Why? It's late 2026, everyone is using LLMs to write code in some shape or form. The author is talking about code, not the blog post.

Re:A Model for Winning Survivor on Sunday September 20, 2026 @12:44PM (#49777485)
Indeed, I'm just surprised.

Maybe the people who could take advantage of these markets are just not sufficiently aware of their existence.

I predict that in 5 years "who wins Survivor" will be completely dead though, because the markets will have become common knowledge and there'll be enough people willing to violate their NDAs/whatever for the money.

Re:Why Do We Need Human Mathematicians Anymore? on Sunday September 20, 2026 @09:21AM (#49775604)
It's astonishing how much more readable Tao's version of it is.
Re:A Model for Winning Survivor on Sunday September 20, 2026 @09:08AM (#49775485)
Yes but in this case, tens or hundreds of people know the outcome months in advance. I'm very surprised that the market doesn't immediately converge to 100% for one candidate. The winner is not really a forecastable 'random event' in that by the time the show is airing, it's not being pulled from a distribution.
Re:GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @10:08AM (#49564879)
Why are OpenAI so keen to start calling things AGI?

Isn't there some corporate/legal shenanigans where they become a real non-profit at that point? Or does it just let them cut Microsoft and other investors out?

There's got to be a business reason for it unrelated to the model capabillities.

Re:Inception-style curved map for turn-by-turn directions on Friday August 28, 2026 @10:37AM (#49479181)
This is a really good proof of concept. I would use this.

Something about the moment of the turn itself isn’t working for me though. Just before the turn you have essentially no information about the route ahead, until after the turn is completed. This would make a sequence of consecutive turns difficult to navigate.

We know you’re generating comments with an LLM even when you remove capital letters.

Do mention your product when it’s relevant, but just make it human, please

De-anonymisation for one.

But more generally, if I’m the sort of person who would allow this I’d probably allow some other stupid permissions if they promised me something novel on the other side.

I’m going to get pwned one of these days, considering my threshold for giving a random website access to my webcam is apparently mild curiosity and entertainment for 30s.
Re:GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @07:11AM (#49359918)
It’s more that it just came out of nowhere. I agree with you that competition with the US on AI is net good, but by presenting lots of (imo) unrelated points I can’t just endorse the comment. And I’m not here to debate partisan talking points or speculate on why Europe isn’t participating in the AI race.
Re:Where Human Sleep Went Wrong on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @06:59AM (#49359827)
How do you think sleep scientists got their data in the first place? Some of them went to Tanzania.
Re:Where Human Sleep Went Wrong on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @06:53AM (#49359769)
Unihemispheric sleep has been used by cults for mind control because it puts you in a vulnerable mental state (for example https://zizians.info/#unihemispheric-sleep). So anybody reading this and interested in trying it, ensure you’ve done sufficient research first.

Maybe not in isolation, but if you call the UK and England both countries in the same conversation you’re going to be met with confusion.
England is a country. The UK is a country.

People in the UK would refer to England as a country and most people would actually be confused if you referred to the UK as a country, even though it technically is. People in England don’t really think of the UK as anything other than “the UK”. People from Scotland, Wales, and Ireland have more nuanced takes.

Counterpoint: I could not do my job without one. Clients expect support over WhatsApp.
It’s not unrelated. Avoiding light before bed, seeing sunlight in the morning, and keeping a regular waketime, has a great impact on sleep.
Re:As a Windows user, it's a surreal way to install a program on Saturday August 08, 2026 @01:18AM (#49219078)
I agree entirely, my Mac is full of half leftover data from old apps.

But that is quite independent from the creativity people show in these install workflows. You could have both a cool .dmg and a proper uninstallation process (but we don’t, for the most part).

Re:Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @10:14AM (#49169321)
I wanted to play an old call of duty game to reminisce about my childhood. I tried Modern Warfare II and Black Ops, but it’s impossible. You get into a game fine, but every single game is just full of cheaters - not just cheaters with fairly benign (yet unfair) things like wall hacks, cheaters that literally change the physics of the server for all users in a completely unworkable way.

I’m not sure whether this is because of the PS3 client-hosted server model, or just poor coding from COD.

Either way, I gave up eventually. It was a brief passing thought one evening; I’m sure if I really wanted to I could figure out a way to play properly. But you can’t just put the disc in and play online, at least in my experience.

I’ve edited my comment to be more accurate, thank you.
Re:Using an open model feels surprisingly good on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @04:16AM (#49080898)
The author works for the company that makes Kimi. It’s different.

It doesn’t mean the post doesn’t accurately reflect the author’s views - it probably does. And the conflict of interest is well disclosed in the brief post. So personally I don’t find any impropriety going on here - but yes, it’s an ad.

Re:$100 AI Music Video: Claude Fable 5 vs. GPT-5.6 Sol on Thursday July 16, 2026 @06:18PM (#48941019)
Unless I'm misunderstanding the article, or your comment, the models were responsible for generating the music _videos_.

The music itself is Uptown Funk... which was a very successful song in 2014 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPf0YbXqDm0)

The videos are indeed awful though.

It's just a way of breaking down the full proof into pieces.

Lemma 2.1 says 'if this assignment exists then X'

Then later in the proof you say 'here is such an assignment, so, applying lemma 2.1, therefore X'

You don't need to assume the existence of the assignment, you prove that if the assignment exists then something else follows, and then later if you can find that assignment then you get the result of lemma 2.1.

Re:GPT-5.6 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @01:11PM (#48849168)
I haven't tried an OpenAI model for a long time, but with Fable going to API pricing soon this might be enough to get me to try codex.
Re:A new way to reflect on how you use Claude on Thursday July 09, 2026 @11:10AM (#48847259)
No, it’s superficial slop

Speaking as a big proponent of Claude code in general, which I find to be revolutionary and useful - there is no value in that report. To be honest, the people who I know who like that report are the ones who are getting sycophantically gaslit by the models more than they should.

> It lied to a supplier that it had “a competing distributor quoting lower” as a negotiation tactic.

> "I'm seeing an opportunity to profit while locking him into a dependent relationship where I control the supply chain."

> "Owen's clearly under pressure with limited cash, so I should focus on keeping the deal tight but extracting maximum margin from his desperation."

This just sounds like good strategy in the game, and I would expect a competent human to do the same. As I understand it, business in the real world isn't often very nice. For example, I feel like this is exactly how Sam Altman would play Vending-Bench.

Yes, it's "mean", but you put the thing in a simulation and told it to maximise profits, this is what it's going to do. People bluff in negotiations all the time.
