Didn't they sign a huge deal with Google a while back to let them train on reddit data? Did they not understand that if their content was in google ai google would send them less traffic?

Re:Show HN: Steal My Bitcoin on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:01PM (#50225807)
Your giving away the exploit though so it's not really only $1. How much is having it actually worth, probably more then that, probably more than $500 too.

There needs to be a HN blockchain edition. There needs to be a HN Uber for X edition. There needs to be a HN SaaS edition.

The conversation will always be dominated by the current most hyped trend. This one does seem more hyped then usual.

I liked this HN post from 2018 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35885982
Re:AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @12:59PM (#50090907)
Why did this disappear off HN feed?
Won't Anthropic or whoever wins just press a button and create the app though?
Re:Mike Tomlin spent 12 years building a Minecraft city on Friday October 02, 2026 @03:38PM (#49937650)
If you watch the video you can really tell - all these tiny details from the various builds are still etched into his mind.

Look - we have entered into a full gambling society. I need to know that every update I do there is a chance candy crush gets installed.
I think he's just suggesting this isn't isolated to the UK and is a trending global issue.
Re:Fixing a Bricked Framework Laptop on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @12:33PM (#49348250)
This was the only point I disagreed with the author on. They used metabase, a tool for their internal employees to manage the business and review their data. It's not some crazy 3rd party marketing tool or something, it's an internal BI tool that had a zero day. More zero days are coming.
I'm not? It drowns out any competition and all we are left with is a single company with a monopoly that speed runs enshitification where consumers lose.
Re:Pam Bondi Implicated in as Much as $5.5M in Insider Trading on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @05:30PM (#49189306)
I guess tangentially related, if you do insider trading but do it poorly is it still a crime? I feel that if the answer is yes then your explanation about how the timing was bad isn't super relevant.
Re:Web security is too hard on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @04:42PM (#49174821)
Last time Coinbase had a breach I wrote in to support chat to see what I needed to do. They said there was no breach. I sent them a link to their own blogpost about it. They responded with "wow this is the fist time I'm hearing about this."
I have a 7S and it still gets updates regularly.
I agree. The last 5 years especially.
Re:Are we offloading too much of our thinking to AI? on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @12:14PM (#48909069)
Not an AI defender but this doesn't sound all that different than before where people were just arguing for their understanding of the issue. No one knows everything and has perfect alignment with reality. I'm with the other guy who responded, test it, else y'all just guessing and arguing who's better at guessing.
Reading a review from Roger Ebert provided a lot of value to me - I knew generally his likes and dislikes and could use that information relationship to contextualize the review. I think reviews break down when you move from individual to aggregates. What does 34% really mean, maybe 90/100 reviewers hate horror, are under 25, all from a specific city? I really don't agree with your take that on reviews but I do think reviews in aggregate - where there is no relationship to the reviewer -- are problematic.
That new salesforce powered heroku status dashboard is a labyrinth of sadness.

Mine literally come from the verified coinbase phone number and say coinbase and everything. If I didn't know for sure they are not calling me I'd think it was real 100%.
Re:Homebrew 6.0.0 on Thursday June 11, 2026 @04:24PM (#48495929)
I'm a total noob in this space but I'm using pacman, paru, yay, shelly. Are those different than "userspace package manager" or are these not relevant because it's Arch?
Re:What was your "Oh Shit" moment with GenAI? on Friday June 05, 2026 @05:04PM (#48418259)
Homeassistant already has tons of integration into power providers and easily let's you pipe in local data if you have it. In addition - can it be a product if anyone can just type what this guy did into an LLM? What's your moat if anyone can just replicate it?
Re:It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12 on Friday May 29, 2026 @02:14PM (#48327086)
Is this totally true? There is advertising, marketing spend and retail shelf space. Surely it's more complex than "solves users problem at price point."
Re:The Death of the Brick and Mortar Toy Store on Friday May 22, 2026 @12:58PM (#48238502)
So how long can you collect $0 of rent on your $5000 building before the bank realizes?
Re:Remove AI Watermarks on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @07:00PM (#48200820)
I think the issue is it was never definitive. This is a great way to show people that.
How useful is pre 2025 data after Valve made such large changes to how skins work? https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/1oe5x07/counter_s...

Did you have to account for this or not really?

Re:AI Slop Is Killing Online Communities on Thursday May 07, 2026 @06:23PM (#48055930)
The fact that reddit enabled hiding your posts is crazy to me. In a time where knowing who's engaging in a community is more important than ever (am I talking to a bot or a troll?) reddit removes even more options to validate.
Re:What Is Copilot Exactly? on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @02:13PM (#47604461)
A 10x engineer who doesn't even know what tools they are using?
I don't understand the workflow of having multiple new bugs everyday that need fixed. Is there bad code being shipped? Are there 1000 devs and it's just this persons' job to fix everyone's bugs? Is this an extremely old and complicated codebase they are improving? Not trying to be snarky - I just don't understand how every day there is new bugs that are just error messages.

If there are new bugs every day that need fixed is the AI really good enough to know the fix from just an error?
