Re:Questions as pot comes to work on Wednesday September 29, 2021 @03:03PM (#28698344)
Medical use of any drug is not "lame" when it's helping someone. I think the phrase you're looking for is "getting inebriated at work for fun is lame".
Re:A Feather in Her Cap on Wednesday May 12, 2021 @12:21PM (#27132067)
Gotta love that absurd capitalist reasoning (which still exits to this day) against banning importing bird feathers.

"Well they're going to die anyway so might as well be us killing them, and please don't take away our money printer"

What a poor article. Lays out the idea that it could be good for you.

Lacks any substantive ideas, other than stop doing things that your brain likes. Okay.

And no references to any research

Indeed mine have anti-snake protection capabilities that also cover items such as nailfiles, pens, and plastic toy springs
Re:Show HN: Easier, Free Webflow on Tuesday May 04, 2021 @04:06PM (#27042254)
Looks great! Love that I can kick the tires without having to signup. Will try it out soon for a project
What I've learned is that sometimes I do wanna spend a bunch of time and tinker so I will take the hard route.

Sometimes I don't want that headache and do the calculus of time & effort and spend the extra $ to get a speaker set that works with my phone :)

Re:Two Years of Squash Merge (2019) on Friday April 30, 2021 @03:28PM (#26998137)
This is exactly how i run my project.

Amazing that folks get into these "two sides" debate. The reality is always a grey area. And you should be flexible enough to see the benefits of the different variations. With some guidelines on how to make a decision.

Re:Yayagram on Thursday April 29, 2021 @04:16PM (#26986158)
Yeah i feel like a new UX idea isn't fully appreciated till many years later when they're widely accepted
Agreed, Miyoko's is the closest to a real soft cheese. Makes sense as they age them to get those fermentation flavors
Re:Flu has disappeared worldwide during the Covid pandemic on Thursday April 29, 2021 @04:01PM (#26985966)
Well eating at home can also have failures. Few months ago I accidentally ate some hot sauce that should have been refrigerated but was stored on a room temp. shelf.

Looked fine when i ate it but was violently sick for 3 days and thought i had covid :(

Re:Next.js 10.2 on Wednesday April 28, 2021 @01:00PM (#26971616)
I've been using Render (build by some Dev Ops engineers from Stripe) https://render.com/

Static hosting is free. Servers or DB's start at $7

I had nearly a perfect Lighthouse score until the marketing team added GTM
Re:Apple TV 4K Gets A12 Bionic on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @02:34PM (#26893678)
That's great news, I'd rather get this than a whole stupid box that basically the same
Re:Apple TV 4K Gets A12 Bionic on Wednesday April 21, 2021 @02:32PM (#26893646)
There's a iOS app that can be used as a remote. Not sure about another physical remote. They're just paired like anything else so I would assume it's possible
Re:Apple TV 4K Gets A12 Bionic on Tuesday April 20, 2021 @01:40PM (#26877832)
We have a house rule that if you use the remote, it stays on the coffee table and then goes back to a spot next to the TV when done. Otherwise the couch eats the remote.

Feels like they could make it chirp like AirPods?

Re:First Flight of the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter [video] on Monday April 19, 2021 @11:28AM (#26863816)
It's probably a video issue, this preview video only has a few frames per second i'm guessing. As we see it pop up and then it's back on the ground
Re:EasyDNS is now accepting Dogecoin for payments on Friday April 16, 2021 @11:51PM (#26841450)
BitPay lets you accept multiple types of crypto coins (doge is one) https://bitpay.com
I wish the government would make some guidelines on what accessibility means for websites. And what types of service need it.

Some of my past clients that have a marketing website for their physical store. But now they are getting emails from scummy lawyers trying to extort money from them for failing to be ADA compliant.

The changes are trivial for me but many people are forced to pay these lawyers to have someone "fix" the problem for them.

Re:Figma and Canva are taking on Adobe and winning on Friday April 09, 2021 @02:09PM (#26753906)
Yeah, I found it strange they didn't even compare XD. Which is the direct competitor to Figma/Sketch.

Also the cost for just XD is similar to that of Figma/Sketch

Free Plan / ~$10 monthly plan

I've only run into one instance where they wanted a real number. (Coinbase) I think sites only block those when there's a reason to.
I've been using a MySudo phone number to use for signups when I'm forced to give out one. Has reduced the noise i get in my messages for my real number

Re:Ask HN: Cheapest/easiest way to host a static site? on Friday March 26, 2021 @07:30PM (#26598244)
Yeah loving their setup. Very Heroku-like. Free for static hosts and almost as cheap as Digital Ocean for servers
I am considering using TinaCMS and noticed this too.

My thought is to use it a separate "preview" branch where it's enabled. After changes are finalized merge the updates into the main branch.

Re:A hacker got all my texts for $16 on Monday March 15, 2021 @11:07PM (#26472483)
Except they'll just punish the "hacker", make a big fuss about it, then the Telco's will donate money to the senator till they drop it.
Re:Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative on Saturday March 13, 2021 @04:22PM (#26450120)
I think it's a smart way to make money with open-source projects. Charge for hosting and premium add-ons. For me Gatsby comes to mind. The framework will always be free but they have a build, CI and hosting platform that makes it easy. And i don't mind paying money for.
Re:RegEx Crossword on Friday March 12, 2021 @05:29PM (#26441750)
The solution: https://www.i-programmer.info/images/stories/News/2014/Dec/B...

Aren't crosswords supposed to spell out a word? This feels like random characters. Unless i'm supposed to rotate it or something?

Re:You can't censor away extremism or any other problem on Friday March 12, 2021 @11:29AM (#26437499)
To me it's like leaving cancer unchecked, and praying it'll go away. Just because you dislike it. There needs to be a point at which we collectively go, nope that's too far. You're done. And we prune back the cancer.

Re:Alamo Drafthouse Files for Bankruptcy on Wednesday March 03, 2021 @01:17PM (#26332331)
One of the strengths of Alamo is that they do showings for indie films and have weekly nights of older films. So cheaper to screen these and they make bank on the food and drinks.

And the biggest part for me is they have ZERO commercials while you're waiting for it to start. They show silly bumpers, youtube clips and internal promos.

Re:An interactive guide to CSS transitions on Friday February 26, 2021 @02:01PM (#26278437)
Josh, been really appreciating the quality of your posts.

Enjoy how you break down what's happening and also throw in some "fun facts" of the reasons why something came to be.

Like the will-transform property, have always used it but didn't realize it came out of people hacking the transform3D property to get GPU acceleration
