account, if you don't you get one by default... I put my name as alias, I started getting payments from people I don't know o.O
Congratulations on the launch! It looks very useful and easy to use as well
I live in Argentina, we breathe high inflation.. it's not nice, but good companies will compete on how to handle this, currently:

- Some companies pay part of the salary in a stronger currency (USD) - I get this is probably not viable for your current scenario, and it a perk I don't actually get, but my wife does.

- Some companies have quarterly or bi-monthly inflation rate adjustments, this is semi-automatic, we subscribe to an independent party that measures inflation and whatever number they come with goes, this is because Argentina has a history of fudging the numbers to make the government look good.

It will still require adjustments from the individuals, even if you have a cooperating employer, for example you probably want to buy stuff as soon as you get paid, otherwise you are losing money.

What I do is have a weekly reminder I call 'alignment' set for the weekend, this one can't be skipped and for that it should be very easy to go through, in my case when I see this one I go to Trello and check some notes I have there that explain how I see the world, what I want to accomplish and the goals, should take around 5 to 10', based on these goals it's when I create those small daily reminders for the habits I want to cultivate.

So, worst that can happen is I miss a week and I'm then reminded of why I wanted to do this and I can get started for next week.

The most important thing is to be kind to yourself, run or walk at your own pace, falling a couple of times doesn't mean you have to give up, eventually you will get there, even if you skip a couple of days or weeks or give up for a short time and take over later on. It's self improvement, nobody is supposed to be perfect.

> I have this bad habit of clicking my mouse on the whitespace of any web page I visit (I guess I am the only one).

That makes two of us. I agree but don't stay away, I use old.reddit w/reddit enhancement suite, doesn't fix incognito for me as I don't let addons run there, but using containers on firefox instead helps.

Re:Drunk Post: Things I've Learned as a Sr Engineer on Sunday May 30, 2021 @07:52PM (#27338225)
yeah, it is referenced later on.. it's a drunken post, so a bit disorganized :D
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend going the IaP route either for a small app with no marketing.

Users will think they have right for personalized support (which makes sense, of course) and will contact you for refunds, the reviews will get meaner as well and then you have to keep the library updated.

I got a notice that I have to re-do the IaP code on my app, an app that made me $600 over it's lifetime of which I saw nil because of how hard (and expensive really) it is to get the money into my country... just removed the whole purchase thing, it should make some users happy and my life easier.

Point b, "if you don't like it go back to your country"... they might be earning more, but the cost of living is WAY more than in their home country, I agree that they might be able to save some to no go back empty handed or to send back to their family, but why should they suffer in the meantime?

Re:Show HN: Angeldust – a fast and efficient video game on Monday December 23, 2019 @06:19AM (#21862941)
It's showing up for me in the App Store, macOS Mojave 10.14.6 (18G1012) from Argentina. Hope it helps with diagnosing somehow, and good luck with the project, looks impressive.

As an ABAP developer, we are on a planet next to yours...

There are efforts for all those things, but it's still painful.

Re:Equifax Argentinian portal secured with admin/admin on Tuesday September 12, 2017 @09:42PM (#15234806)
Yes, this is stupid. One thing to note thou, DNI is not supposed to be secret or used as a secret in practice.
Re:Ask HN: Is Google security really this stupid? on Sunday April 30, 2017 @08:35AM (#14231251)
I agree that security method a) seems useless, but b) is still good if you take time into account. You know when the account was 'secure' and the forwarding address that was setup can be considered a safe way to recover the password if the user opts in on that (there is surely some use cases for the forward that I'm not thinking about).

Re:The end of smartphone innovation on Sunday March 26, 2017 @09:16AM (#13960623)
You wear the controls to your own wearable computer/smartphone, which might or not be linked to a better one on the environment that can do a lot more for you.
