100B is roughly NVIDIA’s yearly profit
Why is the atomic version slower? Is it slower on modern x86?

It is criminal that you can’t see different angles for these beautiful cars! 507 with no front view? I need to see the evolution of those kidneys!
We have the technology to cheaply enforce most driving laws. IMO we should do it.
Re:Python type hints may not be not for me in practice on Wednesday November 27, 2024 @08:14AM (#42255818)
> PPS: I think my ideal type hint situation would be if I could create distinct but otherwise unconstrained types for things like function arguments and function returns, have mypy or other typing tools complain when I mixed them

Cleaner/safer function args and return types is a common motivation for dataclass. has benefits over many/complex args besides typing too.

Re:Which Power Plant Does My Electricity Come From? on Sunday November 24, 2024 @08:00AM (#42227714)

Enron basically forced this exact situation in order to charge inflated prices.

Maybe worse is that this isn’t even the reason they ended up in court.

That’s just a job. Might as well get paid while you do that kinda stuff
If someone brought back phabricator i think they’d make easy $
Re:Some Florida cities are living off red light cameras on Monday July 08, 2024 @08:03PM (#40911143)
There should be a camera on every intersection
Wouldn’t the price movement overwhelm the spread if you sell more than a few days after you buy? I guess if spreads were huge it would matter more
Why do high spreads mean more money for middlemen?
Re:Next gen 3D metal printing on Thursday June 27, 2024 @08:42AM (#40809852)
I’d buy some parts if there was a service! Could be a good way to get the word out
The trusty one dimensional model of things. This is why I always train my neural nets with one parameter (sign bit only).
Imo it doesn’t matter at all. Both are fine. Surely there are more pressing things out there to think about!
Idk if this is worth the trouble. Isn’t a judge just going to stamp these requests anyway? Like sure maybe it’s better if they do but probably won’t be groundbreaking
If an exchange goes to AWS, would it suddenly look worse than its competitors? And would that hurt the exchange’s revenue?
I think this is unfortunately very common practice
Re:Boeing CEO Calhoun to step down at end of 2024 on Monday March 25, 2024 @08:59AM (#39815744)
Having the CEO leave doesn’t guarantee safer planes. If anything, I’d want to hear what the company leadership is doing to change production… not necessarily how it’s being reshuffled
Re:Why is it so hard to build an airport? on Friday March 22, 2024 @09:55AM (#39790812)
why not put the terminal in the urban area and have a fast train/ferry/whatever to the runways
Re:Nvidia Unveils Blackwell, Its Next GPU on Wednesday March 20, 2024 @09:41AM (#39766349)
Apu already taken by aviation tho
Perhaps a solution could be requiring them to be paid full wages? Then there is no incentive to hire prison laborers vs others
Re:Don't pass structs bigger than 16 bytes on AMD64 on Saturday January 06, 2024 @02:52AM (#38889428)
1) Maybe you could store the bitwise-or of size and capacity on top of each other. If you restrict capacity to a power of two

2) you could store the capacity before the array payload

This seems completely unsurprising? Subcultures have their own slang, and some of it is spreading? That’s true in French/English/anything
I don’t know for sure, but many companies use old hardware for less intense tasks like being a cpu attached to a massive disk for cold storage
People sometimes leave and take less money. Plenty of other reasons to change jobs.
They’re so rich they could do almost anything and it would “work” — at least in the short term.
Re:Tire Dust Makes Up the Majority of Ocean Microplastics on Sunday October 01, 2023 @12:42PM (#37727773)
If I want to buy a good-for-the environment tire, what should I buy? I don’t care about the price unless it’s insane
They may make other investments as well
This probably sounds different to Brits vs non Brits
