Likely so that stores can be monitored remotely. A lot of supermarkets have a centralized orchestration somewhere, especially big chains.

You're delusional if you think this is what these datacenters are built for. The goal of AI is commercialization, not advancing the human race. Sure, both can be done in parallel, but dont be fooled, immediate money is worth more to stakeholders than advancements with results nobody can turn into money.

Leaders acting like assholes is not an AI phenomena

You cant possibly evoke the same cultural reaction in the modern day. Things are short lived now. Star Trek wouldn't have survived if it came out in 2026.
What's wrong with being a 9-5 coder?

Well this is what people do with AI. Uploading their whole life with no second thought. But surely we can trust big tech, right?
Good point, very well structured argument here

See, ballxpit was a perfect example for me, for uninnovative gameplay, as you just shoot balls and the game mostly plays itself for you. I can see why people like it, I guess its just not for me.

I know the other ones, but they really do not appeal to me, except for maybe balatro.

Might be age and depression for me to be fair. Don't want to talk down on game devs either, a lot of games look good, but ain't for me.

I do enjoy Valheim and Cracktorio. Ark Raiders looks cool, but I hate PvP experiences as I suck at shooters and prefer to avoid online dick measuring contests. Also wouldn't get my friends to play it with me. Gotta check out the Shipbreaker thingy

I fear it'll be a slop market just like the Google Play Store. Yes there are millions of games, none of which are good.
Re:Valve Responds to Developers Fearing AI Slop and Clones on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:30AM (#50274245)
The quality of games became so bad that I sit in front of the steam shop for an hour almost on a daily basis, scrolling through the catalog without finding anything I want to play...

I find myself going back to titles that are over 10 years old over and over again. Every new game I've bought in the recent years I have regretted buying shortly after.

Given I am not a story based gamer, but a gameplay focused one, I just see no true innovation anymore. I mostly play Indie games now, but even those are rarely anything special now. Back to Terraria I guess...

Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:04PM (#50261305)
>The opening premise baffles me. What kind of illusion must one be under to believe that employers would ever pay you the same amount of money to do less work?

Work is about the work written down in your work contract. If you manage to fulfill your contract by doing less, you still worked according to your contract so you should be able to expect the same amount of pay.

If everything of this can be represented in Lean, with enough compute, they are low hanging fruits, yes
So again farming the low hanging fruits for marketing?

Any implications on what could be achieved with this information, for a non academic?

Well, I want to retire and not have to work for another 30+ years, but I guess we do not always get what we want :(
Re:Why I Am a Programmer on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:34AM (#50241268)
That might be true for your stack but I am employed as a Laravel Web Developer and AI can code faster and better than me. Honestly, I have no idea how I am still employed.

I did start learning Rust recently, without using AI at all, and the process of coding is very fun. But I can't help but feel like the farmer who refused to use tractors...

Personally I just wait to be laid off, so I am forced to change things.

Re:Why I Am a Programmer on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:56AM (#50240512)
And the creative, puzzle solving, game like nature of it is now completely gone. Answering architectural questions isn't fun to me. I loved the process of writing code and now I hate being a software developer.
>Exactly. Factories will be built, but you will still need workers, project engineers, and actual architects. Automation is still not there yet, despite the elaborate harnesses of frontier models.

This is what I replied to?

Yall really dont see the issue about replacing workers step by step? We'll reach the point of a "saturated" job market which will cause people to fall into welfare programs. Those are saturated soon as well, so what are people going to do, if they have no food and no help? Doesn't take a genius to see the dystopic near future.

Thinking our governments will solve the issues the AI vendors created ain't going to work.

Well the argument was "we still need workers" so surely there's something to train people for!
I am well aware, people need work, therefor my retrain argument. Unless companies also do not want to train workers, which is a huge issue already.
Given the primary goal and promise of all these AI vendors is to replace workers I think its hilarious that "you still need workers" is an argument. Wouldn't we have an abundance of workers soonish as all the replaced people could be retrained? Or is the truth that these models can't actually replace intellectual work?

Re:Crystal 1.22.0 on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:54AM (#50196262)
Yea but that doesnt help with companies still hiring for language specific roles. Also you gotta be able to check LLM generated code which requires proficiency in the given language.
7.x versions have patches thanks to Mr Sury. Was almost as fast as the patches with official support.
Because its way easier to verify LLM generated code for Laravel over some Rust project. Or do you just vibe it and dont look at code anymore?
Re:What shall I teach my son? on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @02:24AM (#50176775)
Hey Claude, can you have sex with my wife for me? Voila, your wife now has an actual lover. Having sex with your wife can be as obsolete as real intimacy, with the advent of technology.
Re:What shall I teach my son? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:49PM (#50171695)
Reading is a life skill. Proficiency in it makes you understand things. Weren't there plenty of news articles this year about how high schoolers didn't have proficient reading capabilities? Maybe teaching your kids how to properly read a text is a good thing.
