Re:AI is Taking Water from the Desert on Sunday March 03, 2024 @02:12PM (#39583436)
I enjoy the implication that these massive cities we've built in the scorching desert that don't have any water of their own aren't to blame in the slightest. Like it's impossible to build server infra anywhere else than one of the hottest places on the continent.

We're 4 levels deep on a comment specifically about gemini, good try with the dramatic subject change though. You tried to argue that intentionally injecting what you believe to be righteous bias into an LLM is a superior moral position than not doing so and I disagree. Your outrage about Palestinian children doesn't convince me otherwise.
It's sad that some people will probably believe this disgusting shit you're spouting. They posted hundreds if not thousands of videos of themselves all over the internet on sites like 4chan the day it happened.
Wrong. You simply pointed out that there is sexual assault on both sides, which is not a real response to the post you replied to directly, and not a good post in the context of the whole thread. My response does indeed directly address your post, but also the thread as a whole, which is about sending aid.
Pointing out the fact that both sides do bad things doesn't cancel any of it out. We know for a fact that the leaders of Hamas are billionaires that live in Qatar, this money was embezzled from aid and we know it was.

I'll never forget the video of a naked, dead woman being drug behind a pickup truck while crowds of not-terrorists cheer.

Picking a fight with someone bigger and stronger than you does not give you the moral high ground.

Gleefully and proudly starting a war by murdering a bunch of people at concert and filming as much of it as possible while you do it, and then immediately crying foul and demanding a ceasefire as soon as you suffer retaliation just doesn't impress me much.

I like how you've painted "telling the truth" as some scummy moral failing.

The very obvious patterns we're seeing are not patterns at all! Oh right, brilliant lol.
Ya it's hard to be sure that when people express disdain and/or hatred of "white" people that they are or aren't including arabs. /rolleyes
I'm a human and I don't have the slightest idea what you're asking for.
After running a bunch of models on my own PC (a pretty good one), I have to say by FAR the best results for coding has been with Deepseek models. However, I just spent 20 minutes playing with this Phind 70B model and it's totally nailing the questions I'm asking it. Pretty impressed.

"if you can't afford to raise a child and some other additional costs that are unrelated, like a dog, then you can't afford a child". Oh ok that makes perfect sense, thanks for holding the snide, lol

interesting, do all dogs go to heaven?

Cool, but if I want raw fish I'll just not put it in the oven I think.
Re:Cancer Alley on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @05:49PM (#39034700)
It seems like lowest effort submission possible to me. It's not really related to tech news at all. There's no recent news or changes. The op didn't post anything about why they found it interesting. The conversation happening here is sparse and not interesting. Aside from the fact that I've had comments downvoted for "being low effort" in the past. People can find anything interesting but not everything is a good submission to HN.
Re:Cancer Alley on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @02:49PM (#39032518)
linking random wiki articles with 0 context is extremely common and seemingly accepted on HN. Always confused me as well but /shrug.
Ya if only we could be peaceful like ants!
Tech savvy and privacy-conscious enough to use TOR, but not enough of either of those things to both use a service like 23andMe, and not use password keeper or just be aware that reusing passwords is dangerous. What a strange intersection of users.

Wikipedia is more obnoxious with the begging every time I look at it.

Maybe I'm an idiot but I literally can't navigate your website lol.

I've been looking at options, and while mega seems good they also seem to happily hand over your data to authorities, which means it's not really encrypted, or might as well not be.

I've seen skiff shilled a few times here and on the twitter thread but the website is too annoying for me lol.

Currently thinking I'm going to mess with filen.io tonight. It has a linux client and is e2e encrypted. Still looking and open to suggestions though.

I would like to check it out but I'm physically unable to select any product from the product drop down list... Not the most confidence inspiring thing I've seen.
Just checked my account and this option was on. Turned it off but it's completely unacceptable that it was on in the first place. If anyone has any good alternatives please let me know. Preferably encrypted options.

ya uh... ok

Re:YouTube Begins Blocking Users Who Use Adblock on Friday October 27, 2023 @05:11PM (#38044010)
I've posted this a few times recently, but I used to pay for youtube premium, but it started showing me ads while using chromecast. The third time it happened I cancelled and went back to using ublock. I don't use the chromecast much because the ads are unbearable but I see exactly 0 ads ever on my pc. In short, I block ads because not only is it free, it also actually works. My guess is as soon as(if?) they manage to totally stop ad blockers, they will pull a cable company move and start showing ads to paying users as well. They'll say it's to help creators or something or course.
Re:Tell HN: "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube” on Friday October 06, 2023 @02:38PM (#37794497)
I cancelled YT premium because it would still show me ads while using chromecast sometimes. 100% chance they will start showing ads to premium users if they actually manage to shut down ad blockers. Just like cable TV does. Pay for the service, watch ads half the time anyway.

well now you have lol

Re:I’m not a programmer, and I used AI to build my first bot on Thursday October 05, 2023 @04:28PM (#37783884)
right, the text content was AI generated, and people don't like that. But if any of the tech was AI generated then the author would receive praise.
Re:I’m not a programmer, and I used AI to build my first bot on Thursday October 05, 2023 @04:02PM (#37783570)
Well I never said the article had anything to do with AI art. I have simply noticed a pattern of almost everyone agreeing that AI generated art is bad and harms real artists, while simultaneously agreeing that AI generated code is great and only helps programmers. My post was fairly low effort though I'll give you that. It seems to have pushed a few people's buttons none the less lol.

There's another story on HN posted today about balancing money and meaning and one of the top comments is a sarcastic put-down about the AI generate image at the top of the blog post. If the author had used AI to create the web page they'd almost certainly receive similar praise as the comments on this one. Both AI's are trained on other people's work, yet you seem to think even pointing this out is unfair. Very strange imo.

Re:I’m not a programmer, and I used AI to build my first bot on Thursday October 05, 2023 @03:49PM (#37783416)
Why not? It was trained on other people's work.
Re:I’m not a programmer, and I used AI to build my first bot on Thursday October 05, 2023 @03:27PM (#37783112)
Kinda curious what the author's stance on using AI to create art is.
