Sure. Agreed. HN needs better discourse.

Is there a “Delete Account” feature here? How do I go about deleting my account, including ALL my comments/submissions over the last 10 years.

I want to leave absolutely ZERO footprint on HN. As if I was never ever here. How do I make it happen?

Thank you.

I don’t know which country you live in, but in the United States of America, all this talk of “fairness of law” is a fairytale at best.

And no, you can’t convince me otherwise.

They need tougher laws & throw these digital attention whores into prison for 2 years. Deny them access to their IG, or all SM, for the entire time.

Guaranteed to stop bad behavior.

Habeas corpus called & would like to be thawed from deep freeze.

The presumption of innocence in American society died a long time ago, with Gitmo, CIA black sites & NSLs. What little was still left, is being killed every day with asylum seeker kids being abused in border ‘shelters’.

Long live habeas corpus & the American conscience.

In a somewhat similar vein, learning & practicing “deliberate gratitude” saved my sanity.

Taking a mindfulness class was what introduced me to the concept, but regular practice of gratitude helped save my mind (and perhaps my life!).

This. So much this. FoE is attacked from both sides. Each with their own self-serving justifications.
From my point-of-view, two opinion points:

1. I am glad that 737 MAX has been grounded. May it stay that way, globally, until this issue is provably resolved.

2. The entire Boeing chain of management that resulted in these crashes should be publicly flogged, their remuneration & benefits clawed back & subject to a mandatory minimum prison sentence.

Who the hell am I kidding! Neither is very likely to happen in the present day US. Carry on then, I guess. Just make sure to sign your Last Will & Testament before taking that next flight.

It’s thanks to crap like this & the total lack of original innovation on the iPhone platform, that I am seriously considering the Samsung S10, after 8 years of exclusive iPhone use.

Post-Jobs Apple is over & done for. They are in “rent collection” mode now.

So long & thanks for all the fun. It was good while it lasted.

Re:The AI-Art Gold Rush Is Here on Saturday March 09, 2019 @08:11AM (#19345948)
Going through the images, I shake my head in disbelief. So much of “art” is selling crap to the filthy rich, who have nothing better to do with their time or money.

Maybe, I don’t “get” it. To each their own, I guess.

There is a business opportunity here, so it only makes sense that someone is exploiting it.

Once self driving vehicles are the norm, such rules would become default.

overpriced Bluetooth speakers

What other BT speakers are quantitatively better and cheaper?

Vision is an important part of my navigational ability, but I can (very rarely) sense location with eyes closed - eg. with eyes closed on a train/airplane being able to guess where I am on the journey (hard to explain, sorry).
I am not sure what to make of this. My spatial sense is immaculate - I can sense direction/orientation extremely well - I have near-perfect recall of "way to destination" - so much so that after having visited any previously unknown location once, I can navigate back to it years later without much effort.

Time, on the other hand, is a complete mystery to me - I can not tell if a few minutes have passed or hours. I am totally dependent on my clock and calendar to be a functional adult. Similarly, I have no sense of rhythm, beats etc. Nada, zilch, zero.

Makes sense though. If your herd is being attacked by a pack of wolves, as long as there is someone slower/weaker/dumber than you, they’ll become the target and your likelihood of staying alive goes up.

TLDR: don’t be last, second to last is still OK. I guess.

What's your beef with using "a lot of SaaS services, with no on-premises solution"? Why waste money by locking it into on-premises hardware?

Have fun trying to get it unfrozen.

Why? Is it really that hard getting it unfrozen?

Re:3D Color Print on Tuesday February 06, 2018 @07:21AM (#16315785)
Merely sharing a strongly held opinion here.

HP is the cancer of modern printing - anyone who crossed paths with their “region locked” printers/cartridges - can attest to that statement.

Re:3D Color Print on Monday February 05, 2018 @10:30PM (#16314242)
Not touching an HP printer with a barge pole. Fuck you HP.
Damn! So, practically, no modern processor (or consumer laptop, or enterprise server) is safe from Spectre?

Time to go off the beaten path.

I hope they sue the underpants off each officer, their supervisor, the SFPD and the warrant issuing judge - who, in turn, should jail the person(s) providing the wrong IMEI, for perjury and contempt of court.

Well, what now? What are these mothers going to do about it?
DNA = A blueprint for something that makes me unique, and the only known way to travel through time, into the future — in the most sentient form I know of — as a ”not me, but still me” human.
Yeah, well, that’s like, your opinion man.

Good thing you don’t get to control who’s genes propagate and who’s don’t. All you can do is prevent your genes from being inherited. And, that is your sole prerogative. Just as spreading my genes, is mine.

Not fear. Just the certainity of death.
Not an ideological drive, i.e. not driven primarily by ideology. Driven more by a primitive will for my physicality to survive beyond my physical lifetime.
In my opinion, the only opinion that matters to my life, yes, I’m that unique and the world needs my genome. :P
Good for you. Me, on the other hand, would like to see my genome multiply and spread on this planet.
Re:Vietnam Deploys Cyber Warriors to Fight ‘Wrongful Views' on Wednesday December 27, 2017 @08:33AM (#16014632)
Actually, it is. It is very much a technical problem. Technology has not yet provided a super-fast, truly decentralized, perfectly uncensorable “Internet for All” solution. If we had that, a lot of this discussion would be moot.

Someone in Dalat could teach Vietnamese to any number of foreigners, without any adversary being the wiser. Anyone in China could read up on Tiannenmen Square or the “Free Tibet” movement without fear of arrest. People in Indonesia could watch any film they wish.

“Laws” in any country on this planet are not immutable, immaculate/divine, absolute, or axiomatic. They can and should be changed — regardless of the concerns of those in power. And the only reliable way to ensure change is education, information and discussion — all unfettered, uncensored and unbridled.

Until technology guarantees that, we as ‘techies’ have not delivered. And please, don’t tell me about Tor and “teh darkwubs” — that is not a realistic solution for 99% of the online population — too slow and still not bulletproof.

Technology needs to do better.
