I think parent is trying to say that the number of services that rely themselves on AWS or some of their internal services is enormous and potentially impacts many.
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:48PM (#50321009)
What's the add-ons name?
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:47PM (#50321003)
Is there a list of influencers and a nice way to automatically block them?
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:38PM (#50320952)
I think that most people make little use of the negative feedback options, mainly because they are more clicks away (dark patterns). A addon that gives them a button next to the thums up could help.
Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @06:33PM (#50320921)
Yes please, not sure why this does not exist yet. I would even think that almost all YouTube video links from HN would make a better experience compared to the algo feed.

Untrue, or at least distorted with all the obvious and hidden fossile subsidies.
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:47AM (#50303825)
I thought they now nominate TSIP trump super IP
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:44AM (#50303804)
What I really don't understand is why IPv6 was made so human unfriendly, why not just use 6 three digit blocks? Surely we are not better of now with two parallel IP versions.
Batteries are great but every country still needs generation to charge them up. Some of the big gentailers build very little new generation capacity.
Re:The Tragedy of Losing Your Wikipedia Page on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:13PM (#50280978)
Storage is cheap and I'd rather have an article marked as poor, short, stub but with some reference than no article.
Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Monday October 26, 2026 @02:33AM (#50239883)
I thought these come a little later as they need more time to prepare.
I think parent is trying to say that while it may seem that prices are high underneath the big wave of secondary effects can be seen coming already.
I feel a lot of tv program is shallow and I consider it not worth watching. Same for streaming. I think as LLM make it easy to produce content the internet will see less content that is deep, complex and stimulating.
If it sucks the conclusion is to turn it off for me. Stopped most subscriptions.
I guess the exam is only the step one. Who decides which intern is picked for the next level up?
Re:What shall I teach my son? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:08PM (#50171946)
Compassion, respect for all living things no matter the colour or gender, how to live healthy and physically active, financial literacy. Most of these things have a huge role model part. Don't give him a screen mounted to the stroller.

Remember that while still being unborn the child will get acquainted with you voice and time if voice. Once born he will observe you and how you conduct yourself from very early on; how you treat others, how you swear, how you treat your wife, and nowadays your device pickup habits too.

Re:Linux 7.3 Released on Monday October 19, 2026 @07:50AM (#50151237)
A record breaker on all fronts according to post
China is large and increasingly has the build their transmission capacity to allow them to move electricity around within China.
I assume the ongoing maintenance cost must be very high just by the level of safety and QCQA.
Solar plant consists of thousands of panels. Each panel can have different failure mode and time. They are all monitored and can be replaced on an ongoing basis.

Re:Source code of the Estonian online voting system on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:01PM (#50135088)
You can be a observer in the room when the ballot is counted. So you can monitor if everything was done as intended.

This, and the need for everyday Joe to be able to understand what is done at every step.

Which math, please elaborate.
Re:Why are we even doing all this? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @05:25PM (#50110514)
For many things this is true nowadays. Where I live walking in nature or swimming in the ocean is still free. In Dubai nature as in a green park might raise an entry fee.
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Thursday October 15, 2026 @04:31PM (#50109792)
I would think a random address is random and not static...
Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:55PM (#50096702)
I second the UI updates. What a waste of dev time. Just keep it static, be conservative by default, give options to power users
Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:39PM (#50094853)
Easy way of handling private and work profiles at the same time parallel is a good start.
Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:38PM (#50094825)
Agreed, When working (opposed to privately) I really hate UI changes that seem to happen all the time. UI changes and style in my view are way too much fiddled with because it's easy and visible. The menu structure you came up two releases ago is now crap and needs revision?
