It works really well and it's just a single static binary file (ffmpeg is needed on your $PATH), easier to use than ffsubsync which needs gcc to compile random stuff, and that stopped working randomly
Sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that

Re:Solving Factorio Quality
on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @03:26AM (#49905582)
I've tried to get into Factorio multiple times because I really love 2D isometric games, but the learning curve is incredibly steep. In my opinion, franchises like the original Command & Conquer were much more accessible for non-hardcore gamers like myself. Factorio feels less like a game and more like managing a complex software architecture.

I used to have that similar T470 laptop 5 years ago and it worked really nice. Given that it was company owned, it came out with Windows 10 enterprise, but never felt it underperforming.
It's hard to come by that gnome is slower than windows 10
Re:TiVo to charge money for skipping commercials in your own recordings
on Monday September 07, 2026 @06:15PM (#49603575)
You can use yt-dlp with sponsorblock timings directly [0] to get rid of all the sponsorship segments from the final video, no need to use it later via mpv.

They left the consumer market decades ago, as you mentioned, but they've been thriving in the enterprise and government sectors.

Not an IBMer, but IBM MQ and Sterling Connect:Direct are both solid, I use them daily and they work wonderfully, although they can be a real bitch to set up and use in certain scenarios.

Re:Why some US restaurants are banning tips
on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @08:00AM (#49432424)
Since COVID many restaurants (in Spain at least) no longer offer you a menu, you can view it via a QR code that there's on every table.
Also, those times depend on the place and location. The ones I've been lately were pretty fast

Re:Show HN: Chiptune Radio
on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @09:46AM (#48831914)
I was able to extract the audio URL track via yt-dlp. Ifyou also add ffmpeg, a FIFO and soco-cli in the mix I was able to play it back on my Sonos speaker, although I had to jump a lot of hoops to curb the HLS stream into a standard shoutcast/icecast URL stream.
All of that to end into a bland chiptunes radio, not worth all that effort

There are not many big vendors that are EU first apart from SAP, SuSE and a handful more. Nothing similar to what MS, IBM, Google, Intel, AMD , Nvidia or Meta provide.
