Peak dystopia is close.
It took ~10 years for flexible screens using OLEDs to be mass producible. 10 years seems to be the norm as of now for things produced under research conditions to enter mass production/usage, are there counter examples?

- The haters have not changed their mind despite their hatred being addressed, they've moved on to other reasons.

- Bitcoin continues to improve.

On a serious note, that's a good summary, thank you!

I don't like Bananas. Instead of just not buying them at the grocery store and not eating them, I'll post a negative comment whenever someone mentions Bananas.

Bananas are bad for you! Bananas suck! Bananas are a scam!

What does tether have to do with bitcoin's block reward halving? I couldn't see any references to it here: http://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin

"tether bad, so bitcoin bad!"

Was it an on-site interview? I’m curious how he was able to convince you to install the env.

Capitalism is amoral

Edit: This wasn't posted as a judgement, it's just an observation of a trend.

People always prioritize the remembering self over the experiencing self :). Like someone else pointed out, you can strike a balance between the two.

This. I have first hand experience in this phenomenon multiple times. Complexity helps this effect too.
This is great! The Expanse has a similar theme around the EAILD, they have the protomolecule instead.
I wonder at what point would it make sense to start exposing a part of your "software development pipeline" to the external world and then hiring people after they've proven themselves on your pipeline (with compensation). Think lambda school but for your own company.
Serious question to the author: Can we know how many hires you've made that you're happy about? what is your interviewing process like?

For the purposes of fraud prevention, payment processors can be viewed as an escrow service (along with other things, of course). This can still be programmed on top of bitcoin, someone like amazon/eBay can build this escrow system and charge a fee.
My hypothesis around this was younger (or curious people) would just "get" the UI and the older people won't be on the app or not be as active.

In any case, I'm not one to judge a programming system by its artwork. I hope people don't get discouraged by it and not try it out, It's a phenomenal system for translating thoughts to programs.

For someone who's familiar with the "IDE" shown in the artwork, I was able to quickly parse the different components and it conveyed a vague sense of excitement :).

> I don't think you can explain this by simply categorizing people

I was not trying to categorize people, but I was trying to abstractly point out how this might happen, but I used a "category" to explain it simply.

> I think initially the Internet brought people closer together. It was like ham radio - you could connect with people in a relatively small but very distributed community of hobbyists and experts. Once everyone joined and it became ubiquitous, it's had the opposite effect - it's replaced most of our social interactions but there's an increased anonymity and social separation.

Exactly!

"nerds" is just a type of social circle, who're also the initial adopters of a tech, you don't want to be an outcast by doing something that is not "nerdy" in the early stages, because it is easily noticeable by other nerds of that tech. When the social circle expands to potentially bring in other types of social circles (by going mainstream) and becomes (pseudo)anonymous, you'll obviously find a large variation of (acceptable) behaviors among the different social circles, which may or may not overlap with each other.

> Of course, you couldn't do this nowadays because abusive people would show up and ruin it for everyone. I don't know why they didn't back then.

People who had early access to Internet (or any tech) were more likely to be nerds.

Maybe we (or is it just me?), a collection of brains are the ones simulating the universe.

In that case, is Bitcoin really a cult? or is there a cult that is using Bitcoin?

small correction: s/is/starts out as/g

To the telephone counter-examples in the responses: early telephone users were probably "culty" until the mainstream adopted it for useful stuff.
