Re:Human coders are still better than LLMs on Friday May 30, 2025 @03:13AM (#44133738)

Re:Human coders are still better than LLMs on Friday May 30, 2025 @03:00AM (#44133658)

Re:LLMs Get Lost in Multi-Turn Conversation on Friday May 16, 2025 @12:35AM (#44001872)

Re:Gemini Robotics brings AI into the physical world on Wednesday March 12, 2025 @01:14PM (#43345423)
Google make almost all their money from search, an extremely lucrative property, which is under threat from all the new ai players.

So while they have a bunch of cool tech on the possibility horizon the only thing the market cares about is the ability to make money and there's some uncertainty on that front.

these are the entry level cards, i imagine the coming higher end variants will have the option of much more ram.
Sorry what? Shelter is a necessity for survival.

Is it communism to not allow people to buy up all the water supplies and sell it back to you at an extortionate rate?

The truth about the housing market is that it's not a free market anyway it's controlled by special interests, bad laws, zoning, local nimbys and councils the list goes on.

Re:Running Quake on an FPGA (Custom MRISC32 CPU) [video] on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @02:31PM (#39032276)
surely we could already do 1khz displays with OLED, but i assumed that the bandwidth required to meet that wouldn't be available on any of todays display outputs.
Re:Amazon's Twitch to Cut 500 Employees, About 35% of Staff on Tuesday January 09, 2024 @06:05PM (#38933619)
Any idea why south korea is particularly cost prohibitive? i would assume twitch would be very keen to have a presence there.
the license doesn't transfer if the company is bought.

Re:Republican Rand Paul blocks TikTok ban on Wednesday March 29, 2023 @09:56PM (#35366771)

Re:Silicon Valley Learns to Love Socialism for the Rich on Monday March 13, 2023 @05:39PM (#35143201)
In a just world these people would be stripped of everything they own.
yeah i was thinking the same thing, at the very least it's not designed with accessibility in mind and could easily trick people who are more vision impaired.
i feel like lawyers will be able to legally keep AI out of their field for a while yet. they have the tools at their disposal to do so and a huge incentive.

other fields like journalism not so much.

Re:TikTok Spied on Forbes Journalists on Thursday December 22, 2022 @05:01PM (#34099406)
The west doesn't just give everyone unlimited market access, especially if it's not reciprocated.
Re:TikTok Spied on Forbes Journalists on Thursday December 22, 2022 @04:37PM (#34099093)
it is a national risk but i imagine there's also economic / trade grounds in the fact that china doesn't let american companies compete in their market.

I don't see any reason for it not to be in the purview of government.

Re:TikTok Spied on Forbes Journalists on Thursday December 22, 2022 @04:36PM (#34099077)
i mean only technically in name only.
Re:TikTok Spied on Forbes Journalists on Thursday December 22, 2022 @04:32PM (#34099031)
personally despite all that, it seems weird that western social network / tech companies aren't able to operate in china but the reverse is fine.
Re:I tried starting a manufacturing unit in India on Friday October 28, 2022 @01:41PM (#33374644)

Re:SimulaVR Has Been Subpoenaed by Meta Platforms, Inc on Thursday October 06, 2022 @04:05PM (#33113341)
man, hacker news is just not what it used to be.
That's missing the point, Apple owns the platform and are using that dominance to push people out while pushing themselves in.

Using your dominance in one industry like that could fall afoul of anti monopoly laws.
