I'm not arguing the comment was uncivil, I'm pointing out the irony that a comment was deemed politically incorrect on a story about the problems of political correctness.
I get the HN crowd thinks very highly of itself, but that doesn't change the irony of these comments!
Yes, mob rules, I get it. But this is exactly the problem with the PC crowd.
I'm pretty disappointed you guys are missing all my jokes. Someone got called out for name calling in a discussion about the problems with political correctness!
That's neat. If it's just a few microamps, I wonder if they could create a mouthguard to remineralize your teeth while you sleep?
SJW's are authoritarian, much like distasteful right-wingers. These people are like a secular version of the Christian Right.
Ultimately Uber is doomed. Being first to market is great for building a brand, but the barrier to entry is so low for this manner of service that eventually they'll succumb to death by a thousand competitors.
I'm really tired of all the internet kids plugging nuclear. The numbers don't work, and the cost of failure is huge. We can put solar on everyone's roof and turbines in windy areas and it's completely safe, dumb nuts simple, and decentralized. Nuclear energy is dead. Let it go.
I'd bet a beer Apple comes out with their own version next year.
I bet Richard Branson did say that.
The salty beer you're referring to is called Gose. It's a salty sour (lemony tart) ale of low alcohol that was brewed in the summertime, starting in the early 16th century. Along with the electrolytes that plants crave, the brewing process and low ph insured it was a pathogen free source of hydration.
Leipziger is the standard bearer, imo; most American versions don't add enough salt.
30% shared parts doesn't sound like a shared platform.
Lutz is right about cost cutting. The Model X is a boondoggle; even Musk admitted they over engineered it, and they should have made the rear doors optional for those who want a roof rack.
A huge benefit of ev's was supposed to be the cost savings in using a single platform with multiple bodies. The Model S already had an all wheel drive platform, so I don't understand why Musk wouldn't take advantage of that with the Model X. IMHO that was a huge, huge mistake that's going to cost shareholders a ton of money.
Pinnipeds are smart like dogs. Dolphins are smart like primates.
Patents are one of many market controls that keep capitalism from destroying itself. They are, of course, abused like many things.
I just moved out of a place I'd lived for 5 years that turned out to have black mold. I've had weird digestive issues and my immune system has gone to shit since living there but I wasn't aware of the mold problem and didn't know of the health problems it could cause. So this study is pretty terrifying; I should probably get tested.
If you look up his father's history, it's pretty clear that this entire "controversy" was likely manufactured at the kid's expense.
Considering we have a serious homeless and housing problem in the Bay Area and wages outside of tech aren't keeping up with the cost of living I'm not going to feel sad for this guy. Respect the thrifty, but sad? No fuckin way.
It should be noted, from the dates of these policy papers, that they are only a year old.
I'd like to see Facebook investigated for antitrust violations. If Google can be investigated, Facebook should be more so.
China has little rule of law; I have zero confidence this will be enforceable, but it's better than nothing.
I agree, but I'm not sure we can afford to wait ~5+ years for self driving cars; on the other hand that's probably how long it'll take to build more subways, at a minimum. Whatever is done it needs to be done immediately.
Step 1. Release autonomous cars to market with lower incidence rate than humans.
Step 2. Sit back and watch humans cause accidents; insurance for human drivers goes thru the roof.
Step 3. ???
Step 4. Skynet.
Yes it was premium hardware; I believe it would have been successful as an Android phone.
My wife actually liked the gimmicky 3D. Go figure.
The problem with the Fire Phone isn't the hardware, the hardware is great, the problem is Fire OS. No one wants a half baked Android fork and a walled garden. My wife purchased the Fire Phone during their last promotion, and within 15 minutes she was reflashing to CyanogenMod.
The phone would have been successful if they had simply run stock Android, preloaded their own bloatware like Samsung does, and perhaps a dedicated button for Firefly, which is a pretty neat app. The reason the Fire Phone failed was Bezos is an egotistical asshole who doesn't care what the customer wants.
